Warcraft (pre cata) is a great universe.

Not super expanded or fictional, but I always liked ghost recon story / fiction.

Hmm massive scale, not many games have massive expanded back stories. I guess w40k, just because someone else will say it.

Destiny is too boring for me to discover more about it.

Warcraft lore has always been tripe. But it's fun tripe. This is coming from someone who has played every game, read nearly every book, and has discussed this shit on different boards/sites enough for two lifetimes.

If Blizzard didn't have the best goddamn art team in the business, I'd have stopped caring long ago.

Fuck everything about WC1&2 being superior lore-wise. That shit was a cliche Warhammer knockoff meant to be nothing more than a vehicle for the RTS gameplay. "Evil orcs and noble humans" is not good world building. I'll take magic crystal-worshiping space goats and demonic portal spaceships over that medieval fantasy bloat any day. At least that's cool to look at.

I read one of them once. Once was enough to convince me that gaming books are shit and trap for retard fans.

It's not well-written, the lore isn't very expansive or thorough and it sure as hell isn't original.

However, it's purposeful (a good variety of memorable villains you'd like to defeat, noteworthy heroes you'd like to meet/fight with/control, varied factions to play as, cool locations you'd like to visit, enough history to give context to current events but little enough for everyone to easily digest, that kind of stuff), it's "cool" (be it steampunk tech like gnomish submarines and gyrocopters, renowned holy warriors like Turalyon and Uther, demonic magitech or eldritch Old Gods) and I like the classic Warcraft aesthetic.

since wow hit blizzard has been really good at world building and lore, but terrible at telling a story. So while the universe became a lot more interesting with all the detail added in wow, ever since the tBC they've been telling really bad stories, and its really started to hurt the universe.

interestingly enough, it used to be the opposite. WarI-II had good stories, but weren't that interesting as far as a world/lore went (shitty version of Warhammer Fantasy)

Warcraft to WoTLK was great lore IMO
