If I kill the Railroad and subsequently Deacon will I be able to keep his perk? Or does his perk get taken away when he dies? The Commonwealth belongs to the Minutemen. Without the institute around the Brotherhood and Railroad have no reason to exist here.

I started a new game with a melee character a week ago, but haven't touched the game for days. I liked melee at first, but it got really boring after a while and feels somewhat overpowered with all the perks. Then again, everything's overpowered towards the end.

My favorite companion is tough. It's a tie between Curie and Danse for different reasons. I love Curie's innocent demeanor and french accent, she's just a joy to cart around. Danse on the other hand is a hilarious asshole. Everything he says is just so stoic and bigoted that he cracks me up. That being said, Lone Wanderer + Dogmeat is the superior gameplay choice, fuck companions.
My favorite weapon is one I created myself, but if we're talking static weapons Overseer's Guardian just for how useful it is. For fun I like modded Missile Launchers with Targeting mod and the experimental MIRV mod for Fat men.

Yes, but it takes so many action points to use. A sneak attack is more than enough damage to one shot 9/10 mobs with a maxed out swatter. Ninja + blitz is an insanely good combo, and blitz in general is good enough to stand on its own. Add in some luck skills and vats is really good for melee. With 9 agility I can swing my swatter 7 times in vats (almost 8) but can only swing the super sledge 3 times.

To each their own, but I've only had a problem with stealthing real early game. Once you get some perks rolling I find it's actually easier to get sneak attack kills with melee weapons than it is with guns when not outdoors

the institute: if you start doing the institute quests you see that they are a bit directionless, their main mission is of course, as they claim, to fix the world and the bioscience division is making some progress (the crops you see above ground are made by the institute and they are further experimenting on food, energy and production in general)
but they lack cohesion, even before fathers death, you can see the head of robotics division having an argument with the head of the srb division, because apparently the latter sent coursers to search the formers offices and labs
the same thing happens when you are declared fathers heir, one division immediately locks themselves in and threatens to starve the rest of the institute, something similar happened with Virgil and the fev experiments, he was unhappy with the whole thing but instead of some internal process of reconciliation all he could do is sabotage the whole thing and run the fuck off, you can see some scientists arguing with one another over the nature of synths, over correct methodology

basically, the institute is not a cohesive, unified faction, its a bunch of semi-rival departments who only share some nebulous goal to help mankind, but dont actually cooperate much or like another

I have been trying to find a decent answer too this (not sure if there is one) but why are all the factions so dead set on completely blowing up the institute rather than just killing/improsoning/recruiting all the people and synths inside and take over their facilities as a main base. Seems like an awful wase of good technology, which makes even less sense for the brotherhood to blow up.

You can't "showlooksmenu" curie straight from the game
The game stores 3 models of her character. I think one's the robot, one's the current version with her current gear, and one is her base model with the flannel shirt she starts in as a synth but I might be wrong. The base model is the one you want.
You have to spawn the base model into the game by typing "find curie 4" then "player.placeatme XXXXXX" each of the ID numbers it provides you with until it spawns the one in the base flannel shirt. Then you "showlooksmenu" THAT Curie to look however you want, then when you're done, "showlooksmenu" the original Curie you've been playing the game with and keep making identical changes until her model updates to match the base Curie. Then you can just "disable" all of the fake Curies.
This might change how she looks in multiple playthroughs since you're editing the base model but I'm not sure on that.

Strength gives you slightly more melee damage and carry weight.
Perception gives you slightly more VATS accuracy.
Endurance gives you slightly more health and sprint time
Intelligence gives you slightly more exp
Agility gives you slightly more AP and better sneaking.
Luck gives you slightly more crits.
Caps are probably the least important thing in the game, and having 1 more settler from getting Charisma past the max isn't going to skyrocket your adhesive production.
