I picked up my PC and threw it at the wall when I lost at dota once. It actually survived apart from the hard drive and the case.

I played a lot of CS as a kid and used a desktop microphone to rage into when I got mad, and I had some pretty severe anger issues
One time I boiled over completely and felt like I needed to punish myself for being so bad so I grabbed the desktop microphone by the long bendy plastic end and smacked myself in the head with other end, the one with the heavy and hard stand, which effectively caused it to act like a spring baton.
Long story short I gave myself a concussion and my short-term memory got permanently fucked in the process.

I got really fucking mad playing THUG because I couldn't seem to get past that level where you have to hold onto the back of the car and ramp over the cop cars to get to the next area.
I slammed the controller against the floor like four times and I guess a screw came loose after the first hit, but was smashed back into a *wrong* place after the second/third, because there's a huge gap in the left handle thing, but other than that it worked fine.
I also did the same thing to a wired 360 controller like a night after I bought it, but I had already thrown away all the receipts and shit so I couldn't exchange it. That made me madder than the game did.

Once when I was maybe 9 or 10 I was playing TMNT 2 Battle Nexus on my ps2 and I was trying to get all the red coins or whatever to get a gem that unlocked more moves or something. I kept fucking up over and over and missing the same coin, but I eventually got it. Of course, I missed the one right after that coin and bit the left stuck in anger, causing it to not center and stick really badly when tilted down and to the left.
I still have that controller, serving as a constant reminder to not get pissy over vidya like that ever again.

I rarely get upset or angry at a game itself, if I start feeling frustrated or like I'm just beating my head against a wall I'll put the game down and come back to it later when I'm calmed down and better focused.
I tend to get angry at people playing the game rather than the game itself. Watching people fail the same event/fight/mechanic time after time after time and not learning and adapting is frustrating as all hell.
Only time I've ever damaged something vidya related due to anger was my keyboard. Got an out of the blue call from my mom saying my brother was in jail accused of rape, assault and attempted murder of his wife. After I hung up I slammed my fists down onto the desk, destroying my keyboard.

It may be a confusion over terminology. There's a difference between "beating" and "spanking" in the minds of most people.
I know for a fact that spanking (or "beating" if you want to call it that) works perfectly well on some kids, maybe even most kids. I know, however, from personal experience, that it doesn't work at all on other kids, and can actually make it worse.
I was one of the latter. All beating me did was taught me to be sneaky and devious when I did what I wasn't supposed to. It didn't stop me from doing it, and in fact I ended up just doing it more to mentally spite them for what I thought of as unfair treatment. Had my parents actually bothered to teach me why I shouldn't do said things, I probably would have never done them again, and I wouldn't have felt that ere of spite toward them over it.
At age 9 I went to live with my aunt. Her method of punishing me was not to beat me, but to take away all my video games and television watching ability. And it worked. It took one time and I never did what I was being punished for again.

i still hit myself when i get angry at games. not around people, of course, but if i'm alone in my apartment and i get upset enough i'll hit my head. not straight up punching, but hitting it pretty hard with my wrist or palm. it's so fucking autistic and i hate that i want to do it.
i don't even do it all the time when i'm angry, only in specific situations. like if i'm playing an online game and i lose because of a stupid decision i made or if it's something out of control like lag, that'll drive me up the wall. i've tried stopping myself and for about 8 months i managed to stop myself from doing it. but then it feels like i'm just bottling it up and that feels worse. i've tried hitting a pillow too, or hitting inanimate objects that are okay to hit. it doesn't give me the same release that hitting myself does. i don't understand why.

You don't know what a strawman is. I didn't say anything about breaking things meaning you 100% will assault people. Having a lack of self control is extremely evident when angry because of how powerful an emotion rage is. Lack of self control is indicative of bad behaviors all around. Breaking shit when you're angry also indicates a violent person at heart. No one should have to fear getting you upset because you might decide to get violent.

Getting angry is a normal human emotion, and is in fact part of the overall life experience. To repress peoples' anger will actually just make them bottle up their emotions and eventually some people end up going on shooting sprees, beating the shit out of someone, raping someone, etc. There is nothing wrong with feeling angry, and actually, when you lose in a game, especially if you've lost a lot of time, a rare item, etc. the appropriate and expected response is anger.
When someone loses in this same manner, and their response is to go "Haha, that's ok, it's just a video game :^)", that is actually a very sick, very repressed, very pro-social response, and I wouldn't put it past that person to eventually go kill a bunch of people. The fact that society is demanding that sort of response out of people when something bad happens to them is causing people to delude themselves, warp their consciousness, and bottle up their emotions.
It's clearly better to just let your emotions out and smash a controller to pieces or something, rather than lying to yourself and pretending that you're not mad, just for the sake of a silly societal norm that leads to more passive-aggressive and mentally disturbed people. It doesn't actually harm anyone and you can just go buy a new one. It's literally a non-event.

I remember trying for hours on this one route that unlocked before you got the elite license that forced you to take a very specific route of shortcuts throughout the mountain area and it was a complete ballbuster.
