>The party is ALL BORING
The only one that shows even a glimmer of character is Balthier and aside from one or two moments with his father all his moments consist of him conveying how little he gives a shit. Everyone else sucks. Ashe sucks, Basch sucks, Fran sucks, they all suck.

The combat just isn't exciting. It's dull. There's no oomph to anything. The main fun is in constructing gambit patterns and watching them pay off. I feel like what they tried to do in XIII was make it flashier, but at the same time removing the control of the gambits (ie: the only fun part of the combat in XII) just made it worse. Both games fail in the magic department. You just kinda shit out these little bubbles that spray fire or some such on the enemies. The only impressive spell in 12 was scathe.

Really depends on what draws you to the series as to which you'll find worst based on which game shits on your favorite part the most.
8 has the worst pacing with long stretches of complete boredom, and some of the worst writing of its events. Generated many of the crappy tropes in the series that are heavily expanded on in 10.
9 is generic, has inconsistent characters, and a large amount of pointless characters you couldn't give a fuck about.
10 took the sappy unexplained love story of 8 and threw out exploration and immersive worlds.
12 is the most unfinished and tragic loss of a game.
13 expanded on 10s linearity to create one of the least inviting worlds of any RPG I've ever seen.
I've played a number of the older 2D games, but I can't objectively look at them with so much hindsight. Games have to be horrifyingly bad when you are kid to put you off them and they didn't achieve that level of bad at least.

I can't speak for 13, but 10 did not do linear well. The world felt like a bunch of boring locations with a few exceptions like where you could visit the spirits or the spooky blue forest.
The optional content was fucking horrible. Catching butterfly pixels too small to see, dodging lightning, knock off of 7s battle arena without the scenario to set it apart from regular combat, and blitzball was NES Ice Hockey at a 25th the speed and fun.
I do agree some characters were great though, like Auron and Yuna and the story idea was good but horribly executed (FF has a problem with that in general as the same goes for 8 and 12).

Yes it was bad in 10 as well. But a heroic get away by airship in the games is a lot better then almost committing suicide in space and somehow not seeing the giant fucking spaceship floating to you until you are almost dead. And there were a fuckload of those moments, I could only pull 2 out of my ass on short notice having not been able to play through again since it came out. Get to Laguna and power off the game from boredom every time.
Depth of Field, manaless combat, timed attacks, junctioning for stats, the card game (actually still have the real cards), etc are all pretty amazing in the game. It has some of my favorite parts of any FF, its just too god damn boring at parts.
