I enjoy romping around the wastes as much as the next guy, but this is one of the most immersion breaking things in the fallout universe. You mean to tell me it's been TWO HUNDRED YEARS, and we've got high tech factions running around. And people are still living in ruins? The average settler just takes up in these abandoned shacks. Fuck, even in the iron age we had the capabilites to build structures that didnthe look like shit. You're telling me pal are happy with just scavving prewar shit? Beyond the constant, game-breaking bugs, crashes, weapon glitches, and just general shitty programming, there's just so much wasted potential in both the Radiation Storms and the Glowing Sea.

It should have been a place where you fucking NEED a hazmat suit, or a suit of power armor with high rad-resist. Instead it's just a place where you can drop a couple Rad-X and forget there was ever a problem.

It's based around the 50's mindset of what would happen if nuclear armageddon happened as implied by the 50's future aesthetic, pre-bombing. I don't know exactly how it would turn out but I would guess all nukes going off at once would have a very different aftermath than an isolated area affected by a nuke. You also got things like Megaton, where a nuke could still go off, so there could be random explosions going off irradiating the area again.

We got raiders out the asshole so the wanderer sided with Ashur in the Pitt. Its also how they got scavenged power armor

The brotherhood of steel is clearly not nuked to oblivion, so it confirms that the wanderer worked for the BOS and didn't nuke the pentagon.

The BOS have gauss rifles, so the wanderer helped out OA.

Not all ghouls are hardened survivors or even 200 years old. As I recall, only a few of the ghouls in Fallout 3 were actually pre-war. Fallout 4 has more pre-war ghouls but most have relied on the charity of others who are willing to protect them.

Bethesda's issue. Obsidian's games have a lot of primitive housing that isn't ruins based, and the people who do live in ruins don't just live in fucking tin shacks sometimes with literal skeletons sitting around.

To be fair, though, I don't fully agree that they should be on a medieval level of tech as far as architecture goes. The amount of necessary looting and murdering that went on following the bombs dropping completely fucked society, and I could see the ramifications of that lasting a long time. Society as a whole has to get to a place where they have a basic level of trust in one another before large scale building projects can happen. This is why usually the only ones with any real shit are factions large enough to watch each other's backs.

Why would they? Where would all the ghouls to rule come from? Why would they decide to organize?

The larger Ghoul-communities on the westcoast like Dayglow and Necropolis are part of the NCR and the mojave is largely unpopulated Desert without much backround radiation because the bombs didn't really hit the region outside of Vegas itself.

It's never implied, but i would think any human or ghoulified human who wanted to live under a civilized goverment would just head west. Ghouls in the NCR have their own city-states and serve in the Army.

The entire game feels like that.

I'm level 50 with 63 hours played and the only particularly challenging thing I've ran into was the raider with a fatman early in the game. Everything else has just been completely boring.

People bitch about New Vegas having things like cazadores and deathclaws blocking the quickest path to The Strip but holy shit the world is so boring without things like that.

Ghouls in Fallout 1, 2, and in some cases New Vegas are not very strong. They may live longer, but their muscles have wasted away. Hence why ghouls in the first two games are really fucking slow and why some ghoul characters in NV complain about aches and pains. They're not really fit to take over the wasteland if they're slowly degenerating physically.

Bethesda chose to ignore this because reasons, also because fast zombies are totally cool and Fallout should have fast zombies.

/k/ fag here. It is way easier to make stamped metal submachine guns than the complicated pipe guns that are in FO4. Too many things could go wrong with these pipe abominations.

Some perfect examples are the Sten Gun from WW2 and the Mac-10/11.

Customization is nice though FO4.

The problem I'm having with "civilized" ghouls is that they're invariably portrayed as good characters.

Kind of like how minorities in today's world are incapable of being evil, only misguided.

What I'd like to see is a faction of ghouls that are intelligent, civilized but also straight up evil.
No "we were mistreated so it's payback time" angle, no chip on their shoulder, just straight up evil.

Instead the villains of these games tend to just be well-off white people.
