Tries to be different by having you not take damage when under fire instead the enemy chance of hitting you with gunfire increases as you spend time out of cover then you just die. The cinematic kills are broken. I've got some bad news, anon... It's still in Early Access. Been so for at least a couple years.
They replaced the physics engine some time last year with a more accurate one, but it fucked up the feel of the game and they have been slowly fixing it up since then.
I haven't played it 6 months ago except to fuck around with the lawnmowers since so I can't say how it handles right now.
It is in fact as hilarious and crashy as it looks though.

The thing is the recoil doesn't work the way it should. The recoil and physics of the gun itself should be the cause of the spread.

This is just how guns work, this is what makes them reliable tools in combat, it's a big part of learning how to become proficient with firearms.
You can almost guarantee that as long as the gun is held on a completely stable platform where all recoil is absorbed, the bullets will all reliably follow almost the exact same trajectory up until a good 200m with minimal deviation.
The guy you're talking to has said he's using scrips to completely account for the recoil effects in the game, but this doesn't eliminate the spread at all. The cone isn't based on predictable physics, it's based purely on RNG.
