Friendly reminder that all 6 children had weapons and the monsters of the underground fear them and only accept you in most cases because they don't know you're human. The other fallen children almost certainly killed at least one monster each, most likely far more, making Asgore entirely within his right to dispense justice for his people. Even should a child reach Asgore as a pacifist, they still can't leave without at least one boss monster soul - Asgore's only alternative, if the child is determined enough to leave, is to fight them, or offer up his wife as a sacrifice.

Capture, actually. And, as mentioned above, the human literally cannot leave without killing a boss monster. Therefore expediting the battle with Asgore minimizes the risk to the Underground's citizens and allows the child a chance to claim his soul. The suicide ending shows that Asgore is entirely willing to part with his soul to allow a child to pass the barrier, but cannot in good conscience simply roll over and die.

The entire point of the first war, and the genocide route, is that monsters are fucked if humans decide to wipe them out. Sure a monster with seven humans souls is slightly stronger than the seven wizards who laid the seal, but what are they going to do when the humans gather eight wizards to form a new seal, then throw one unusually determined small child at the monster horde? What are they going to do when the humans gather eighteen blokes with baseball bats?

Like, the second I gave it the umbrella and the music box began, I just had this welling in my heart. It was this sense of...connection, I guess, to this statue. This statue must've sat under the dripping water for a long, long time, passed by and forgotten. And then you give it the umbrella. The smallest, simplest act of kindness. The first part of Asgore's plan is unavoidable. He has to wait for someone to come to him to get one soul. That first kid had it rough.
But it is incredibly cruel to both the monsters and the children to stay there and hope for 6 more. With one soul Asgore could have left the underground and, if he truly cared about punishing humanity and taking his revenge, he'd have annihilated the human village that killed Asriel, and then returned and freed the monsters.
