It depends on what you do, I agree 100% when it comes to wage slavery or ladder climbing bullshit, any situation where you are working toward someone elses ambitions, but I have worked for/volunteered at charities and other non profits where the work was incredibly satisfying and I never felt like I wasted my time. I think the key is that if you need money to survive, you are better to work on your own terms if possible, if you can't than you owe it to yourself to put every effort into putting yourself in that kind of situation.

Alright, I'm gonna get all LIFE STORY for a second. This might get a little TL;DR, but bear with me.
I graduated high school in 2007, which happened to be the height of the global recession. My plan was to get a part time job to pay my way through college, because that's what literally every adult at the time said I should do, but application after application fell through, and I grew dispondant. On top of that, my parents divorced in the most bloodthirsty, absolutely ugliest way possible, and depression took hold and I slid into the NEET lifestyle.
I lived like that, leeching off my mom and the state for nearly nine years, and in that time, the best jobs I could find were part-time,customer service jobs. Even worked at Gamestop for three months, which absolutely sucked shit.
Eventually, I stopped trying, and I just didn't care anymore. I never had money, so I grew to resent any time I had to spend money on anything, including vidya. I pirated everything. I thought I beat the system.
This past September, I got my first full time job. I work ten hours a day four days a week, and quite frankly, I still don't like it.
But you know what? Even while working four tens, I feel freer and more in control of my life than at any time in the past eight years. I have a cell phone with unlimited data. I have a car. I can go anywhere I want whenever I want.
Also having a job means I have to meter out my time more carefully. Projects that I started years ago, some 3D modeling jobs and a story I've been writing since 2010 are now actually getting done because now I have to actually make sure it's worth my time to do them.
Even with my 40 hours a week at work, I'm doing more, living more, and have more options than I ever had when I was "beating the system"
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying to become a wage slave. But avoiding getting a job simply because of that is doing more harm to yourself than having a decent job ever could.
