If you ignore your boner for Kei Shigema for a second and if you ever played D2 in the first place you will know it's a very experimental game, and a lot of the mechanics it introduces just didn't work very well, and were dropped since then.
Characterization-wise is also pretty awful, and the game is super short.
Also, the Lunar series is the definition of mediocrity.(wait no, that would be GS, but Lunar series is still really mediocre)

I enjoy the Tales series, but I've only played a couple of them.
Started off with the PS1 version of Destiny, then Destiny 2, took a few years off it, then played PS3 Vesperia.If you're looking for a Destiny 2fag, I suppose I can fit in there. Destiny 2 was my favorite out of those three that I played.

I admit Grandia III was the weakest of the games (excluding that abomination Lunar Dragon Song of course) but playing the game you can definitely tell the heart and soul of the series was still there. Shigema himself admitted in an interview he was also disappointed by the end result and the reason why it turned out the way it did was cause it was rushed.

I love the Lunar duology as well, but its the fact that the man made FOUR brilliant JRPGs instead of just 2 as to why I consider him the god of the industry.

OP is the only one praising two games with extremely bare-bones gameplay and mediocre story/characters, other that was pretty much a guinea pig to test battle mechanics for future Tales games and with one of the most insufferable hero/heroine pairs in the series, and a game that's actually good.(Grandia, and that probably has more to do with other people involved than Kei Shigema because as we just saw his JRPG resume is really terrible.)

I liked Legend of Dragoon
Sure it was painfully easy, and had one of the worst localizations out there ("I'll get you, silly guy!"), but the combat system had a few interesting ideas, the area design was varied and interesting, had a decent soundtrack, and despite the generic cast it managed to have a lot of stand out, memorable moments

It's all real-time. However, they do have little nuances that make them different.
Destiny has the Swordian and Disk system, which give your swordian users different spells.
Eternia has the Cramel Fringe system which gives your spell casters different spells
Symphonia has the Unison Attack system which allows you to perform various combination attacks.
Abyss brought an Overlimit meter (before in Symphonia, OL was random for the most part), Mystic Artes (which technically were in Symphonia but only 3 characters had them and they had very specific conditions or were completely random), and the Fonon system which allowed you to use a field of Fonons to turn your standard artes into more powerful attacks.
Rebirth brings a more strategic element to the series with the grid system which allows you to flank your enemies. But likewise, if you're not careful they can do the same to use.
Innocence brings weapon customization as well as different styles, but overall felt clunky in terms of it's combat and I ended up dropping it because of this fact.
I haven't play Vesperia, Xillia 1 or 2, Graces, or Zesteria.
Hearts R brings the Soma system which allows your characters to learn artes and obtain weapons.
