Unnethack is pretty darn good, fixes a lot of the flaws with vanilla nethack
its a bit more difficult but that aint a real problem

Beginning aside is pretty casual for its genre and easygoing but that's kinda the selling point.
Going around loaded as fuck with an army of pets pickpocketing everyone and killing the final boss of the first chapter by throwing booze at him just because you can can be fun.

Do you not realize that DOOM was just Carmack and Romero trying to make the ascii rpgs they had been making for years into an action game with proper graphics? Just look at the simpler maps in DOOM, it's plainly obvious. The more complex ones get too detailed to look all that similar to dungeons.

Dwarf Fortress if you want a godly roguelike but it takes a while to get into.

If you want just your cultural reference megamix roguelike, those are it. It's no lie when you can fucking fight godzilla while allied alongside Groo the Wanderer, head into the mayor's basement of some town and find a clone lab headed up by a cloned father dagon, catch a dracolich in a pokeball and then ride that fucker across the sea straight into ry'leh.
And that shit ain't even post-game.
