To gather intel on the surface. i don't know why they didn't just create artificial people instead of replacing real ones.

Literally because they think Wastelanders are imperfect and prone to causing conflict, and must be replaced.
Which is why they abduct the top tier scientists. It's natural selection.

Mostly for testing their AI and also for intel. As it turns out the institute is in the process of becoming independent from the surface with their nuclear reactor and the synths as workforce. Their end goal is to rebuild civilization underground.

they wanted to gather info above ground, test the synth's ability to replicate natural human life, and needed fev subjects.
they did it all in one go.

the synths that bugged out and murdered people were malfuntioning.
you even hear a couple scientists acnowledge the face twitching issue in one of the science labs. synth retention i believe.

Why did the Institute make exact human like synths?

Why did the Institute create them to have a sense of self awareness?

What are the Institutes goals?

How can Danse possibly be a synth when it was clearly stated that production on child synths was happening just as the lone survivor was unfrozen? Danse is in his mid 20s-30s and was in the BoS for some time. He had to have been a child synth in the capital wasteland for it to make sense, but child synths weren't even started on back then.

Infiltration units. The real question is why they have Gen 3s cleaning toilets after seeing they act like people and don't want to do this.
>>
>>318228314
Father says they wanted to make the perfect machine and thus decided to base them off human DNA.

Of course then they turn around and insist Synths aren't human.

>>
>>318225908
Wait, don't tell me it's because they are trying to unify everyone into one perfect group of people with no differences in order to bring peace to the wasteland.
>>
>>318228314
>Why did the Institute make exact human like synths?
To discretely operate on the surface without risking actual human lives
>Why did the Institute create them to have a sense of self awareness?
Since Nick is a prototype with a real person's memories, it's likely that they used real human brains as a starting point to create synth ones, leaving things such as will and desire of a byproduct of trying to create an independent machine capable of making its own judgements that can pass as human.
>What are the Institutes goals?
The advancement and perseverance of the human race and all its scientific advancements
>>
>>318228069
No. Fallout 4 is horrifically toned-down. It's basically Skyrim: draugr are ghouls and bandits and super mutants are fucking raiders.

There's nothing disconcerting what-so-ever, which is such a let-down. Hell, Raiders don't even rape and pillage anymore, they just pillage. The scariest thing you'll see are the skele-synths.

Also I might have missed something but that's the ONLY guy actually getting synths out of the institute? He looks about 20 and the railroad has existed for at least 11 years.
>>
>>318228542
I like the technology, maintained underground base, sophisticated/civilized citizenry. But there's just a few tiny changes the sole survivor could make to turn the Institute from an edgy Autistic paradise, to the true and only hope for humanity. All that's REALLY needed is to lose the school shooter vibe they have against the people on the surface, and stop treating gen 3 synths as second class citizens. Gen 3 synths probably have a greater capability than humans for pretty much everything (since essentially they're super optimized synthetic living computers).

Can someone please explain what the institutes actual goals were? Because I feel like it is never really explained in game.

As far as I can tell they want to replace people with Synths since they can't suffer the effects of radiation, which is possibly the most retarded plan ever. What the fuck made them "the best hope for the futureee" as Shaun insisted? (Insisted, without ever explaining).

I swear to fucking god the limited dialog in this game destroyed what could have been an amazing story.
>>
>>318229054
My first step would be do open a History and Humanities board and have everyone learn empathy and nation building.

Next, I'd bring them to the surface and orchestrate some human moments for them to experience.
>>
>>318229360
The lack of exposition in dialog butchers the game. you usually get ONE question per interaction and that's it.

Yeah, Like I get that they don't even treat Gen 3s as human but you'd think they would treat them with some respect considering how technologically advanced they are.

Just saying, you don't clean the toilet with your GX980 when you have a scrubbing brush.

Also, the other thing I don't get is how there was such a stupid jump between Gen 2 and Gen 3.

Gen 2 is basically just white rubber skin on Gen 1 while Gen 3 is basically a human clone but with a few mechanical bits deep on the inside. My only logic is that the white rubber skin on Gen 2s is actually semi biological with a thin layers of muscle or other tissue, which explains how Nick and other Gen 2's create lip and other facial movements.

It's implied that the desire for freedom in rogue synths was given to them by the whiny guy in Robotics anyway, so is that desire genuine or just lines of code acting out?

Which is fucking retarded. Coursers exhibit "independence." It's clear that synths have, at the very least, rudimentary emergent intelligence and self-awareness. They even acknowledge that McDonough has become self aware. Rather than study this intelligence and attempt to draw parallels to human consciousness, they actively deny that there's anything more to the issue and constantly try to shut the "smart" synths down. If you'er trying to "Redefine Mankind," why not actually explore the possibility of replicating the human mind in a perfect body?

ALL of these things occur before you can affect or even witness them. You read about these things that have happened and that's it. Raiders are just people who shoot at you and have armor/weapons that you want.

That has absolutely nothing to do with the gravity of the atrocities raiders commit. There's no story to the gore itself, no recently sacked towns or Vaults that the corpses are coming from. You can't interact with any of those scrubs beyond shooting them, nor can you talk to any of the people they personally harmed. You can't even tell Preston or Murphy you killed Jared.

Nipton was effective because you meet the survivors and talk to the people who destroyed it. You walk through the town and see how people died, fought back, etc. You don't just read about it, you see it. The game actually shows you.

>I've got a ton of issues with the game, but the one I'm talking about deals with Raiders just being an obstacle like someone said earlier. They don't matter. They're literally bullet-sponges. They've got nice little story-bits scattered around and some of them even have names, but you'll never interact with them beyond blowing them to bits. They're so non-existent that their models could be replaced by big, grey rectangles that shoot at you and nothing would change.

and I'm telling you that is standard bethesda game design as well as an across the industry approach to blood filled xp rewards yet you expect something different

anon those were other raiders/scavengers the lady bots says you are the 341 hire on
All most/all of those are people that got stuck like you but failed.
There was only 6 people in that lab but several ghouls, and skeletons.
>>
>>318235187
>institute doesn't make more
>just makes shitty synths that look like humans so they can spy on people jerking off

why not just make synth power armour that is ALSO self aware, and keep doing that until you have giant synth gundams

oh wait because random dumbfuck townsperson #18 needs to be a synth because humanity redefined mumble mumble
>>

Fucking nothing

I can't even remember the plot to Binary Domain. The AI created synthetic humans just to... fuck with humanity? It didn't really have an end goal. Other than be human, I guess.

It's less my expectation and more that it doesn't fucking happen already. I'm pissed.

340 persons got locked in the lab before you. There was only six scientists in the lab when the bombs fells. Most of them are skeletons.

You will never have that raider girl who will beg for her life as everyone dies in front of her. You can take her in and slowly redeem her with the D.
>>
Why did putting a grenade in someone's pocket not blow them up?

Did I mess up or did they remove that?
>>
>>318235008
if you have done Blind Betrayal and he's at a settlement he turns into a mute settler in power armor. He can do chores and be sent places but he won't talk or be a follower.
Same thing happens to the Railroad follower if you kill the railroad gang but have him at a settlement
both will attack you if they are with you when you go to purge their respective group.

They're a stand-in for the illuminati

>super-sekret club organization
>delude others by saying they're doing the best for humanity, but are actually sociopathic and apethetic as fuck to the majority of society
>believe that current society can't be saved, so the want to destroy in favor of a new one where they're top-dog
>synths = cell phones, google, computer trackers, etc for keeping the people in-check
>meanwhile kidnapping people on the sides and turning them into dumb, strong workin-class mutants with the FEV so that they become as obedient as they were with the Master
>continue to do more experimenting with machinery so that they can eventually recreate themselves as bio-synth gods

You could ask the same questions about the illuminati as well. Okay so they want to bring down the population to 500 million and create a new world-order where they're the top-dog while they're at it. Then what?

I think you all misunderstand what I am saying, what actually makes the raiders more scummy in NV from a visual and game-play perspective?

I know you can talk to them on a few occasions but how does that make them more scummy compared to the Fallout 4 ones?
>>
>>318235454
You actually need a perk for it. Lvl 2 pickpocket.
>>
>>318235454
You need level 2 of the perk for it to blow people up.
>>
>There is Mr Handy fuel
>This means that all Mr Handy's eventually deplete their reserves and become inert
>Codsworth is still operating just fine off of the very few canisters of the fuel you had in your house
>Greygarden is operating just fine fueling many, many robots from seemingly zero supplies

Who is producing more fuel!?
>>
>>318235454

It is behind a perk now.

How can there be so many be nitpicking critics like this and not pay attention?
It seems both hypocritical and counterproductive
>>
>>318235539
From a gameplay and visual standpoint, nothing. They're the same.
But games, especially RPGs, can use storytelling and dialogue to add depth. It's why NV, while mechanically not very different to 3, is a far superior game.
>>
>>318235131
I'm sorry but I can't trust the terminals
They go against both lore and there own game

All i wanted to see was a settlement of neutral muties just trying to get by. Or a raider town, with a synth brothel. Or interactions with settlers other than, "i wanna trade something" would've been nice.

Also i expected more weapon variety. I mean weapon modding was extremely simplistic, i really wanted Fo4 to top NV in that department.
