You can get by just fine with base endurance in BB, so prioritize your other stats first and then decide how much you're comfortable with. Level Arcane to at least 15 since Ludwig's scales with it and you get access to the best hunter tools.

Ludwigs is probably the best weapon for a first playthrough. If your having trouble with a boss fire paper if its beast or lightning paper if its alium. Just get used to the range with ludwigs and go with it family

so how exactly do you "clear" a chalice dungeon? I set up the first one the game lets you make, the most basic one, did the premade one not a root/random generated one, so far I've gone down to depth 3 on it or whatever. Does it go all the way down to depth 5 and then it's cleared or what?

I can say, with an honest heart, that at this time I would consider this one of my favourite games ever made.
It sounds like an exaggeration, but this game does everything it does rather perfectly. Scratch one thing: the blood vial system is annoying as fuck and the game'd benefit more from an Estus flask refill system.
I have played through the game (with all optional content) a total of 3 times now, and with the DLC on top of a great vanilla cake, this makes one hell of a great video game.
Fighting Ludwig, Maria and Orphan all made me grin and think "I love video games", and that's not something a ton of games do to me despite playing a ton.
I'm going to distance myself from this game for about a year and see how I feel about it then, but as of now, it's pretty much one of my favourite games ever. Best game to come out of the past 5 ish years along with Bayonetta.

"Depth" is not how many floors the dungeon has, it's the difficulty level. The first one is "depth 1" and it has three floors.

It's pretty brutal for zoning your oponents in PVP if they're shit at parrying, you can twist round and backstep on the R2 - they'll always take the bait - and immediatly turn and fuck them. The Hunter's Axe L2 is an even more OP version of that, if you dodge to the side you'll still take a 400+ facefuck.
Pair it with a harder weapon to parry and your good, although the untricked version of the cane is very speedy.

Celestial Emissary and Living Failures are pretty inexcusably boring and shit fights. Again, the thematic sort of redeems them. They seem to be there for a certain reason other than "here is a cool-ass boss fight".

You can't get access to 'magic' items until later in the game, so you'll have to do NG+ if you really want to do a playthrough using it. You're going to be using melee primarily though.

One of the best games ever made, especially of you care about lore. But otherwise it also has excellent satisfying gameplay and its challenging but not difficult for the sake of difficulty (no bullshit). The one complain could be lack of builds but IMO the expansion solved this and now there are more clearly defined builds.
If you do care about lore, don't look up an explanation or anything, first read every item for yourself and pay attention to dialogues, and make your own assumptions and theories. Then look up what other people think and compare and contrast.

I'm 100% convinced that the Ludwig fight always ends with a visceral attack unless you miss the frame for it. Every video I've seen of it ends with a visceral, and I fought him on two different characters and both times he fell at just enough hp for a visceral to kill him (one using beast cutter on ng, the other was Reiterpallasch on ng+, no chalice gems). No back attacks, no parry, he just fell down after hitting a certain hp.

Spear, the trick attack into the cleaver is strong as fuck and is a sweep attack, so its very easy to catch enemies who try to move out of combos. Same reason I like the Axe, sweeping attacks AND vertical attacks. If a weapon cant do both in any of the Souls games I simply dont use it, even if its strunk as fuck, I need to be able to do certain attacks I want to in whatever situation demands it.The simple Longsword is my favourite weapon in Souls games.

Ludwig there really is no quality build of it. It has strong base damage, a very pleasing quick moveset and scales the similarily low with str skill and arcane. 25/25 str/skill is a first goal and then going up on either or depending on what other weapon you also want to upgrade and use

As far as endurance, 20-25 is all you need desu. You get a better benefit pumping vit.

Far more intense because of its faster pace, but also more streamlined. There's less depth to the systems and less variety to the combat, so if you're somebody who likes to play them again and again then you might be disappointed. But if you're only looking for one or two playthroughs then it's just as good if not better than Dark Souls. The DLC is a high point for the series for me.

All I know is that in BB I usually git gud after a while when I can't beat a boss and then he never gives me trouble again (except Ebrietas). But in DS I actually cheesed the 4 kings by wearing Havel's Armor and spamming R1 two handed longsword.

The visuals are damn impressive but after some thought I'm not surprised how good they got it. The fundamental game design in BB has been refined over 3 games so they could put a lot of attention to visuals. Souls games also lack those complicated "set pieces" a lot of AAA games have so that probably freed up a lot of resources. Although, if you look closely enough, there is a lot that's recycled. Not that it comes off that way, but it's there like all games.

It was a measure made to stop twinking, like what happened with dark souls 1 with shitters in full +5 lightning gear killing people in one hit.
the "solution" they had was not to have matchmaking based on your gear, but on how many souls you've collected. This has the horrible side effect of making it so that if you end up dying a lot, and trust me it happens because of how shitty the rest of the game is, you can't get any summons to help you with the shitty areas that were designed for multiplayer. The NPC summons are ass, they hit like wet noodles and are as durable as toilet paper, and they aren't even good as distraction on bosses because they are so fucking weak and die so fast.

You can parry him and in his first phase you can avoid his AoEs and his jump if you dodge towards him instead of away from him. Be careful though because his small AoE ends with an attack to the side that will hot you if you don't back away.
When he does the ground smash get behind him and punish, when he does jump attack dodge towards him and punish, whenever he ends a combo (and didn't hit you) punish. Also use bolt paper.

Orphan IS quite easy to parry. In each of his forms, there is always at least 2 attacks that you can wait to bait that are relatively easy to parry.

I really think the ability to parry/backstab bosses is a mistake. They should have removed that from bosses. The fight is so much more interesting without parries.

Nigger, it's actually incredibly powerful, but you need to know the right time to use it
You throw it in at the end of an attack string that would've had you been unable to escape without trading or something, and instead of doing your last hit with your main weapon, you stunpunch them and get the fuck out
Or, you mash the stunpunch and completely stop something buffing or entering a hyper mode. Effective on the big axechime guys, you can mash them with the fist 2-3 times to stop them doing their buff completely.
I stopped Abhorrent beast in the chalice dungeons from buffing and healing by just smacking him during it.
One last thing: beastmode. If you build a full beast bar, the fist benefits from it unlike other left hand shit. You can punch for 300 or more damage depending on how much STR you have, and if you do it right, you stunlock someone with as many hits as your stamina bar can give you and kill them without them being able to do a fucking thing.

When you kill enemies, you get blood echoes which act as the currency, both for levelling up and for buying items.
If you die, you drop a pile of blood that contains your accumulated blood echoes or they are absorbed by an enemy, so you can either go pick them up or kill the enemy to retrieve them.
If you die before you get them back though, you drop a new puddle and the previous one is removed and all the echoes contained within are lost forever.

Ludwig's 2nd form is much easier than the first. His combo string is ridiculously long and he only has two ranges.
If you are far away, he will do a long charge or stab, both easy to avoid. Then he will do a close range 3 hit combo, which is easy to dodge and then you can wail on him from long range as an ARC or BLT. Repeat until he does the huge AOE Excalibur blast; run behind him and wail the shit out of him.

I always try to summon, but I'm kind OCD and like to clear a level and loot every treasure by myself then summon at the boss door.
Some of the most co-op fun I had were actually going through an entire level with a host with neither of us knowing what's happening.
I went through the a good deal of the Astral Clock Tower as a summon with a fellow Executioner when I first got there, then I fell off the fucking stairs trying to kill that gatling gun old fart near the upper levels. But it was fun as hell.
There is something rather soulless about summoning a dude just to gangbang a boss and then wave goodbye 2 minutes later.

I think that what the anon meant is that Ebrietas is not a Great One in the same way as the Moon Presence. Which I agree, for one there are two Ebrietas in the game and secondly if you have seen the little slugs in Upper Cathedral Ward you can notice that they are literally little Ebrietas, they even have underdeveloped wings. Also the whore's baby is one of these things.
This must mean that Ebrietas is not an original Great One but rather the offspring of a Great One and a human. This for me makes sense if "every great one loses its child then yearns for a surrogate" is taken in the sense that the child that the Great One literally gives birth through is the one that dies.
Orphan of Kos seems to kinda back this up seeing how his mother gives birth through him. It may be that no Great One can be born without another one dying.
