Alright help me out guys, I wanna play someone who uses knives and shit, you know holdout melee but my dilemma is that from what I know, melee is much better off not using vats yet when I tested through console commands with and without Slayer, I can't even spam left click fast enough to see an increase in attack speed for weapons like Chance's Knife.

But that's the biggest cheat weapon in the game. I don't think there's a single weapon more efficient than it. Gatling Laser and friends might do more damage, but none can give no fucks about ammo or weight like the Laser Rifle+. You can even have mods that have niggers stealing your bikes but that gun is totally replaceable!

Hunting Shotgun rather.
Accurate enough for sniping, effective enough for upclose by just changing the ammo. Strong but not as overpowered feeling as a Riot Shotgun, with a satisfying pump and reload.
Only issue with it is that the ammo is somewhat heavy.

The Legion's subjugation of women is more obvious than the men, but 99% of its citizens of either sex are nothing more than cogs in its machine. Individuals have no rights nor expectation of personal pursuits. Each member of the Legion is supposed to be) concerned with nothing more than fulfilling the goals of their emperor. Even a male character joining the Legion (unless they knew ahead of time that Caesar would realize how special they are, and must remain to continue to be useful) would have to accept that they'd be part of such a society.
That said, there's plenty of people (male and female) that are more comfortable surrendering themselves to a higher group or cause. If your character is yearning for a community to join, and for something that would give them a higher purpose than their individual wants (which could have left them feeling empty and unfulfilled up to now), then it's not unreasonable for them to support the Legion.

I just started playing the caravan DLC (Happy Hearts I think?) and fuck me if it isn't terrible. Shitty native american steriotypes following me around and spouting asinine shit every time we get into combat or complete an objective FUCK OFF. I miss ED-E. So far Graham has been a letdown where I was hoping he'd be a bit imposing or some kind of interesting anti-legion personality. I'm assuming theres some kind of reveal about him though because It'd be really shitty writing on behalf of obsidian if his whole character at that point is just "i'm a big ol crispy christian". Environment is really unnatractive and generally irritating to navigate.

I broadly agreed with you the first time I played it.
Recently replayed it on Hardcore mode, and actually quite enjoyed it though. It's kinda morm-aboo and overfond of its tribals, but the environment is interesting enough, I liked the two NPC companions (who might be kinda limited, but what voice acting and characterization they had was good, I thought) and of course, there's the Father in the Caves.

If you're going unarmed focused get melee to like 65 or something for the perk that lets you knock people down easily
If you're going melee weapon mainly get 70 unarmed for the thing that lets you hit 30% faster.
I've been thinking of starting a new game of this lately but I have one issue keeping me from it - I can't decide on a character. In the pip-boy, place your mouse cursor over what you want to hotkey. Then press 1-9 (excluding 2, as that is mapped to switching ammo types I think) and click. Stimpaks to 1, Rad-away to 3, a gun to 4, etc.

I think it just goes down the list, though there's probably a mod that lets you choose exactly what you want when you press it. Never bothered me much since I don't particularly use different ammo types unless there's something that absolutely needs it.

Can someone explain to me the purpose of DUST mod? I mean, I get the mod's concept (partialy). It removes all the quests and makes everything twice as hard. But what I don't get is that there isn't ONE safe heaven. There are some notes about New Vegas being a safe zone, but turns out its filled with ghouls.
What's the point of turning New Vegas into a cawadooty simulator where you shoot at everything that moves? I'd say 99,99 of the things are trying to kill you, 00.01% are random survivors who you can't interact with.

Just started playing it again and modded it to hell. Tried this mod called DUST but when playing in hardcore it was actually to difficult to even play. I can't count the number of times where I randomly died while walking with an okay amount of food and water having no idea what happened.
So I installed Nevada Skies and the Interior Lighting overhaul mods
Problem is, the game's too fucking dark now. Interiors are super dark unless there's a light source directly around. I don't just mean stuff like vaults, that would be fine. But every single building is super dark inside
And when out in the Mojave it's impossible to travel at night because of how dark it is.

So I have the restoration mods for Freeside and Vegas, but apparently the Freeside one doesn't appear to work while the Strip does. But when I tried to ignore the updates, it caused the walls out of the Strip to vanish into a void.

That's why only the Chinese Stealth Suit is worthy. Even the ass texture resembles Miranda's from Mass Effect, except it's bigger. Course CSS sucks in that you have no option to take off the helmet without taking off the suit, and I haven't been able to figure out how to make those detached helmet mods work with it, it always just overrides and uses the lame default models. You had any luck?

i played in the following order: 3, nv, 1, 2. and i think it was a very good order because you start with the worst one then go to the best one then you can play the classics if you want to.

If you're interested in playing FO3 at all, play it first. The gameplay between the two games seems identical at first but there are quite a few significant tweaks in NV that makes FO3 feel really awkward to play.

The instability you're talking about is CTDs, which are whatever. But all the bugs that get fixed due to community patches still exist on consoles, with the exception that you can't force a quest to advance if it gets stuck, or spawn yourself a quest item that disabled itself.

Obviously NV is the stronger game, but FO3's brand of just wandering around shooting things and looting is by no means unlikeable.
Hating the writing I can understand though. It's a huge headache in 3/4 when you run into two different characters and one sounds like they live in some bullshit fantasy land and the other talks like someone you'd meet in the office on Tuesday.
