Western indie game developers: beg for money, hype up your product, blog about very facet of development and your personal life, attract a cult of personality, release your game and become a rich internet celebrity.

Japanese indie game developers: spend years working on a project in silence or with occasional (technical) updates, release it, "This is my game. I hope you enjoy it."

Japan makes better video games.
It's just a fact

When was the last time a Japanese indie developer made billions of dollars? Oh wait, that never happened, because Japanese indie developers can't make good games.
>>
>>318211621
I'm guessing you've never gone to comiket. JPN indie games are hyped all the time, and a lot of them release horrifically buggy shit that you'd expect to see in the dregs of Steam.

I asked a Japanese indie dev if they could please add more than one resolution. They said they wouldn't because they didn't want to have to draw everything at multiple resolutions.

Maybe the west does blog and hype it's indies more than Japan does overall, but remember that for every one indie development over-hyping their game there are probably a thousand that stay obscure.
The people you hear about are the ones who are good at marketing, which might mean they aren't as good at game development.

And that's why Japanese indie games are dying, friend. People don't know what the fuck they're getting. The more transparent a company is about their development process, the more likely they are to sell.

The only way for the Japs to make money these days is to have established and time-tested IP's to milk, or to do risque visual novels.
>>
>>318215096
Wow, that really sucks. When did that happen by the way?
>>
>>318215675
indie games hardly ever break even either way.

It still kind of saddens me that most Japanese developers simply don't want to bother with Western audiences.

It's in Japanese culture to be reserved and not try to hassle people.
