Yeah definitely. Controls take a while to get used to, but after, lets say 30-60 minutes, it will feel very natural. Great games, both of them. System Shock 2 has also fanmade campaigns available, which are toptier. Begin with Ponterbee station

Endless Legend is pretty good. I have 22 hours of playtime in it already having bought it 3 days ago.
The main draw of it compared to civ is that most factions play completely differently. The best example of this is the Broken Lords, who use dust (money) for food.
If I had to give a negative on this game (to avoid giving it "dicksucking praise"), the combat is a clunky turn-based system which gets kinda boring if you have multiple battles going on.It's treason

I enjoy elite dangerous, but it's definitely 'sandbox syndrome'. There isn't any real direction to it, and you do tend to just do small quests that are randomly generated to keep you busy. You have to kind of make your own fun.

I got it on GOG when it came out, it's pretty good honestly but there isn't that much variety in the combat (which makes sense given the setting). It's a western version of x-com with a bigger focus on narrative and is probably the best mix of those two you'll see

I've played like 700 hours of it already... mostly solo but sometimes with tribe.
I was getting really bored with gaming until I randomly bought it and got totally addicted.
It's the kind of game where your experience is highly variable depending on the server you play with depending on the settings, mods, and players there, so 'shop around' and find a good server (or play solo local if you really want).
It has crazy modding potential too.
The devs are very active (more than in any game ive ever played desu) and major updates are coming out weekly with new dinos, items, optimizations, plus random fix and balance patches almost every day

Jedi Academy is great. The characters and story aren't quite as good as Outcast but the graphics and gameplay are a little better.

It's great. Some random faggot in the steam reviews said it best in my opinion "...feels like an amalgamation of XCOM, Sunless Sea, Desperados & Quentin-Tarantio-movies."
My only gripe is the campaign is seperated into chapters and to get items to carry over you have to play a certain way which removes a bit of roleplaying potential in the overworld screen.
Other than that it's a 10/10 and I'd have gladly paid more for it.

King's Bounty: The Legend is a reimagination of the 1990's classic. Created by a Russian development team, Katauri Interactive, it provides steadfast Soviet quality with high production values.
Similar to the original, you pick up a single hero to go for an adventure and gather an army to fight for you. There's a lot of variety in units, covering your basic fantasy creature catalog in addition with different humanoid races, such as elves and dwarves. Creating a balanced army is a challenge of its own, for instance, if you ought to mix undead or demon units with humanoid soldiers and alike, the latter will lose morale and will to fight alongside those horrid monsters, unless you pick up traits to boost their bravery.
The battle mechanic is safe and familiar turn-based with hexagon tiles, while moving in the overworld happens in real time. There's a vast option of spells either to boost your own units, alter the battlefield or spread havoc among your enemies.
The game comes with an interesting marriage feature, where you can wed one of the female characters you meet and eventually have babies with her. Your wife and your children will provide different bonuses and she can also wear artifacts for you. If you break up with her, she will take a certain percentage of your gold and take away your children. Just like in real life! For all of you necrophiliacs in here,there's a zombie girl you can marry.
The world is huge. I mean, it's like freaking huge. You perform quests and come across with a lot of NPC encounters, which sometimes has different outcomes depending how you answer to them. There's a surprising amount of dialogue to read. Countless of dungeons and caverns are waiting for you to be explored. Even purifying a cursed object is a fight sequence of itself.

Elite: Dangerous is a weird game, not necessarily for everyone. Space transport is an option, but I have been playing for a year and have barely fucked with it. I have done more combat-oriented things, and most people will agree the combat is damn satisfying. Exploration is also an option, and you can see some pretty cool shit.
Part of the point of Elite is the immersion in the space atmosphere of the game. I guess think of it like the /v/ threads about Space Engine, except actually having a ship, dealing with pirates and such.
I'd say it was still well worth it when it was $60, but that's just me, not everyone has liked it that much. Most people that bought it on this sale and just started really are enjoying it though. There is a new expansion that comes out in December, and it will be $60 and also give you everything in the base game.
That does seem silly to buy the base game on the sale right now and potentially pay another $60 for the expansion, but honestly if you just want to make the small investment and try it for a while and see what you think, then decide whether or not you want the expansion, I don't think it's a bad deal. Especially since the game has enough content to keep you busy for about a year, so you can probably wait and buy the expansion at your own pace.

I bought KotOR 2 and that's it. The new Steam patch is fantastic, no more fiddling with mods just to get it to run. I'm probably going to grab Empire at War, I never actually played it but it looks great and I'm on a big Star Wars kick right now. I've got $25 on my Steam wallet left over from a giftcard earlier this year, but there's is virtually nothing I can find that I'm interested that's heavily discounted or not a pre-order.
I'm tempted to get Wolfenstein after how much /v/ has been ranting and raving about it, but how long is it? Last time I bought a singleplayer FPS it turned out to be incredibly short and not worth $10.
Anyone know when the Gog winter sale usually starts? I'm debating which games to postpone buying to see what Gog offers.

Not sure what you mean by that. It makes a lot of changes; buffing religion, improving AI, better city state diplomacy, reworking the happiness mechanics, buffing weak civs with better abilities, too many to list.
I'd pirate endless legend first and see if you like it, it's very different from civ.

Theres no official support for battlefront 2 multiplayer anymore, but theres a third party thing you can get for old games where you can still get some good servers plus there is a big community patch. Also you can force antialiasing and stuff in your graphics drivers to make it look pretty good.

Civ5+DLC is really good. It was my first 4X, bought it a couple years ago and have about 120 hours in it.
Now I bought Endless Legend this sale but only played it an hour, only because I don't have time. But it looks like it will be cool.
Basically from what I gather, they're both equal in quality, you just switch over to the other when you get bored.
I say Civ5, but consider whether you want something more historical like that or fantasy like Endless Legend. I rather liked the familiarity of Civ5, so it might be easier since you already know a rifleman is gonna be more powerful than a swordsman so it's a bit easier to learn.
