Cursed Chalice also cuts all physical enemy attacks in half, and only four things (counting two bosses) in the entire dungeon use anything besides physical. It's exactly the same difficulty as all the others with the illusion of extra challenge.

Whichever one you want. You could start with Demon's and go forward from there, you could do Dark first and jump around, you could start with Bloodborne and even work your way through backwards. There's the issue, then. Practice it.
I'm not aware that the repeating pistol has any edge in regards to parrying over the other pistols. I used either the Hunter's, Evelyn, or the Cannon.
In general: Timing is key. Try to hit enemies just as they are about to swing. Don't just shoot at them like an idiot; not all attacks can be parried, but most attacks can be reset.

I suck at parrying too and I made it all the way through the Chalices without doing it. It's probably a lot harder that way but if I can do it so can you. Just focus on learning the movesets and when to attack or when to run/dodge.

The good thing about the souls series is the story doesn't necessarily matter too much. Sure, its there in the item descriptions and brief cutscenes, but you can play any of the games and still understand whats going on. I would suggest starting out the the first Dark Souls. The first game, Demon's Souls, has some very questionable design elements.

OP, unlike most of this thread I'm actually going try and give you advice:
The boss is the Flame guy with pointy hat, right?
Wear the Charred Hunter Garb for fire resistance, it won't help much, but may save your life from an attack.
Next up, what is your build?
If it's Skill based then this fight is really easy once you learn to exploit him.
1) Load up on +Visceral Attack Runes, and maybe Bolt Paper. Stand medium distance away. He can do one of two things: Flame bursts, which are easy to dodge or a running slash.
2) When he runs at you, about to attack shoot him, if you are bad at parrying: Get Good, keep practicing until you know when to shoot, once you get the feel for it you'll get it 95% of the time on his running attack.
3) Visceral him, if you have 50 SKL and 30% extra from runes it'll take out a huge chunk of his health.
4) (this is where exploit comes in) after being Visceraled he will ALWAYS do a double slash when he stands up. You can shoot him now and get another visceral, repeat again and again.
5) Once low health he'll buff his sword with fire, you can inteript this and cancel his second form but it's tricky getting to him fast enough. All that changes is his swings cause fireballs now, easy to dodge though.
6) keep baiting his run up and shoot him, then shoot him on his forced recovery swings.
Took me 4-5 Viscerals and a few normal hits.
Layer 2 and 3 get much worse.

Third doesn't count as death as long as you have the Tonsil Stone; same as the DLC transport.
You can also get there after talking to the mummy after The One Reborn.
Last is correct, but leads to an area that you arrive at later anyway, so you're not required to go there asap if you don't need Tonitrus.
