Had it for a year (3570k + 970) and the only relatively graphically intensive games that I've played are Dark Souls 1 + 2, Warframe, MGR, DE:HR, Bioshock Infinite, emulated PM/Melee and Emulated Xenoblade, maybe the new release of DMC4 if that counts as well.
I sometimes feel like it was a waste building this thing, but I still love it.

Already done.
For a bit I was thinking about getting a 1440p monitor, then AMD came out with VSR, so I have no reason to.
Surprised how well my GPU can handle 1440p.
60 FPS in GTA V on very high, 60 FPS in Titanfall on max with 2x MSAA, 60 FPS in Killing Floor 2 on ultra (with SSAO instead of HBAO), I even get decent performance in FO4.
I've also got a WiiU with Smash, Splatoon, MK8, and Bayo 2 coming in next week.
This is gonna be a fun Christmas.

My PC has been at home in a closet for the past year.

I'm going home for Christmas later this months and want to transport it back to my apartment since I have a permanent residence now and won't be moving around for a bit.

Assuming it still runs after I take it out and dust it off, what's the best and safest way to transport my desktop and monitor across the country?

Taking it apart and shipping it with insurance? Or leaving it together and shipping it? Or taking it back myself on a plane in a checked bag disassembled?

Has anyone moved/shipped a desktop before?

I have another idea too. I put it together and have the invoice for the parts so if I shipped it I could insure it for the cost of the parts then give it to FedEx and ship it so if (when) it breaks en-route I can put together a brand new PC with insurance money.

What do?

It's not wasting though...

The estimates for ssd life span are ten years IF you're constantly writing and rewriting to them. For 99% of people it's longer than 10 years.

And Even if it weren't only 10 years... By the time that decade has passed, newer, faster storage will already be it and we'll all have moved to that.

What's /v/'s opinion of this build?

I haven't upgraded my pc in a long time, so I'm considering that build since it should be future proof for a while
>>
>>318664395
I might try it, next case is going to be a micro build and most have outside mounts for "liquid cooling" but a cheap closed loop like this looks sufficient.

I have the 400r which is just the nearly-identical predecessor. These cases are perfect for first time builders because they're so roomy and easy to position everything.

For my next build, I'll be avoiding full tower cases though. There just so big.

But the white LEDs do look nice. I leave them off most of the time though.
>>
>>318665165

Any reason why 3 is the danger zone but 4 is ok?

>>318665172

I don't understand, what's wrong with the H440? It looks nice, has a good interior and it's a decent price.

Good. But i've been wondering if i should get more RAM, maybe 2x8GB? I don't really know.

Bought the 970 this summer, sold my old 760 to a friend for about 70 bucks and a copy of Witcher 3 to boot. I got Arkham Knight with the 970, never installed it and probably not gonna.

Looking forward to christmas, the thought of playing Fallout 4, Monkey Island and Red Orchestra 2 fills me with feelings of comfiness.

Dude, i got mine velcro'd to the front panel of my case, you'll be fine. Just make sure the cables won't get bent.

I think the small size of the SSD's are what attract me most about them, besides the speed of course, since you can stack them into pretty much any open spots in your case, as long it's not gonna be pressured by anything heavy.

It's currently in the "I got no money and a toaster laptop to browse but goddamn I do hope that I can save up enough in a few months for a decent rig to play all the nice shit that's been out for the past few tears" stage. Just looking out for what components would make a good enough rig to last for at least a few years but without bankrupting my ass while also keeping track of general prices of PC parts and dreaming of the day when I'll actually get around to buying them.

Also, hoping that the 970 goes down in price over the next few months because fuck getting anything with 2 gigs VRAM or less since that shit's becoming the minimum spec nowadays.

Generally quieter/can cool things to a lower temp.

However, it's actually less effective than an air cooler for overclocking, since the liquid doesn't move as fast as air.

It's mostly a meme for consumer whores. You should only water cool if you're overclocking like crazy or are using some tiny/weird case with bad airflow.

Also, premade closed loop coolers suck. Only build your own loop. A mid-tier air cooler will outperform an expensive close loop cooler.

>>
>>318666512
Its that or the RM750, which I haven't had a problem with in the past and is currently like $70. Either way the intention is to build custom cables if I were to ever actually recommend anybody this build, as that is something I do for side cash.

Its probably just autism, but I don't particularly like it when somebody recommends something so far out of the ordinary for large mark up prices instead of matching price/performance and added addition of aesthetics.
