You over estimate the influence of the USA vs each local interpretation greatly. In most of hte world, "American pizza" means "pizza hut garbage" and nothing else.

Granted, you are right that US rates haven't IMPROVED, per se, it's just that they're starting to stagnate while most of the first world (Including many EU countries) are still trending fairly substantially up.

Doubtful. I agree that pizza is quintessentially Italian, but I think the world has a bit of a better opinion of American pizza than that, at least in certain parts of the country (NY, Chicago, etc.)

You have to be careful, if you aren't smart about how you travel they funnel you into tourist traps in the cities that have shit tier food while the restaurants the locals eat at are way better.
Of course, the tourist traps don't exist in rural Italy. The best food I had there was in Spoleto.

Of course it is.
Italy didn't even have tomatoes until the 16th century when they were brought from AMERICA! They then used them as fucking decorations for ages until eventually eating them. Italy couldn't even figure out fucking noodles on their own.
