Sonic Generations got on my nerves.
I don't like the modern gameplay at all and the classic gameplay's physics and level design felt nothing like the older games. If I didn't buy it for a couple bucks on sale I'd probably have gotten a refund.

Optimistically, they're holding off on announcing it in order to not get overwhelmed by hype (see Twilight Princess) which would inevitably die before release day if they announced it now.
Pessimistically, they don't have it ready for announcing yet, and they're going to have to rush development to get it out before the year's end, just like they did 10 years ago.

Agreed. Pontac and Graff have long since worn out their welcome. Maybe if Archie goes belly-up financially due to the Worlds Unite licenses (or Penders' antics gets Sega to pull the plug on the Sonic comic), they could hire Ian Flynn to write for the game universe.
