Capturing wasn't too bad, but it would be nice to have more than just a chance of the monster becoming interested in joining you. Far as I recall, DQ8 at least had two ways to entice a monster to your side.
As for the emotions, it just needs fleshing out. While nothing as time consuming as the brushing stuff in Pokémon, it would be cool to have challenges that if you choose to fulfill, the mons will trust you more and be stronger
