I don't think it's just an excuse, more like most of us have no idea about the minutiae about impractical armour, the little niggling bits on the elbows and knees that would make it hard to move, etc. The point is that armour that's covering the body is intended to look like armour that serves its purpose as protecting the character, and the impracticality of fridge designs is usually centred around the unrealistic weight or sectioning, but that's part of armour that's supposed to look like and act like armour, while the tittybait pseudoarmour is impractical even within the fantasy world of the fame because it doesn't even do the basic job of physically shielding the body, and the intent of these designs is clearly about showing tits n' ass first, and not really armour at all. The fix for the former "impractical" designs is minor changes relating to allowing the character to move by freeing joints and making sure pointy bits don't stab the character when they lean or bend, whereas the fix for the latter "impractical" designs, ie the titty windows, is always going to be first and foremost to change the armour so it even serves its basic function of coverage, before anybody's even worried about technical correctness on a smaller level of detail. The main thing I don't understand is why people consider sexuality childish. I was basically following you right up until that part. The human form is aesthetically pleasing and to act like sexiness is crude or superficial is, in my opinion, even more childish. For me, I basically appreciate all forms of character expression because I think it all has a place.
