Why haven't they brought it to Wii U? I imagine the Gamepad would work very well with the item box and crafting.
>>
>>318293238
Why would Microsoft want to invest time and money releasing one of their games on a direct competitor's platform especially when that platform has a minuscule install-base and is on the way out?
>>
>tfw beta 1.73

Literally perfection. Just went downhill from there.

Alpha was a beautiful thing.

I spent so many endless hours just digging a hole and building a giant fortress full of storage rooms.

Dwarf Fortress has managed to give me the feeling that MineCraft used to on a broader scale. So, I guess i don't care that MineCraft was ruined.
>>
What went so terribly wrong?
>>
>>318294475

Hunger and easily regenerable health.
>>
>>318294475
Nothing. It was the game's destiny to turn into cancer. The concept is far too similar to Lego and the art style is too childish which is why it attracts lots of children. These children slowly poisoned the community, making the adults leave. Now it's about 90% children. And anyone who knows just a little bit about business knows that the customer dictates the market which is why Minecraft adapted to the desires of prepubescent children.
>>
>>318293042

"this is the Lego game that Lego should have made if they weren't fucking around making Lego versions of popular movies"

Yeah, because it's not like those children are going to grow up to be adult consumers or anything.

You really can't compare a franchise built around movies to a video game. A game like Minecraft will always get updated while movies like Star Wars only get released every now and then. It's easier to get bored of a game.

I swear to God when I first started playing there was this weird pre-made little wooden shed/house. I always thought it was normal until many years later I posted about it and anons said there was no such thing.

It was really weird and I know nobody will ever believe me. Only one who saw it also was my friend but he's dead.

I've done so much research trying to find another example but there isn't anything.
Makes me wish I can go back in time and save that world or something.

Just remember, you all paid with your own money for an unfinished alpha version game and Notch is now sitting in the most expensive mansion in LA fucking hot girls every day and laughing at your stupidity.

Notch didn't know what he wanted, so he threw a bunch of "ideas of a game" into it. A survival game, an adventure RPG and legos all into one sandbox.

He then never stuck to any one of these ideas and let them fester as incomplete tumors.

Think about the gameplay progression of minecraft for a moment

>Game starts out as survival
>Fine food, hide in dirt
>Build a house, build a farm
>survival ends here, nothing that spawns at night can do shit anymore
>Game clumsily enters adventure state
>mine up resources with the goal of decking yourself out in rpg gear.
>Go explore shit and find "dungeons" that all look the same with random rewards
>go into the nether with the goal of making potions
>Then go find the fortress to enter the end and kill the ender dragon

There is no direction here, it's just a garbage bin of ideas of what the game could have bin.

The question is, what should it have been? should it have been a randomly generated adventure game with loads of dungeon types and biomes? Should it have been a survival game where you must build and protect territory? Should it simply have been virtual legos with loads of mechanics ?

There are Sponges in Survival now, but you have to loot them from Ocean Monuments, a relatively new feature.
And to even survive in those, you'll have to do a metric ton of enchanting and potion brewing thanks to the fact it's underwater, you get Mining Fatigue until the "bosses" are killed and the mobs in there, Guardians, can attack from afar.
>>
>>318294475
Once all of the game mechanics of minecraft survival mode have been mastered, there's not much else to experience.

I remember back during the days before regenerating health, I was extremely terrified of the opposing monsters, and had built overworld lighted tunnels so that every path I walked had no possibility of a monster coming from behind or front. Each piece of ore and block felt very precious as it wasn't a matter of finding them, but a challenge to return back to my fortress in order to see their safe storage. Every cobblestone block felt valuable as it was another contribution to my stronghold's defense against monster spawns.

Now, much has changed. Monsters don't feel very threatening anymore. I knew how to better handle the monster encounters, and thus every monster in the game felt non-threatening. I got better at finding ores, which resulted me making a set of iron armor, a luxury which before I felt was not worth the cost of the work it took to get the materials, now able to be made en masse with little effort. Most of my minecraft sessions would begin and end with myself digging a straight line at layer 12 in search for diamonds, as there's fewer methods for more efficient diamond harvesting. At this point in time, my time with minecraft felt more of a combat against luck rather than combat against monsters and the wilderness.

Not satisfied with endless existence unchallenged, I decided to try a new idea: beat the game from start to finish without ever settling into a house or sleeping in a bed once. I deemed this challenge the nomad run. It proved to be very fun. The tension of defeat had once again returned, and I felt thrills from survival mode again, however...

I ended up completing my nomad run challenge. Several times.

After each subsequent run, my feelings of tension lessened. Just like my sessions where I dug endlessly for diamonds, these nomad runs felt like I was at the mercy of luck rather than my survival skills.

Eventually I would cease playing the game altogether only returning to play survival mode online with friends in realms. This proved fun for a while, as I felt building impressive collaborative buildings was far more fun than the grind for survival. Knowing that something I made would be seen and judged by someone else felt more interactive and unpredictable of an experience.

This led to some frustrations, as my friend always desired to completely abandon our current world and start over again. I would tolerate this for a while, but eventually I no longer could tolerate seeing my creations that I had spent hours on making in a multiplayer server disappear.

After another period of minecraft hiatus, I would approach the same friend again, and suggest playing the game again, except this time in collaborative creative mode.

After that session was experienced, I had came to the conclusion that creative mode was the only gamemode left for me in minecraft. The only joys I am able to experience with the game is building megalomaniac sculptures with blocks, and creative mode allows me to do that uninhibited. The way I see it, the combat and exploration in its vanilla state has its limits, but creating structures with myself and others I feel has limitless possibilities.

In conclusion, I don't think anything with minecraft has went terribly wrong, I think that players have become exceedingly skilled with the game, resulting in a stagnant experience. The game has not changed, you have simply gotten better, and there's nothing left that minecraft can challenge you with.

Give it an actual "base" to build off of. The biggest issue I see with minecraft is that there's no direction for it to go besides a glorified building simulator. Maybe focus more on the "mine" part of the game and add in some sort of gemcrafting system, where you can go and dig up certain minerals and work with them to create powerful jewels to socket into armor or something. You could combine jewels to power them up and create all sorts of combinations of abilities. Something like that.

This is literally because only because Forge got popular. Back in Beta I think you need both Forge and Modloader but only for a few mods, then one of the Forge devs integrated Modloader into it and basically told the Modloader dev to fuck off. Imagine if, while playing alone but connected to the internet, you'd occasionally stumble across stuff made by other players. Like, maybe a player puts an item on a structure and draws some lines to show the game what part of it is the player's creation, and then that spawns in other players' games. Taking stuff from it wouldn't affect the creator's game, it would just be a copy. So you could leave resources for other people to find, or traps to screw over other players, or you could just make a cool building or whatever for other players to stumble across, to make the world feel more alive and less random.

It clashed with what people wanted minecraft to be.

Notch decided to see if minecraft could be a survival game and added a hunger system, which inhibited exploration.

This offended the people who wanted to just build shit, because they now had the arbitrary task of securing food. But it really offended the people that wanted minecraft to serve as randomly generated adventure rpg, because a hunger meter would impair exploration.

It shifted the game's direction.
It went from "Do whatever you want, but be careful not to get hit" to "nigga, go build a hut, now make a farm, now do this and that and kill the dragon"

Too much is forced for the played to do to have a good time. You can't just chop wood and build houses, you also have to constantly worry if your hunger is high enough.
Minecraft isn't about survival. It's about mining and crafting. If you want survival go play Don't Starve

If you want something more challenging than your Nomad run, try UHC mode. You disable health regen, which makes it so you can only heal using golden apples until you make it far enough to get potions.
It makes every bit of damage count, so you have to actually measure risk/reward for everything you do. Being careless will lead to death, or a total depletion of resources.

Yeah the early build caves were great, that's one of the things I miss the most. The crap we got now just seems forced. Nothing seems randomly generated anymore its all "Well this set of things is here where it was before a million other times...ok".

The problem with MC was that Notch kept on adding half-assed shit. "Dude like you know what would be cool? RPG things and stuff."
- Exp, doesn't fit in a exploration/sandbox game, which was what MC was
- Achievements, half-assed and don't even work
- Potions, RPG element that doesn't fit
- Nether, one of the "hey i bet this is cool" things of when you thought of it but later released it's retarded
- Etc, I can understand he probably thought "that's probably cool to add" at the spur of the moment but later realize it's actually not and then can't remove it
What he should have done was create a menu the player can choose "do i want floating island gen, hunger, exp, potion, etc"
It's a shame, MC had a lot of potential but now it's permanently ruined.

I mean, honestly, a better thing might be to build on the geology of the maps. Like, make more interesting types of stone all over instead of just pockets of random weird looking rock. Make things in layers and shit. Also, just ad more weirdness to map generation. more verticality, more places that are non permissive to traditional farming and building. Make biomes make sense near eachother. Meaning, if you're going to have a tundra near a desert, make there be a large mountain range between them. If you want to have a swamp, make it be at the end of a large number of rivers or be at/ below sea level and it should be decently close to large rivers or the ocean. Make oceans have interesting coastal biomes like mangrove swamps and/or high cliffsides. Also make mobs that are adapted to biomes. Zombies are in a different pallete in the snow biomes, spiders have lots of fur in snow biomes. Zombies are more degraded/ rotten in jungles and swamps or are mummies in the desert.
If they just improved on core concepts of the game (enviroments, resource layout) it'd be great.
Also, make trees and plants drop seeds/ saplings naturally over time. I want to see forests grow and spread.

that's really not true in the slightest, I cannot stand singleplayer survival since around beta 1.7, though I wouldn't solely blame the hunger/XP changes like most anons have, instead it's the world generation and dumbing-down of the mob AI that killed the game for me. Also, recent updates have been incredibly slow (over a year's development) with garbage features made to appeal to the new babby userbase that populates the game, and Mojang's habit of not properly patching out issues guarantees that any new feature of the game will be broken for months (and likely never fixed).

The game was never particularly great to begin with, more a new experience in an untapped genre of vidya at the time, but it really is fucking terrible by now, a butchered mess of bugs and poor game design

>white blocks..is that snow?
>mystified at the surroundings. my body shivers at the touch of frost under my feet
>wander around the water's edge, the fog extending too far to see, the world is so open, yet so far from my understanding
>decide to climb a hill to get a better view
>can't see shit captain
>but..i can take dirt blocks!
>i dig myself into the wall of the mountain..punching stone slowly...
>suddenly it's dark. I am alone and cold and dark in a stone hole i punched. This is my home. this is my fate
>from my silent punching comes soft music. i stop. it's calm. I look around, and see the setting sun outside my cave i've built
>the music fades off. I am left with only my thoughts.
>
>There is a growl heard. I nearly jump, i've never heard this sound before! I must be in danger..but where? there's gotta be a way out
>suddenly my home is my prison
>my fists bleed against the stone walls attempting to find the source of the growl, and to avoid it
>minutes pass and i build up the courage to leave my complex
>i lock eyes with a green figure holding it's arms out to me
>we do battle, my weak fists only pushing my attacker away, and he...he comes for me, to end me.
>I am thrown
>the screen shakes violently. I am presented with my score. my nerves slowly recover.
>my face, though twisted in horror, breathes...and begets a smile.

When was the last time there was an update?
>>
this was the last version i ever played. never bought it, only offline mode.
>>

I feel that 1.6_6 was perfection. For me, the piston update was when everything went to shit. 1.6_6 was truly some of the best fun Ive ever had in a multiplayer video game.
>>

July 2013.
Wollay has resurfaced recently, but only to tweet, like songs on Soundcloud, and [probably] beg for money.
>>

God bless the two faggots who built that.
Especially the guy who made the symbol without any preparation or planning.
No member of the /co/ faction will forget your dedication.
>>
>within first hundred to sign up

FLAOT

too bad its shit now, although id bet it be fun with a shitload of mods and friends
>>
>>318318175
Senpai, 1.7.3 was literally just 1.6.6 + pistons and shears. 1.8 was bad because of hunger and the massively fucked up worldgen that still hasn't been fixed
>>
Anyone remember AdventureCraft?
>>
>>318317889
I never really got the appeal of survival singleplayer but multiplayer can be a blast, I have some fond memories of early survival servers I'd hosted with some chumps. I still haven't even started with modding yet so I have all that to try sometime.

Nowadays I dick about with redstone map-making since it's all the devs seem to care about recently and survival's a fucking chore and a broken mess.

>>318318175
I remember 1.6 running like shit on certain GPUs, notably mine at the time, so I'm going with 1.7 still. From what I recall 1.6 was a fairly buggy update, too, which is probably why there were 6 patch releases of it

>>318318628
I remember being interested in the idea but not too thrilled with the execution, whatever happened to it anyway?
>>

>come on /v/
>run into a minecraft thread
>see FLAOT
>realize I'm making a floating island map for my voxel game

cool

>when there is literally no reason for it to update
>>

>whatever happened to it anyway?

Wiki no longer exists and devblog hasn't been updated in over 3 years. Nothing in Minecraft has gotten close to the immersion I got from AC.
>>
is there any fun to be had in floating around in god mode or whatever just building cool shit? I haven't played for a while

Terraria?
>>
>>318319191
That gets old really quickly. Part of the fun of being mortal is that the world is so much bigger than you.
>>
>Try some modpacks FTB
>Have some fun
>Get a little bit deeper into some of the mods
>Some of the mods are just tedious shit for no good fucking reason

This isn't fun.
>>
Is it weird that i want to replay minecraft?

I guess i will wait for the inevitable VR remake.
>>
So what's the best Minecraft clone?

How about the best survival/earlyaccess/openworld/meme game?

I feel like I'm missing out on this meme genre
>>
>>318319884
Just try them all and see which one you like. there's a couple on the wii u too.
>>
indev was comfy 2: beyond comfydome.
>>
>>318319829
can always downgrade to older versions to relive the nostalgia

>>318319884
I don't know if you're trying to be funny or just shitposting but either way I don't get it

>loved the shit out of AC
>decided to try making my own maps
>those smooth as fuck tools
>dat pre-creative mode
>find out you can add fully functional blocks and items using javascript
>learn javascript for the sole purpose of my map
>begin working on it
>come home from college one week later
>laptop is ded
End my life

Mod stopped updating. Dev suddenly disappeared. AC maps began to cease development, never to be finished. Mod died quietly.

Just like so many other mods. RIP
>>
>>318319974
Can you name any of the good ones?

>>318320068
I'm not shitposting, I'm curious. The only ones I've tried are Minecraft and StarMade.

>>
>>318320197
Just buy Terraria senpai

It's been around for quite a long time, and although the lunar event is kinda shit, it's still some fun and comfy times.

> tfw literally no need to decorate your base beyond commieblocks
> you do it anyways, because there's so much stuff to build with and it all looks good
