Will obsidian ever make a good game again now that Josh "the cuc k" Sawyer is at the wheel and godking Mister Christ Avellone has gone full time stretch goal?
>>
Pillars of Eternity was great and the expansion was really enjoyable and cozy, let's hope Part 2 is just as good.

I just hope they don't get jewed into making another Fallout game. Obsidian should be working on it's own IP's, not cleaning Bethesda's mess.
>>
>>318164861
obsidian is definitely never gonna stop taking work for other IPs, that's pretty much what made them who they are. Is alpha protocol and pillars not the only exceptions?
>>
Sawyer could propably make a decent enough turn-based game.
Cain could also lead a project.
They have no writing talent anymore though.

Real decision make is Urquhart, anon. He, for example, doesn't believe a turn-based game would sell and hasn't budged so far in everyone convincing him that yes, they can in fact sell well enough, especially after Kickstarter reignited the notion in more than just a tiny niche. Then again Urquhart is about half the reason why Obsidian still hasn't gone bankrupt so fuck, maybe he does know what he's talking about considering he has both developer and publisher experience.
>>
Why do you dislike based Sawyer, OP? He's as awesome as Avellone.

My dream game is a revival of Van Buren by Obsidian, with Brian Fargo, Josh Sawyer, and Chris Avellone at the helm.
>>
>Will obsidian ever make a good game again
>again

Name 3
>>
>>318167541
No thanks, sawyer is a sjw anyways.

Obshitians Flopout: Snooze Vegas was the worst entry in the franchise.
>>
>>318167650
KOTOR 2, New Vegas, Alpha Protocol, Stick of Truth, Pillars of Eternity.

You'll just say they're all garbage anyway but whatever.
>>
>>318167720
Nice opinion man. Good thing opinions aren't objective facts.
>>
>>318167454
and now they have over 100 people working for them, up from ~30 they had when kickstarter was still up.
>>
>>318167720
Sawyer is based. You're just butthurt he was polite to that twitter tranny instead of being an unprofessional dickhead about it.
>>
Sawyer is a kek sjw? Proofs?
>>
>>318167454
>doesn't believe a turn-based game would sell

Even after Original Sin was released? Yeah, I know it has shit writing, but it sold.

>>318167136
>They have no writing talent anymore though

Sad, but true. I doubt it's just Avellone, it's not like one man wrote all their previous games by himself. But the truth of this shows, writing in Pillars was painfully mediocre and not captivating in the slightest.
>>
>>318167735
Only 2 of those are good games.
>>
>>318164686
>Will obsidian ever make a good game again now that Josh "the cuc k" Sawyer is at the wheel and godking Mister Christ Avellone has gone full time stretch goal?

Sawyer directed NV and it was the best fallout since 2.
>>
>>318168043
I don't fucking know but I don't fucking care, Sawyer is still a great developer and anyone who "drops him" because "MUH ESS JAY DUBYAS are just fair weather fans who aren't worth listening to.

PoE was underwhelming but Sawyer is okay. As long as he's professional enough to keep SJW shit separate from his work, he's fine with me.
>>
>>318167884
They're also once again working on a cancelled XBone launch tile aka supposedly project North Carolina, except it's not longer exclusive and they're re-working it as a result. I wonder if Obsidian dodged a bullet in the long run by getting that contract cancelled.
>>
>>318168110
Out of curiosity, which ones?
>>
Does Obsidian even need Avellone that desperately? The writing in New Vegas was great, and I'm pretty sure Avellone was only responsible for the writing in the DLCs.
>>
>>318168043
I wouldn't say that.
He just tolerates the people asking him questions about social justice shit on his tumblr.
>>
>>318168282
This. Sawyer, if anything, is one of the good SJWs who keeps his personal views separate from his work fairly consistently.
>>
>>318168314
Avellone wrote Dead Money, OWB and Lonesome Road. Sawyer wrote Honest Hearts.
Gonzales, who no longer works at Obs, wrote most of the main game.
>>
>>318165108

It was supposed to be a way to fund their own IP's but they never really took off, which is why POE needed to be crowdfunded (Though South Park did really well for them)

They are allegedly doing an exclusive for Microsoft next after the 2012 one was cancelled, along with POE Part 2. Some french website leaked it than nuked it off the site. Will be interesting to see if it's a new IP or something MS dusted off like Shadowrun or Kameo

>>318168289

Apparently they shelved it for now because no publisher was interested and are doing a different Xbone exclusive.
>>
>>318168401
I don't think you can be called an SJW if you have enough professionalism to keep your political views out of everything you do.
>>
>>318168559
North Carolina was repurposed into Stormlands, it's not MS exclusive.
Dunno who's funding it though, propably Paradox?
>>
>>318167454
I'm not saying avellone made the decisions, clearly if he had his way he'd have more project leads and less administration.
I'm saying that avellonne brought the talent.

>mfw I enjoyed the last two Shadowrun games more than PoE
>>
>>318168110
Alpha protocol was great, but I agree that PoE and Stick of truth were mid-tier.
>>
>>318168401
You need to stop appropriating the 'SJW' buzzword because it doesn't really mean shit outside of referring to radical leftists. It's like now everyone who isn't an absolutely irredeemable horrible human being is all of a sudden an SJW according to 4chan.
>>
>>318167541
>He's as awesome as Avellone
Made my eyebrow twitch m8. I hope he's killed by a million grognards.
>>
>>318168976
the last two Shadowrun games were pretty good though. PoE was just painfully mediocre and generic. It played the genre too safe and didn't do anything to keep you interested. It was pretty much what if Baldur's Gate 1 was made now. Plus the Backer stuff killed it, too many special snowflakes and the Stronghold didn't really do jackshit
>>
>>318169132
I agree, hence why I said "if anything". I hate the sjw buzzword and wish kiddies on /v/ didn't throw it at anyone they don't like.

What are the chances that there was actually drama between sawyer and MCA?
>>
>>318168282
just goes to show that patrolling the Mojave makes you wish for a nuclear winter
>>
>>318168819

Dunno, but Fergus said they had multiple projects on the go and would be expanding the studio recently and the french site was clear the MS exclusive one wasn't Stormlands but a new game.

I wouldn't be surprised if Paradox funding Stormlands as a smaller game and maybe if they are doing something for Microsoft. It's a MS IP (Shadowrun, more than likely).

So any news on whether an Obsidian Vampire game for Paradox is actually a thing or not?
>>
>>318169905
No, you'd probably know if there were, wouldn't you?
>>
>>318169708
Where did he say that? Any links? It's good to hear Obsidian is coming back from the brink.
>>
>>318168976
Shadowrun games were far too simple and RPG-lite for my taste, but still decent as long you mechanically divorced them from Shadowrun you know. Pillars of Eternity was just a bloated mess that still somehow felt too safe and like they could've done literally ANYTHING as their Kickstarter, although people tend to forget PoE wasn't Obsidian's dream game - it was their "this is the only thing that will save us from bankruptcy" game.

>It was pretty much what if Baldur's Gate 1 was made now.

Which means PoE2 should be amazing.
>>
>>318171727

It was an interview on Jeux Video but they nuked the article because they reported the accidental conformation of the xbone exclusive. Likely MS got pissed. It might be a reveal at the dorito pope awards next week or it will be stormlands.
>>
>>318172284
I wonder if that's going to be their next Kickstarter game. Also, let's not forget Paradox now has World of Darkness and I doubt they would've acquired that without some sort of a plan about it.
>>
>>318164686

>>
>>318164686
Well since Avellone hasn't written anything since KotOR2, I'd say yeah, Obsidian are fine.

>Let’s get one thing straight. When Obsidian were touting how this was their “ultimate” game, over which they’d finally have “full creative jurisdiction” that wouldn’t be “blocked by publishers”, I had many things in mind. I had a vision of another Mask of the Betrayer, I thought of a throwback to Icewind Dale, I also hoped for something completely new. What I got instead was a very badly done cargo-cult clone of Baldur’s Gate 1 that mindlessly copies all its flaws while actually dropping the things that made it work, and completely disregarding the 17 years of cRPG history that happened in the meantime.
Spot on.

Think if Obsidian did a Halo game in fallout format
