I didn't parry a single thing throughout the whole game, didn't even use a shield, and this boss was hard as fuck until I realized you can kill him in like 4 parries.

Great Combustion infinite stunlocks him if you land one hit.
Any Soulmass move breaks him since he dodges before it goes off.
Parrys destroy him.
Fire resistance is really good, too (Black Iron armor, Flame Stoneplate ring, etc...)
If I remember correctly fire actually does good damage against him (which doesn't make sense).

When I got to him I had been using a shield for my entire playthrough, but for some reason I decided to two hand my weapon and I killed him. His attacks are very easy to roll.
I didn't parry once and killed him on my second attempt, no problems whatsoever. Just with my Man-serpent Greatsword.

Pinwheel. If you fight him at the level you should genuinely fight him at (like 20 or something) he is basically mini 4 kings with more projectiles.
You can cheese his pathfinding a bit by using the stalagmites.
Its the only way to heal safely.

Except no matter what level you do end up fighting him at, the actual catacombs are like 2 times as hard as the boss itself so if you actually are good enough to get to him at the proper level he will still be effortless.

I either over or under think it. I thought that trying to hit the weapon with the shield was a way of doing it, but half the time I miss the parry window entirely, it slices through my shield and deals damage to me.
It does not give me reliable visual feedback and confuses me to shit. But I can do it 1/4th of the time.

I recommend the Black Knight Great Shield. IT only requires 16 str and it has 90% fire resist so you can sit there and eat attacks all day long while you block and learn his pattern.
I like to wait until he does a sword combo. That way you can absorb one attack with your shield, and parry the second swing.

Both are literally the exact same boss if you use the environment. There's a portion of the lurker area where he can't physically cross so you can cheese with magic, also with Gwyn you can great/black combustion him for huge damage while using the pillars as defense.

Great/regular combustion forces him to constantly dodge, and because you can cast it faster than he can recover you'll kill him before he has a chance to hit you.
