What's the shittiest plot twist you ever witnessed in video games?
It was a dream
Liquid possessing Ocelot via his arm but then it turning out to just be Ocelot pretending is literally the worst thing ever written
>>318488574
The possession in MGS2 did happen. It's explained by making Ocelot's father The Sorrow. After psychotherapy, Ocelot has the arm removed and replaced by a prosthetic arm as seen in MGS4.
>>318488574
In all fairness he genuinely believed he was Liquid.
>>318488710
Mine too. Maybe someday I'll find someone to love. Maybe.
At th3 end of true crime:streets of LA, which is a game about being a detective solving crimes on the streets of LA, you infiltrate a bdsm club that is used by local organized crime figures (this is the very last mission in the game). While in the club, you fall in a basement that is filled with vampires or zombies or something. You go deeper into this basement and accidentally wind up in hell, and the last boss is one of stans lieutenants, baphomet or something.
To recap: 99% of game is you chasing mobsters and arresting kidnappers with no supernatural elements at all. Last 1% of game is fighting undead monsters and a demon lord. I still don't know what the fuck possessed someone to make that plot decision. I will never not be mad about this.
>>318488930
What the fucking hell
>>318488574
>I was only merely pretending to be retarded
>>318488930
>>318489320
i uhhh, dont remember it ending that way at all
are you sure you was playing streets of la?
I think it was "Inversion" (bland 3rd person shooter) who's plot was basically
I MUST FIND MUH DAUGHTER
>be best buddy helping to find daughter
WE KILLED SO MANY AND DID STUPID SHIT, BUT WHERE'S MUH DAUGHTER
>be best buddy and never tell him that the first corpse in the game was his daughter's
Two lesbians double digivolving to ultimate to save the entire world was pretty fucking stupid in FFXIII.
>>318490674
I think the term "right out of my asshole" explains a majority of this game's plot.
>>318490003
Oh dear
>>318488574
Fucking this. It was just retarded. Even worse, it laid the foundation that you wouldn't care if Venom Snake turned out to be a time-traveling Old Snake or some shit like that because the series was already retarded at that point.
>>318490804
>yfw Vanilla's weapon was actually a high tech fishing rod
>>318488480
Arkham Knight's Jason Todd- it would have been passable as a plot device but they tried to play that off as the central twist, with all the buildup for something most of the audience already knew. They had to know their audience- but maybe I'm giving the audience too much of the benefit of the doubt.
>>318488551
I have never seen this work well, only as variations and in respect to other endings does this type of ending work somewhat. So like in Bastion, because the reversal is a choice compared to just going on- it's there for contrast. Bloodborne also has this as one of it's endings, right? I don't know how that works.
>>318490674
>>318490804
They really had an opportunity to make something of Vanille, her whole subplot had some really good points with the whole guilt angle and trying to play off as this perky type. Wish they could hire a better writer. Hell why on earth don't they- not asking for some uppity class shit just give us some characters that aren't one note babbling idiots.
>>318491160
>Bloodborne also has this as one of it's endings
All of the endings was "just a dream," but it wasn't a secret. The endings decided what the Hunter would do with the dream.
everything about Asriel in Undertale
>>318491342
"Dreams" in Bloodborne are like alternate realities or something, I don't entirely understand it myself but that's what I heard.
>>318488930
>At th3 end of true crime:streets of LA
>To recap: 99% of game is you chasing mobsters and arresting kidnappers with no supernatural elements at all. Last 1% of game is fighting undead monsters and a demon lo
It was not the end, it was like 70% of the game. The game was hardly very serious in tone either, so ancient chinise crimelord (nothing satan related) fit the overall vibe of old chinise kung fu movie. There were also KGB agents and North Korean generals in this game, it was really over the top.
>>318491481
"unimaginative" twist aren't what I'd call shitty. There's a difference between lazy and being shit.
Star Ocean 3
>>318491160
That's what's most frustrating about XIII and hell most of the later FFs. There's some good stuff there but it's buried under so much unexplained nonsense, one dimensional characters and deus ex bullshit.
>>318491639
>think you're near the end
>here's another 50 hours to play through
Didn't mind so much. It's a game, why does it matter so much that the game was also in a game?
Star Ocean 3.
You should all know it by now.
>>318488574
This retroactively ruined the final Snake vs Liquid fight
>>318491543
Yep, they are called dreams because when you leave a reality to another you "wake up" at the other side, not that they are truly dreams its more like a spirit projection thing
Do I even need to say it?
>>318491481
Chara was much more of a out of left field thing, asriels stuff was all at least forshadowed
>>318491636
I don't know, I just hated the text dump on the walk up to Asgore
you know what it reminded me of? Leder in Mother 3 - that shit pissed me off, because the story was so great, then all of a sudden le epic amnesia twist is delivered with 0 tact or subtlety in a fucking DO YOU UNDERSTAND? y/n dump
I think for videogames, a story point can be shitty not just in what it is but how it's delivered
>>318491976
Least his wife will always give him a hand job when ever he wants.
>>318490804
I seriously spent the entirety of FF13 waiting for something to be explained and it never happened.
By the time I reached the ending sequence I seriously did not care anymore and just pushed through to the end.
I figured we'd get some real story development on Pulse but it just did not fucking happen.
>>318491481
Usually there's a honeymoon period with great /initially well-received games until people start picking them apart (while people sometimes do so to be picky, a lot of times it is valid criticism). I'm waiting for Undertale's to end. I think it's great but flawed and II really think some of the story caves in on itself in certain places, not to mention the meta story takes precedent at the end of the day.
>the guy you were helping was actually the bad guy.
I'm still mad, they threw away all the mystery and intrigue of the lore for a dumb joke.
>>318492113
And the worst part was IT GOT SEQUELS. Who are the people that fucking liked FF13 and wanted more of it?
WHO? WHO I ASK?!
Everything about every bioshock.
"We all grew up in the same orphanage but conveniently forgot because muh GF."
I actually like FFVIII, but that's always the first thing that comes to mind for me when people talk about dumb plot twists. I just remember playing it for the first time and thinking "u fuckin wot" when that scene happened.
>the villain is your best friend all along
>>318488551
>SMB2
Didn't mean to spoil the big twist but yeah
>>318490003
I thought the twist was
WE'RE ACTUALLY IN SPACE
Are the fireworks not to your liking Mr. Fly?
>>318492334
this one was pretty fucking bad
>>318492017
Okami had a plot dump too, but it was so ass-retardedly crazy I didn't give any fucks about how long it was.
>Orochi is a Space Monster

I still don't understand why Ottsels would build shit out of weird bronze colored metal.
>>318492348
Bioshock 1: legitimately great twist
Bioshock 2: there was a twist?
Bioshock infinite: I barely cared by the point it came up and it was so heavily foreshadowed you had to be a moron not to see it coming
>>318488480
>As the first trailers were released, people already were theorizing how utterly retarded it would be if the twist turned out to be that you weren't really Snake
>Everyone laughs and the hype train moves on
>Years later
>It actually was just as retarded as some people jokingly guessed
I will never not hate this twist. Doesn't help that the rest of the story is bland and inconsequential.
>>318492348
I don't get why bioshocks story gets so much praise when the big reveal is fairly similar to system shocks 2 although happens far later in the game.
>>318492817
the praise came from people who had not played ss2
>>318488480
>>318492017
Leder pissed me off too. I loved Mother 3, but everything about the story up to that point was handled so well and then all of a sudden you just get this clumsy, tactless wall of text to explain the most critical plot twist in the entire game.
They could've had the player gradually uncover it and build up to a cool reveal, maybe find some remnant of the White Ship or something, but instead you just get that random NPC from the beginning going "ey, yo, here's the entire backstory, now go fight Porky."
>>318492386
It made sense for me, since they explained that the GF live "inside" your brain, like you give one piece of yourself up for power, to this day i still love FFVIII
>>318492817
yeah the twists are fairly similar, but in BioShock it's delivered greatly imho. Not a 10/10 twist but that deliver was excellent. I still preferred the SS2 one
>>318492432
>they make you blatantly aware your friend is up to no good like 15% into the game
>doesnt come to fruition until the ass end of it
Fuck Xenoblade for this. Great game but goddamn a lot of writing decisions pissed me off and this one easily tops the list.
Not a plot twist but gordon entering the combine pod thing twice in hl2.
I don't even get how people were surprised that you were Revan. The whole game they throw it in your face that you're experiencing visions of things that Revan did.
>>318488574
How can so many people not know that the possession in MGS2 is canon? Lots of deafblind people with alzheimers here, apparently.
>>318491752
Isn't it something about the game just being, well, a game?
>>318493442
Why is it never explained that it was real then fake?
Why doesn't Snake notice the lack of voice change?
That just makes the twist even dumber
>>318492776
>Bioshock 2: there was a twist?
That one dude not betraying you was at least unexpected.
>>318493329
But Bastila got them too, and it wouldn't be entirely unreasonable to assume you were getting them through her due to your bond. I think the twist was very well executed, I even had mygfplay this game for the first time a few months ago and she was surprised by it, so it's not just because I was a kid or anything.
>>318492962
The twist was also basically the same as SS1. They pulled that shit off 4 times, absolute madmen
>>318493107
It bothers me because it feels extremely contrived with how they handle that element. GFs essentially eating parts of your thoughts/memories is a really cool concept which the game introduces and then proceeds to ignore up until that reveal, so it feels like it comes out of nowhere. Then you have the double take of "wait, they ALL conveniently forgot the exact same period of their lives completely except Irvine because reasons, and then they all conveniently got back together," plus the fact that the GFs eating memories is never particularly important to the story outside of that specific point, and the whole damn thing just feels like a giant contrivance.
Basically the interesting concept of the GFs just feels like it was put in as an excuse for that plot twist, so that they could point to it and say "no look, there was a reason for it" when people called them out on being retarded.
I do like FFVIII though. It's probably in my top five FF games, just barely beating out IX.
>>318493791
yeah, but that's more a pleasant surprise than a twist.
Still though, Sinclair's a good guy, even if he didn't seem so straight away.
>>318493803
But why would you have the bond if you weren't Revan?
>>318493329
I figured (up until you only saw visions of Revan with Bastila in them) it was just Bastila's ruminations of her clashes of Revan.
Afterwards I thought it was just the force just leading the way. Though the twist nonetheless was kinda lame, didn't have too much of an impact.
>>318491543
All dreams are real tangible places.

>between MGS2 and 4, he has the arm amputated and replaced by a cyber arm because of how actual possession would make any plan impossible
It's explained in the database and also a conclusion you should be able to reach on your own, considering he reveals that he has a cybernetic arm in the final battle in MGS4.
>>318494248
It does sound fun to me
>>318494370
this one was also pretty bad
>entire game stacks itself up as a deconstruction of the Indiana Jones archetype, seeming to imply that if Nathan Drake was a real person, he'd be dead

what an underwhelming game

>>318494550
I think the emphasis is more on aiming that thing.
Should've just got a shotgun or a cannon though instead of hooking beasts in the gabber.
>>318492807
Yeah.
It made the entire game pointless too.
There is no reason for the game to take place at that point in the MGS timeline, nothing of value was revealed or fleshed out.
And now we'll have to wait several years for the non-Kojima bullshit to maybe get a good Big Boss game.
>aliens did it
Fuck bloodborne.
>>318494650
There's literally nothing wrong with using aliens for your plot.

>>318494195
If they just dropped his exposure in the Marsh, or at least made it less blatant ('man I feel sorry for what these kids are in for' rather than 'I'm totally fucking with them' for example) then everything would have been dandy. There's still the odd mention of him by Lorithia and Alvis and his intrigue about Meyneth to work with before he does his thing. Just dropping the bomb like that, especially that early, was horrible execution.
Wasn't the GF/memory thing mentioned in the beginning of VIII? I'm pretty sure it came up before the SeeD exam. Either Quistis mentions it or it's in one of the quizzes you can take or something.
>>318494650
They're more lovecraftian things than straight up aliens, right? Or maybe that's not really a significant enough of a distinction.ayy lmao
Honestly thought Bioshock 1's twist wasn't offensively horrible, even if it did ape ss2's. Infinite's twist was just disgusting though.

>>318494497
>It's explained in the database
Where?
Liquid Ocelot
01
02
03
03
Liquid Ocelot's personality was actually nothing more than the man-made product of Revolver Ocelot's own drug use and autosuggestion.
Revolver Ocelot played the part of Liquid Ocelot in order to awaken Big Boss, who had been kept in a comatose state by the Patriots' AI collective, to find the whereabouts of Zero. He posed as a Liquid Snake doppelgänger in order to hide those intentions from the core AI, JD.
Once he had destroyed JD from the inside, his mission as Liquid Ocelot was over. When his life was subsequently claimed by FOXDIE, he died as Revolver Ocelot himself.
>>318492386
>>318493107
Their memories are irrelevant, and it's not a coincidence. Why can't people comprehend FF8?
FF8 is a single time loop with a pre-determined outcome. Basically:
>Ultimecia, hunted all her life by Seed without knowing why, uses the Ellone Junction Machine to delve as far as possible into the past as it can take her, which is in Squall's time
>she possesses Edea, who has Sorceress powers, in order to infiltrate the Galbadian government and seek out Ellone, who can help her go even further back in time
>her goal is to go far enough back in time to compress it in order to save her foretold death at the hands of SeeD
>at the end of disc 1, where people think Squall dies, Ultimecia spares the squad's life after the assassination attempt in order to extract information about their goals and why they hunt Sorceresses (she's unaware that the reason Edea is hunted is because of the actions Ultimecia has committed in her body while sending her consciousness through time)
>bla bla bla, Ultimecia succeeds in compressing time
>Squall and co. confront her in her timeline, and they fatally injure her, just like prophesied
>time begins to decompress, and she is able to travel back into the past to find a host for her powers in order to find peace in death
>she appears before the orphanage where Edea is matron
>Squall follows Ultimecia and witnesses as she passes her powers to Edea, completing the cycle
>Ultimecia dies, and Squall who now realizes what has happened, tells Edea to form SeeD
>Squall heads back through time and walks for however long, which is where the actual opening to the game occurs (Rinoa waiting for him in their time in that field
>Edea, realizing that the adult Squall is the same as the child in her orphanage, trains all of them in the future
Essentially, it's a paradox where Ultimecia has to die, and her actions to prevent it is what caused the chain of events to begin with.
TL;DR: You're fucking retarded. I got all this when I was 12.
>>318495052
>even if it did ape ss2's
She's on the fucking box, it's not a twist.
>>318495190
I wouldn't necessarily say that.
The characters weren't the main problem, the problem was that the writers went full Shamalamadingdong with the latter half of the plot and hoped to God that no one would look too closely at it.It fucking worked, apparently
>>318492334
The plot twist started at the beginning of the second game and it went all downhill from there.
>>318488480
I AM BIG BOSS AND SO ARE YOU
At least the Liquid possession bullshit in MGS4 was there just to appease the nostalgia which it did perfectly
>>318488480
MGSV
Man, MGSV is so misunderstood. It's funny how closely the game's reception mimics 2's. Give it a few years and people will be exaggerating how "brilliant" it was and how whatever the newest MGS at that time is terrible.
>>318496529
>new MGS
Anon that seems rather unlikely
>>318496654
We'll get another one. I doubt Kojima or any of the core KojiPro people will be involved though. It'll likely be an empty husk of a game relying on the series' name to sell. Like the new Battlefront.
>>318496784
maybe now we'll get good writing.
>>318496865
That's less likely than the series gaining intelligent fans.
>>318496529
I'm a huge MGS2fag, to the point I unironically used "2deep4u" as a defense long ago.
But even I can see how dumb this was.
It's not even close to what MGS2 was, it felt like cheap copy, like everyone was expecting a MGS2 tier mindfuck, so Kojima had to deliver something on that level just because.
You can say Kojima knew this was the end for the series, so he rehashed 2 because "Letting the player move on" was the message he wanted to end the series on the first time, but it really should have been handled better.
It doesn't help that most people knew 75% of the twists from the trailers alone, and almost everyone agreed the Big Boss we were going to play as wasn't actually Big Boss.
The only thing most got wrong was who he was, Gray Fox, Solidus, and Decoy Octopus were all at the top of the list, but there were people in called Medic after realizing his voice actor, and especially after his face was revealed in GZ
I'm not gonna blame Konami like most people do, but I'm really curious what would have happened had they not "sent Kojima on vacation"
>>318488574
>tfw you realize that Ocelot really was Liquid in the official story lore

> it wouldn't be entirely unreasonable to assume you were getting them through her due to your bond
except there is no explanation to your bond with her, except the indication that "something ominous" happened between her and revan in their final moment of their battle.
Assuming that you are some random bloke sharing her vision of the BBEG without you having any significance in an exclusive 2 part relation is kind of obtuse. There is only revan and bastila and that one guy who lost his memory to unexplained cicumstances who is also exorbitantly powerful with the force - WAT A TWEEEST!
Can't really remember if it was a plot twist cause it was so unmemorable.
Arcanus is Alex. it was so fucking obvious to anyone that had played the previous games.

>Jak 2 was retardedly grimdark
Exactly. What attracted me to jak and daxter was the childishly colorful and melodic trailer on one of the PS2 demo disks, which left me with a smile on my face.
Jak 2 tried to force melodrama and "TWIST" to it, by showing the end-boss in the fucking intro; I realized it was the old mysterious man by the second cutscene he featured in. Naughty dog has a weird addiction to pathos, and not really the competence to make it better than dan brown.

What?
Uncharted 3 had pretty bad story issues, but there was nothing that "was all a dream".
The only thing anything close to that was the level where you were tripping balls and hallucinated Sully dying and Flame Monsters. That was quite literally 1/22th of the game, and not exactly a "epic twist".
> person you saw twice is the final boss
Again, you sure your thinking of the right game? Talbot was tailing you the whole game, he was in first cutscene, he appeared in France, Syria and Yemen and he was obviously setup as a rival for Drake.
This doesn't excuse everything wrong with Uncharted 3, but there was no real "twist", the plot just fell apart and the last act was super rushed.
This is how to retroactively make TWO games depressing to replay, with just one ending.

The thing that pisses me off the most about the Jason Todd thing is someone outright asked 'Is it Jason Todd?' On reveal and they just said 'No.'
They didn't bother to change it up at all when they realised it was so obvious someone picked it from literary nothing. Then again, they couldn't even bother to port it properly either.

That was more of the plot than you're claiming it to be. It's also more kung fu shit than satan and hell shit. Lastly, the game was originally supposed to be a Big Trouble in Little China game but in the end was more of an homage to it than a direct tie-in.

The events only happen once, so it's not exactly a loop. The starting point is when Ultimecia possesses Edea in present-day FF8, and the ending point is when Squall and Ultimecia appear in the past. It's just a predetermined fact of the universe that we get to witness in action, because that is the story of the game. When Squall returns to the void, time progresses normally and everything is well.
It's actually a pretty mind bending and complex story. Even the "dumber" aspects such as the Lunar Cry has a logical reason. People just like to shit on things they don't understand.

Regarding Ace Attorney, it's kinda hard to shit on plot twists when the series doesn't take itself seriously to begin with. Hell, even the dramatic parts are tongue-in-cheek to an extent.

However because of some time travel bullshit, your possessed father needs your physical body to complete his plan.So he switches bodies with you.You also play 1/3 of the game in the villain's bodyThe only real connection to Trigger is that the AI is inspired by Lucca's research and them fucking with the timeline.
Again, I made it sound more interesting than it actually is. Theres almost no story and its all complicated bullshit. Serge is a silent protagonist and the only party member that has personality is also 1/3 in the game. The rest are literally empty slots for each other.

why? What was the reason given cause I never played wow at this part.
>>318500854
In the Jak and Daxter universe the world (and everything) was built by The Precursors who were long gone by the time of humans. They were studied and revered as gods, and thier technology was vastly superior to everything else. Everything about Precursors had a distinct style of sleek bronze metal and large curved surfaces. Precursors themselves were always represented by giant statues with large bulbous eyes and long trumpet like noses, the idols spoke in very deep, very powerful sounding voices.
After 3 games of this, the ending of Jak 3 revealed that they were actually just silly little rodents who acted like stereotypical cartoon characters (one of them says "yeah dude" and other surfer catchphrases.
It was such a stupid desiscion, made worse by the fact that Jak 3 had a temple dedicated to the Precursors filled with carvings and paintings that seemingly expanded the mythology, and ZERO foreshadowing of the truth, which made the rug-pull even more jarring.

> The guy you race at one point comes back to be the villian even though he saved you in 2
He never saved you, and he did more than race you once. He hated Jak more than anyone (even Praxis came to respect you), he was a vengeful idiot who wanted to fuck Kiera and kill Jak, zero redeeming qualities.
Him coming back as a robot to be the villian was pretty contrived though, but he never went through a personality change.
Regarding Jak 3, wasn't it revealed thatJak's somehow Mar, or did I misinterpret that?

In Jak 2 you send your younger self back to the past, so he can grow up in safety and eventually do all the stuff you already did.
It's a paradox, but a neat loop, the only loose thread was where the Metal Heads came from in the first place, since they appeared trapped in the time vortex.
The ending also hints that Jak is Mar (" I think we'll meet him sooner than you think.....")
Jak 3 establishes Damos as Jaks father, and his birth name was Mar, as well as spending the whole game casually mentioning Mar's achievments. It doesn't confirm it, since it could just be named after his ancestor who founded the city. But it really seems like there's a missing thread to the time travel stuff.
A Jak 4 where the metal Heads appear for the first time (I.E Kor doesn't know you) and eventually banish them back in time, to the beginning of Jak 2, and Jak goes back as well to continue fighting them (coming out of the portal seconds after Jak, Daxter, Samos and Kiera enter it would be a nice touch) and assuming the role of Mar, uniting the people and building a city in defence of the Metal Heads would solve pretty much everything that's unanswered and been heavily forsshadowed/implied.

I like Sazh and Snow. Snow for his optimism, and Sazh because he was amusing and bumbling. I kinda have a soft spot for the bumbling father type characters.
Lightning was cardboard, and she could have had a superb dynamic with Hope but in all the time they were alone it was just Hope being angry and Lightning going "... yeah" every once in a while.
The combat nearly put me to sleep, too. Sure you could spice it a bit by choosing not to do auto-battle but it automatically picks the best tactics for you so I saw no reason why not. (Some people on /v/ actually argue that auto-battle will get you killed but really not if you're smart with paradigm shifts, which takes all of once brain cell to understand)
It's a poor game.
>>318502395
Its been a while since I've actually played it, didn't the Precursors say something about helping Jak "fulfill his destiny" when they left with him or something? It showed that he supposedly stayed behind right after, but I kinda interpreted that as Jak playing his part as Mar and then coming back right after he "left". The game introduced time-travel shenanigans before that, I figured it wasn't a stretch for it to do it again. I thought that was why Jak emphasized his name being Mar, because he became the historical Mar.
Your explanation does make more sense though, I just thought it was weird how the Mar angle was pushed in the ending.

I don't see how anything else can win, the sheer volume of shitty plot twists alone makes it hardly a fair fight.
>>318502301

But not on purpose. Praxis orders you killed, and before the guards can shoot Errol (completly oblivious to what's going on) tries to run you over out of rage and ends up crashing into a stack of Eco barrels.
> knocking him into a pit on the first lap because all the other racers were gimped to make it so Errol always won, so you had an easy race.

>>318502775
3's shitty twist aside I'm surprised how much story Jak 2 has for a platformer.
>>318503110
No it's not, which is why I said that was the one missing link in Jak 2's time loop.
Kor says "at last the rift gate has been opened" (or something similar), which implies they've been stuck in there waiting for a way out.
But that contradicts how Rift Gates work in both the intro and ending, where there was only 1 and they managed to travel through time.

The story however is dogshit. Like I said, only one of the main characters actually has a personality and is barely there. another good opportunity for a prequel would be to play as Mar instead of Jak, since the gameplay is obviously going to be completely different if they ever reboot the series
they could just make a prequel series with Mar as a new character and then there will be less 'Jak = Mar' debates
since apparently Mar and Metal Kor travelled through time fighting each other and they could even call the Metalheads, the Hora Quan in the game, like in Jak 2, when it's revealed that was their original name.
>>318488930
Read this as "LA Noire" and got pretty damn confused.
>>318503225
Yeah, people are always meming about how edgy it is, but it's story and world building are actually quite good.
There's clear goals and objectives for Jak (killing Praxis), but also all the other plots about the Underground, the Metal Heads sabotaging infrastructure and Krews shady stuff.
Jak 3 is one of the worst story structures I've ever seen, go replay it and you'll notice that Jak has no objective for the first 3rd of the game. He's stuck in the desert, not DOESNT want to go home. He's doing odd jobs with no overall goal, then Act 2 and 3 are just a mess with 3 antagonist groups and very poor direction.
2 had some issues (Krews plan involved "selling you all out", he Apperently was going to get rich by betraying both Haven and the Metal Heads and destroying the planet....somehow) but all the mini archs made sense and there was always forward motivation.
After grinding forever, going back in time and grinding forever again, you succeed in taking down the big bad guy and are reborn as the guy who will be killed and replaced by the big bad guy in the future to trick yourself into grinding forever in an infinite timeloop

>>318505216
I still think the entire focus of WoL should have been fighting Mengsk. HotS would be pure evil Kerrigan doing evil and LotV would be killing her.
Basically mirror the fuck out of SC1.
Also Starcraft 2, Dr. Narud? Who could possibly that be?
>>318505380
WoL = Getting a foothold for Raynor's Raiders, help Valerian to get some help to topple Mengsk, sure.
HotS would be Kerrigan trying to regain control of her forces of Mengsk would use the Psi disruptor again or something.
LotV would be the Protoss regaining Aiur from the Zerg, Kerrigans Zerg. Regaining the tribes etc.
>Hadria was evil all along because daddy issues.
>>318505476
Kerrigan needs to be killed somewhere in the series or there is no closure.
>>318505476
That works. Keep it simple and allow Raynor to hold his promise of killing Kerrigan. (Would have made for a great final cutscene for the series)
>>318505538
Even if she has to die, let it be in LotV then where the Protoss wants to regain Aiur.

What game?
What pisses me off is a traitor system like in DoW II's Chaos Rising expansion; very early in the expansion's story it is made clear there's a traitor within your Bloody Magpies. The traitor is determined by the most corrupted character on your lineup; if no one is corrupt in particular, this faggot in pic related turns, who isn't playable in the campaign and sits around on your ship doing fucking nothing.
And the confirmation check of the traitor character is done just before the reveal, resulting in dialogue written as if the character chosen was the traitor all along. Shit's annoying.
The only would-be traitor that makes sense would beJonah, sincehe gets possessed by a daemon

>The whole "you're a bad person" thing after being forced to do those thjngs was bullshit
You're not a bad person. The main character is.
>>318506741
>L'Belle
>a plot twist
>when you know he's the murderer from the get go
But you're right about 5-2 having shit plot twists. That's the point of this thread.
>>318506707
it's hardly a plot twist. the themes of representation of his mother, his father, and himself are entirely consistent. I for one was not surprised at all that isaac 'battles' himself.
>>318505905
All of the Traitors make sense except for Martellus, since he repeatedly puts you on the path to figuring out the traitor, even when he wouldn't have to.
>>318506879
You know he was the murderer, yes, but how you manage to prove it (the hair in the mask) is mind blowing. It's just very well written, I had no idea until the logic synapse where the game zooms in and plays that explosion sfx as Phoenix announces it. All other logic synapses were obvious and I already knew the outcome, especially the one that says "Athena stabbed the real murderer", that one was fucking obvious
>>318504646
While Liquid was a faggot yes, the game still treated Liquid Ocelot to actually really be Liquid.
Venom Snake is an official Big Boss because of hypnotherapy
Just like how Ocelot was an Official Liquid Snake though hypnotherapy
Despite the fact that spiritually and physically, they aren't the same person. Only mentally which also makes no sense and purely impractical.
MGS has such stupid logic that not even the fans understood it.
>>318506216
What game
>>318506964
But it WAS fucking obvious.
You knew L'Belle was dyeing his hair and it would wash away with water (as the mask was found in the river) How did you not think it was him since the white hair couldn't be the Alderman's? Even more, he was the one wearing the fucking mask.
How was that even a plot twist? You were just stating shit you already knew.
>>318506929
And he's the toughest boss in the game for it too
>>318488480
The one in your favorite video game.
>>318507171
You know that water would wash away the color of his hair and you know that it was found in the river, but you do NOT know that he was the one wearing the mask, you only learn about that during Phoenix's logic synapse. The white hair in the mask makes you think that it belongs to the Alderman because not even once do you see L'Belle with white hair, in fact seeing how he is young you wouldn't ever think that L'Belle had white hair.
Not sure why you are trying so hard to ruin a beautiful case with lies, anon, why would someone do this in the Internet?
>>318507298
You forgot the part where it was already stated that Jinxie spoke to his "father" who was wearing the Kyuubi mask. You already knew L'Belle was the one pretending to be Damian because the Alderman was fucking dead
>beautiful case
lol no, 5-2 is one of the fucking worst cases in the franchise.
>>318507467
Oh, I see, anon, you didn't pay attention to the case.
First of all, Jinxie is female. She said that she spoke with her father and he confessed to his crimes, but she only thought it was her father because he was wearing the mask that her father always used to wear. The Alderman has nothing to do with that plot twist. Phoenix deduces that it wasn't really the mayor guy because he wouldn't confess to a crime he didn't commit or something and because Phoenix knew L'Belle had tampered with the scene.
>>318493329
I picked it up for a second playthrough after years and years and I felt retarded for missing all the hints the first time through. I couldn't have been THAT young.
>>318507596
Yeah and by that point you already know that "Damian" was full of bullshit and it was L'Belle the one wearing the mask and pretending to be him. You already know he was the one who threw the mask out of the window and you already know Damian is actually the nine tails given Jinxie's behavior.
There's nothing "plot-twisty" about that. If YOU had actually been paying attention to the case you'd have realized the HUEG PLOT TWIST halfway there.
>>318507780
Except for you don't. I play Attorney Online (a multiplayer game where each player assumes one role in a trial simulating a case created by a case maker much like Ace Attorney), and you sound just like those faggots who struggle a lot to go through a case, almost fail, and then when someone spoonfeeds them the solution they start saying "l-lol it was obvious I knew it all the time what a fucking easy retarded case". Yes, anon, it becomes obvious when the game literally tells you the solution, who'd guess? But it's almost impossible to deduce so until the actual logic synapse.
No matter how much you stretch your logic, if you really thought L'Belle had white hair from the get go you should check a doctor. He was very young and you know from the get go that there was white hair in the mask and that the mayor guy (who should wear the mask) has white hair.
>>318492807
>rewriting history
there were a shit ton of people hoping you weren't playing as big boss because of the VA switch. Until the game's release people were picking apart the trailers and interviews to fuel their expectations of playing as grey fox or some other retarded idea. The only widespread joke theory was chico = quiet.
>>318507986
>if you really thought L'Belle had white hair from the get go
I never said this, you stupid fuck.
I didn't think it was L'Belle's hair when I first picked up the mask. I said it was obvious as fuck after the case developed and by the time they spoonfeed you the answer it was already obvious for the player.
>But it's almost impossible to deduce so until the actual logic synapse
Oh yeah, keep assuming everyone must be a low attention span imbecile like yourself who forgets shit that happens through the case and must be reminded of the development with flashbacks and expositions.
>>318505187
it's not so much as a twist as it is the writers giving up and channeling the matrix
>>318508225
>I never said that I knew L'Belle had white hair from the get go you stupid fuck
>I only said that I reached a conclusion that implies L'Belle has white hair from the get go!
The sad part is that you are not even trolling, you are really trying hard to shit on something for the sake of being a contrarian, and you end up contradicting yourself several ways on the process
>>318508325
I said you know he was the murderer from the get go, not that you knew his hair was on the mask from the get go.
Can you even fucking read?
>>318508397
Everyone knows he is the murderer from the get go, smart guy. The plot twist I've been referring to is how his hair was in the mask all long.
See what you said here:
>>318507171
You were trying to explain how it is easy to deduce his hair was there from the start, but you have to be a fool if you assume that L'Belle has white hair from the start while also ignoring the fact that the original owner of the mask is the one with white hair.
Anon, it's OK, you don't have to look smart here, this is an anonymous board
>>318508558
And read what I said
>You knew L'Belle was dyeing his hair
You don't know this until later in the game, way after finding the mask. I was never implying it was obvious from the start, I said it was obvious AFTER you find out stuff like him dying his hair and Jinxie's testimony.
And by the time the logic climax happens, you already know how shit went down if you were paying attention, so it's not even remotely a plot twist.
Do you lack reading comprehension?
>You are a psycho who escapes from an asylum and kills people he thinks are monsters and zombies, then lights himself on fire
Ffuck you dark souls

>Also every scientist thought they were making a time machine, but it was actually a mile high weapon of mass destruction

>>318494650
Nah, this one was a great twist. The slow realization that this isn't classic gothic horror is pretty fun. When I fell down the wrong path in the forest and saw an alien, I figured it was actually a fungus creature or just FROM being themselves.
But then it all went off the rails and I'm so impressed at how they actually handled straight up Classic Lovecraft

>>318502760

I'm the same way, anon. It also got me. I think it's because the Force is used as a shitty plot device so frequently it's easy to accept force visions and bonds for no reason. Same thing with your character being so strong. Of course he is, he's the main fucking character. If you'd been looking for a twist you would have seen it miles away, but you had no reason to expect a video game to try something like that.
Which is the exact opposite problem the Shock series have, where they feel the need to pull off variations of the same twist repeatedly

>haha just kidding turns out they're not your friends at all
>5v(You) final boss
>you have to win the fight, not scripted to lose.
>>318503771
I would say there are many smaller twists, but no big identity twist. The entire concept of free will vs the force and calling into question if your actions were your own comes close, though.
>the antagonist you're out to kill was actually you all along!
>chose the dragon over the princess
>princess kills the final boss
>becomes the frost queen
huh. So she could just do it the entire time?
Kill Strelok.
I love the series, but VLR's twist was dumb as all hell.
>>318504363
giggity
you're a cat
>>318488574
>someone actually being possessed by a dead man's arm is the better story line!
wat
The poisoning in Dishonored. Way to ruin a great game.
>hey guys let's take away his stuff and make him run thru several boring irrelevant areas before he can see more good content XD
>we literally can't write plot twists that don't suck XD
almost uninstalled

Looks like the ending of From Dusk Till Dawn (movie), which is highly praised for the nonsense of it, and it is fucking fun when watching it

>THERE NEVER WAS AN AARON
10/10 movie
>>318515704
Final Fantasy XII had some amazing lore (bestiary entries) which was never explored. It was more Final Politics with Fantasy elements than Final Fantasy but I enjoyed it anyway.
Music was disappointing thoughAlso Penelo dat ass
>>318511463
>Assassins Creed
You learn this in the first few minutes of the game
although I guess all the promotional material never mentioned any of that
>>318513601
AC1 had the dried blood on the wall

Practically the entire game is in Isaac's imagination. He's a kid with severe identity problems and issues with regards to his Mom and religion (his Mom's a bitch but if he rebels he's a sinner etc). The ending where you go to Sheol first is the 'bad' end, which is the one where he sees himself becoming a demon. The one where he ascends to heaven is the 'good' end, but only because he then goes on to defeat the Blue Baby, who is what he sees as what he becomes if he succumbs to his thoughts of suicide (i.e. suffocating in his toy chest, which is what happened to Guppy). That's nearly entirely fan opinion, but it makes sense. Edmund's not exactly going to explain everything of his own accord, so it might as well be canon until part of it's disproven.
>>318519864
Wasnt there the ending explaining about the family?
Still dont understand what happen to the dad or why the mom threatened him
>>318511057
i'm playing through it right now and i haven't found this out yet, but i'm not really surprised and i'm having trouble caring about this.
>>318520072
The dad left, either because he found another chick/hated his crazy-ass wife (could be both, can't remember all the photos), then Mom became more and more wacked out and started abusing Isaac.
The stuff you actually do in the game, however, isn't real. One of the endings even shows Isaac getting interrupted from his pretend adventure when his Mom bursts in.
Ar Nosurge. The entire game was just dumb and finding out the bad guy was just a player trying to get full achievement. Not to mention you spend most of the game shoving these dating sim shit into it.
>>318511363
because they were running at low gravity the entire game so his muscles felt young
>>318515260
I think he's talking about the animus ? it's not a plot twist then
>you were actually the villain all along
>except you're not REALLY the villain, you just feel guilty because actually it was the atomic bomb all along
>>318504316
That's not true though
>>318520738
The animus and Aliens weren't related like that were they?
The aliens tried to send a message to manking, using the knowledge that humans would visit the old assassin's through the animus, they planted their message there.
Actually, fuck it, how the fuck can you keep up with a trainwreck plot like that of the AC series?
>no spy, you are the buildings
>>318520914
What?
Which game?
>3 people keep hunting you

that fucking scene
>>318521018
Honestly I don't know why everyone here is calling them ayyliens. I mean I won't defend this shit ass twist but nowhere in the series it is say that they come from space, they're not aliens, they're the first human civilization. Sure they were very advanced and had tech so powerful it makes them looks like aliens, but they're not. They were worshiped by the earliest known civilizations as gods though, and that's pretty dope
>>318511463
>JAMES KILLED HIS WIFE
But that twist was fucking rad
>>318495015
lovecraft's latter work revolved around aliens, though not aliens as we think of them. His horror focused on the fact there are beings out there that were. are, and always will be stronger than us, so one day we will be enslaved and killed. There is nothing we can do to stop it. Knowledge of these facts makes lovecraft chars go insane, or just straight up die. In bloodborne your char learns the unspeakable truth and either forgets it, Becomes the next host of the truth, or (in dark souls fashion) end the current cycle of events, by transcending humanity, and pasting becoming a "kin" to become an old one. Who pities and cares for humans.... like many of the old ones do in the lore of bloodborne. also was i the only one who thought the moon presence was adorable...
>>318488480
I'll post instead the best twist i've ever seen in media.
>I'm the senate.
Came out of fucking nowhere but the buildup was amazing.
Lucas is a genius.
>>318501437
actually yes this was so stupid. I realize MMORPG's cant change the world bc other people need to level... but after killing the LK you really didnt feel like you did anything
muh aliens something something
I don't even remember what was it about but I was fucking pissed
>>318502783
............ youre one of those people who think marche was a bad guy right?
>>318498887
thought you were talking about ff10 for a moment, surprisingly enough there are a lot of things these two games have in common
>>318522524
Were there aliens involved? I forgot exactly what it was, just that it went completely fucking nuts after the first half. Weren't there some sentient robots who were the manifestation of the internet or something?
>>318504410
well the greek gods were always cunts and used humans as play things.... thats just using the myths
Never felt so angry after Star Ocean 4's "wow we are all MMORPG" fucking shit
>>318522640
>sentient robots who were the manifestation of the internet
top kek, I dunno. It's possible though.
>>318488574

Man, reading about the plot on wikipedia really highlights how fucking nuts this game got
>>318491639
Well you got my vote.
>Attack a space-age warship with a Dragon and old timey cannon on it's back.
Cause the Vendeeni couldn't just go to a higher altitude than your dragon and fire a lazer at it? Come on now...

3.)

>>318523192
eh. that part was kind of stupid, but i could get into it. the game up to that point was still golden.
>>318523363
The one thing I always hated was how I had to choose between the four party members. Meanwhile they give you useless-ass Adray for no fucking reason. I mean I played the game when it came out and I was a kid, you think I'm going to pick PEPPITA over Albel?
>>318522524
>According to GameSpot, "Fahrenheit gives the term 'cinematic gameplay' some context, as well as some real heartfelt meaning. But where the game truly shines is in its story, which is a deep, captivating, and sometimes disturbing tale."

You think that's bad. Try FFXIV. Finding out that Nanamo actually didn't die and that Lolorito was the one behind Illberd and turning the Crystal Braves on you the player. Only to find out later on in Heavensward that everything gets solved in one cut scene and how everyone is like cool with Lolorito and forgives him. "GUIZ BELIEVE ME I WAS REALLY GOING TO LET RAHUNBAN AND THE WARRIOR OF LIGHT OUT AFTER A WHILE I SWEAR!"

That's my issue with 13 there's a good game trying to get out but is covered in bullshit
>>318494479
Mgs2 never happened. It was a vr mission anyway
>>318490674
Why the fuck were they even able to do that?
I only got through to the end of disc 2 before dumpin that shit
I later saw an overview of what happens from that point and it makes zero fucking sense.
FF13 makes Blazblue's narrative seem like a well thought out crime drama

You literally start the game on an asylum.
You kill people who have gone hollow, and as such can be defined as monsters and zombies.
In the end you can chose to kindle the flame.
