The worst part about Fallout 4 isn't the graphics.
The worst part about Fallout 4 isn't the gameplay.
The worst part about Fallout 4 isn't the writing.
The worst part about Fallout 4 is the sheer, unadulterated, unrepentant railroading throughout the entire game. It's a common complaint about Telltale that your choices don't matter, but this game does away with choices entirely. You do what Bethesda tells you to do and you don't get a choice. Wanna tell Piper to fuck off and just enter Diamond City? Too bad.
>>
Aside from the 5 or so people who like to shit up /v/ with their Fo4 shilling, you're really preaching to the choir here, bro

In which rpg you can do whatever you want? I really want to know.
>>
>>318336168
It's not so much being able to do whatever you want, as being able to do what you want within the context of the game. Something FO4 sorely fails.
>>
Is it really railroading?

New Vegas tried to steer you on a certain path which results in you encountering the major factions in addition to great side quests while all together serving as a satisfying chase of Benny, but you can just fuck off with a stealth boy and go straight to Vegas. With 4 it just feels like there's nothing else to do outside of Goodneigbor and a few odd quests like Covenant, Silver Shroud and the robot boat one.
>>
>>318336218
Yeah so let me rephrase that, in which rpg I can do anything within the context of the game?
>>
>>318336614
That would take someone more versed in RPGs than I to really answer, my best guess would be Planescape:Torment or Daggerfall

uhh actually fallout 4 has the richest choices and variety in playthroughs than any fallout before it

every conversation gives you dozens of options and choices that radically change the outcome of every quest in the game

Murderhoboery at its' finest.

Turn the main plot into them running away frrom the consequences in the form of the wizard's apprentice or something

Are they retarded or something? Maybe you should run a Black Crusade game instead, they'll have no trouble appeasing Khorne.

I meant more along the lines of the apprentice getting power and going full Guts on their ass.

They want combat, they should get combat. Doesn't mean there's no room for escalation of events.

Everyone complains that you can't see exactly what you're saying and then the mod makes it worse.

Fuck.

Why do you think Bethseda used "HATE NEWSPAPERS" and "SARCASTIC" to describe each audio line? To try to hide how shit the dialogue is. This mod just exposes their ineptitude

I've played this game for a few hours, and only done about 4 quests so far, but I have to say, this game is really fun and a lot better than 3. Granted not as great as NV, but it's close to it.

The only real complaint I have with the game so far is the dialogue wheel. Two of the shit you can say are generally the exact same thing, and I don't understand why they did this.
Sometimes it seems completely unnecessary to actually respond back to these people.

I guess they wanted to give your character more depth instead of being silent and all, since they talk now, but a little more variety would have been nice.

>Dogmeat getting the cryloator

I got to try this
>>
Since people are sort of talking about crpgs in this thread, which one is the best?
Should I get Planescape: Torment?
>>
>>318336168
Fallout 1

Fallout 2

Morrowind
>>
>>318340982
This *really* pisses me off. Having only one or two dialogue options is bad enough even when it's right out in the open. But what Bethesda is doing in FO4 is downright insulting. They make every dialogue choice appear to have four options, then use summaries to hide the fact that they're actually all the same. They probably figure that since most people won't do repeat playthroughs, no one will ever know the difference.

Dumbing the game down was bad enough, but this is just blatant disrespect for the player. It's practically fraud.
>>
>>318342327

Baldur's Gate is the standard most CRPGs are judged by

>>
>>318342274
Depends, what are you looking for when you say cRPG? It's a diverse genre.

P:T is pretty much a plot game. There's shitloads of reading, but it's worth it in the end if you don't have ADD.

If you wanna difficulty and a thick atmosphere, Gothic 2 with expansion.

Or if you want to experience Bethesda when they were good, Morrowing with the Overhaul mods.
>>
>>318342796
I want a game that really gets me immersed into not really the story specifically but my character. I guess something that gets as close to the spirit of pen and paper rpg's as possible. I have enough games that I can play for gameplay purposes, like dragon's dogma or fallout new vegas, so I just want something that lets me roleplay.
>>
>>318342957
Torment is extremely character-centric but your RP options are somewhat limited - always a male, immortal and so on.

There are some good NWN1 modules, like The Aielund Saga or Prophet that have heavy plot focus and feel very much like a game of D&D
>>
>>318342626
I guess so. Really, when they pull shit like this, I don't really see anything ethically wrong with just pirating the game.

What really gets to me about this one issue is that there is no explanation for it other than a cynical attempt to deceive people. All the other stuff - voiced protagonist, simplification, whatever - can all be explained as going for broader appeal. I still don't like it, but at least they're honest about it. Fuck this deceptive bullshit. Someone really needs to make a review that calls this shit out as an insult to the consumer.

>>318343238
I've recently started playing Age of Decadence, and that's very character based.

You should totally look into that
>>
>>318340050
Should spin that shit into an entire campaign.
>>
>>318342957
Try Unrest, Mask of the Betrayer, Alpha Protocol, Ultima VII, and Heroine's Quest.

>There are some good NWN1 modules, like The Aielund Saga or Prophet that have heavy plot focus and feel very much like a game of D&D

The Aielund Saga is fun, and does have a focus on plot, but it's fairly limited in terms of roleplaying. I wouldn't recommend Prophet at all. It's well done on a technical level, but that's the best I can say about it. The plot is excessively grimdark and also extremely predictable. It's just the same "twist" happening over and over again.

I'd still recommend NWN1, though. There are a lot of good modules for it. I recommend Tales of Arterra.
>>
>>318343896
I only got into NWN recently, so apologies for shit taste.

How long is ToA and does it support multiple players?
>>
>>318344165
It's pretty long. Probably at least 20 hours or so for both parts. It's been a while since I played it, and saved games don't show playtime, but my character was level 22 by the end of it. I don't know how well it handles multiple players, though. I only play single player.

I didn't mean to come across as insulting. I did enjoy The Aielund Saga, it's just Prophet I have a problem with.

Just found it on Vault, and apparently it doesn't. A shame, since ATM I'm binging modules with friends, roleplaying on the way.

Still, that's one more game to play, thanks anon.
