/v/ is actually the best place to discuss video games on the internet. If I didn't feel that way then I would be on a different website instead. But there are a few problems I can think of.

This is a big one. Gamergate did irreparable damage to /v/.
Another problem is people and their shitty little persecution complexes. I hate the way people try to pretend they're in the minority and make themselves look like poor innocent little victims.
Another problem is "that guy" who pretends to be the mature, unbiased, balanced middle ground when there's a debate happening on /v/. He will often insist that it's not a legitimate debate, citing some name calling or something (because if someone calls another person an idiot, that invalidates everything else which was said apparently). He wants to shut down the discussion, he thinks people aren't allowed to have different opinions and debate which one is better, and he thinks of himself as being really wise and mature, when in actuality he is often presenting very strong opinions himself and just doesn't realize it; he thinks everything he says is a fact. That type of person. We've all seen this kinds of poster and they shit up /v/ pretty badly.
Another problem is people who complain too much about /v/. There doesn't need to be a PC board. There don't need to be any changes to the rules. There doesn't need to be stricter moderation. Everything is good how it already is. These people who demand that the rules be changed to silence those who have different opinions are a big problem here.
tl;dr - The anti-free speech crowd and the stupid little kids who can't handle different opinions are the biggest problems on /v/.

Think for a moment how a real-life society works. Why do you think immigrants who come to another country aren't given a citizenship right away?

I'm not too familiar with the whole story, but it seems like when that game Indivisible comes up that's being funded on Indie gogo, everyone complains that the main character is brown. Am I missing something, or does that shit not make a damn bit of difference in a game? I also hate people who use "fun" as a legitimate argument that a game is good. It's fluff, it means nothing, say WHAT'S fun about the game. "This game is fun because the recoil and feedback from firing different guns makes each one feel unique, meaning you get more than a simple damage upgrade or shot distance downgrade when you switch weapons." "This game is fun because overcoming its harsh difficulty and intelligent enemy AI gives me a greater sense of satisfaction when I accomplish." "This game is fun because the tight controls and fluid level design lend itself to the fast-paced twitch gameplay." Just saying "but it's fun" means nothing and if you can't properly explain why something is fun to you then you don't really have anything to say at all. Call of Duty can be fun, Dwarf Fortress can be fun, Spacechem can be fun, Flappy Bird can be fun, there's barely any relation between any of these games but them being "fun" means they're shielded from any sort of criticism unless you're some kind of no fun allowed movie-game-loving NAZI.
