This is among the best cRPGs yet rather unknown so I want to talk about it, last time we had a very civil and enjoyable discussion about it.
Most interesting playthroughs? Best music? Best spell? Best tech? Best dialogue? Best NPC?

After God-know how many playthroughs I've settled for absolutely normal melee fighter without any special toys or regard toward magic or technology. There is something oddly satisfying when you can just slice open all those powerful mages and gun-totting engineers, while often taking benefit of both worlds.

But this reminds me something truly amazing. Back in the days... I guess it was '05... or maybe '06? Doesn't matter. Anyway. I was talking with friend of mine about good RPGs and games in general. And I've pointed out Arcanum. He instantly started laughting - a huge RPG nerd laughing about the game - commenting how he was instantly thrown away by the absolutely awful graphics and idiotic, cubic design of starting location.
Week later we met again and he almost crushed me hugging, saying how the game is fucking epic, even if the mountainous locations look like shit.

I remember how each playthrough bows were absolutely shit-tier weapons... and then I've decided to give a try to the pyrotechnic one.

I was such a dumb kid back then. I didn't even realise the game had a turn-based mode until I reached the void.

I honestly couldn't get into BG 1-2. But I gave Arcanum a try and holy shit was it a blast. Great intriguing quests and story dialogues. I had to make notes to myself in real life about quests in order to stay organized.
Also first time I got to those Golems, I died. But they easily go down with some fast as fuck character that attacks 3 times while they attack 1 once like my badass did.

You can literally finish the game by just spamming Harm
I just got past the bridge brigands in Shrouded hills blowing up the gate with dynamite.
How to do it without having to fight :
>Go behind both ogres without aggroing them
>Make them face another direction
>Go in prowling mode in front of the gate
>Drop dynamite on the ground
>Move away (normally ogres aren't hostile)
>Dynamite blows the gate open, usually kills one ogre but doesn't aggro brigands
Very neat. I think there's like 10 different ways to get past.

I never got into the BG1/2 games, but Arcanum has been my favorite RPG since I was 11.

Why exactly is the fucking dog so good at combat besides insane attack speed?
Like, does its hp even scale? Does it level up? I remember it steamrolled a lot of enemies but why does it even work?

His level-up template is made to go full Dodge and Melee + Strength and Dex only, and I believe he even gets apprentice+expert training in both of those and that's why he becomes so powerful.
I think he can even become master but I can't remember, I know he definitely gets to expert somehow.
I should go back and finish the game with a tech build. Building stuff with stuff out of garbage cans was great. I just wish guns didn't involve burning all your ammo for MISS MISS MISS MISS MISS.Are you blind? What in god's na- I mean better luck next time.
To this day, Arcanum has some of the most fantastic sound design in any RPG I have ever played, literally everything in that game sounds amazing, from ambient noises, music, voice acting and especially magic.

He gains fucking MASTER melee around level 20. Not just 5 ranks in melee - master title. And since it's a dog, all it can spend points on Dex and Str and nothing else.
Besides, his damage scale slightly with his level.

Yes, it's called Follower Editor. I think it can be found on terra-arcanum website under downloads.
It makes the game much more enjoyable to play. Jayna Stiles became my favorite follower with the editor. I made her the traveling inventor of the group. She crafts everything I need but I let her wait outside when going to a dungeon as she sucked at combat.
I love Arcanum but it's such a broken ass game.

one of my favorite games, i nearly cry every time i re open the game. i dont even know why.
Arcanum is fucking great. Didn't finish the game first time around so I made a new save with a grenadier. Holy fuck it's fun to wipe out hordes of enemies with few nades.
