Quake 4 was a sci-fi caricature of brutal and gory, it fitted the game perfectly, but it's so over the top that it's kind of hard to take seriously.
But the shit depicted in Kane and Lynch was just fucked on a very basic human level that is far easier to relate to.
Same with Manhunt.

I personally enjoyed the combat in the Mass Effect series once I figured out all the powers and how they interacted with various enemy types, etc etc.
Of course the combat really hit it's stride in ME3.

I'm not him, I'm 25 and I didn't know shit about Quake 4. Even if I played countless hours of Quake 3 on Dreamcast.
Maybe the game is not that well known for that shit as I literally never seen or heard anything about that particular scene.

The only scary thing that motherfucked me as a kid was in 2 when the tyrant forces his like..snake baby into the police chiefs throat.
Gore and such does very little to me, but any form of like impregnantion, bloating, inflation or any gurgling sounds really fucks with me on a visceral level.
Also Dead Space has incredible death scenes, shame I never really died.
