The developers of Skullgrils want to create another game, a side scrolling RPG using 2D sprites. Sounds wonderful on paper, but when you look any deeper, you see all the characters are brown or black, the story focuses on indian or mulsim religious themes, and the female cast of the game are portrayed as strong independent women, with no sex appeal to any of them but one.
This is a complete 180 from their work on Skullgirls and not the game that young men, aka, the people that actually buy games, give any fucks about.
Lab Zero, the developer has been struggling to get crowd funding for their game and has had to resort to; extending the dead line, begging in popular social media sites, and throwing any indie game character from other games that they can get to boost interest.
Personally, they can go fuck themselves with a cactus. It comes off from their past actions like they disdain us, the core audience that bought Skullgirls and helped it succeed.

They rushed the demo, and it shows. If they were smart they would have crowd funded a proper and more fleshed out demo as a proof of concept. Then the game proper if that was well received.
Instead they went straight to the 1.5mil without real proof a market exists for this.
And the thing is there is clearly a very niche market for it but it is small compared to what they were expecting. And 1.5mil might just be too much for that tiny market to float.

Indivisible and Red Ash show two things about consumers and crowdfunding.
If you're a new dev/company with an exciting concept and this is your first crowdfunding campaign, people will happily donate because they see the promise.
But if you're double dipping like Lab Zero or Inafune people will tell you to fuck off because quite frankly the whole point of the first crowdfunding campaign should've been that you don't need to crowdfund the second time round.
If you don't have the money left after your first game then you're clearly shit with money and shouldn't be trusted.

I like some of the characters. They seem nifty. But the rest just look like someone got on tumblr and started making a list of things that 'need' to be included for diversity.
In an of itself not so much an issue if the gameplay is there. But they haven't shown us that it is. So no sale for many people.
If people want to fund it to push diversity then more power to them. But clearly that isn't really panning out either. And their fanbase has been pushing that angle for a while. It should have worked by now if the money was there.
Plus one thing I absolutely fucking hate with a passion is a game like this that tells you all the potential characters to begin with. It ruins part of the mystery of finding out who you might get when playing.

Hell, I still personally believe they went with IGG over Kickstarter not simply because of the "better treatment". Kickstarter is a fixed 30 days funding, while IGG can go up to 60. There's no way in fuck this sort of project could have been done on Kickstarter as a result. Crowdfunding's entire purpose in the beginning was to allow products that would never normally be made to be made. Not only that, but it allowed these products to be made with no worries of a publisher altering the product to "appeal to a wider audience". It also allowed only the good products to succeed, because the bad products would not get funded.
However, crowdfunding now is simply being used as a supplement by greedy publishers/developers. In the case of Indivisible, it is very clear that the only reason crowdfunding is being used is because of both 505's and Lab Zero's greed. The game COULD have been 100% funded by a publisher, but Lab Zero got greedy and wanted to keep the IP for themselves so they could potentially milk it at a later date. 505 got greedy because they knew they could rely on crowdfunding (or Lab Zero's wallet) to minimize their risk while still raking in profits from game sales.

They have asked for money when they already had it. The premise of crowd funding is that you are asking for money you don't have. It can be seen as a conflict of interest on that.
As for the second part, it has nothing to do with the publisher. That is an outside factor. We are only discussing them chipping into their own asking amount of 1.5mil. And if they already had some money, then why did they ask for a larger amount than they need?
It is an ethical minefield that can come back to bite them in the ass if they do chip in themselves at the last moment.

Because it's not actually funding as much as it is pre-buying. You're not an investor and you don't have the legal status of an investor. That hasn't changed since the early days of kickstarting, and the customer is still treated the exact same. You're being extremely irrational, your 60 dollars don't entitle you to royalties, sorry. You seem to be missing my point. Why should a consumer have to foot the bill for a developer? If this was the old-fashioned crowdfunding where the developer relies 100% on crowdfunding to make a game, I'd have no problem. My issue is when you throw in an outside publisher or other source of income. That muddles the the original intention of crowdfunding, and it makes me question why the developer simply didn't get 100% of its funding from the publisher, take out a loan, or cough up the money on their own.
As I said, I expect full investor privileges if I help fund you game, much like how a publisher has full investor privileges (gets to see profits, etc).

They also promised better backgrounds with the same feel as lenneth.
For a vp clone that its proud of being a clone, I dont see anything wrong with it, if they can deliver a gameplay on par with valkyrie profile, why hate the game?
I get that some people hate the character designs, but the gameplay was always the best part of vp, if they can deliver the gameplay I dont mind the characters that much.

the fact that you have an irrational apprehension towards the model doesn't invalidate the model. I get your point full well, but what you're failing to understand is that your subjective interpretation of what constitutes a percieved perversion of your vision of the intent of the model doesn't constitute an actual arguement against the model. What you said amounts to "I don't like it", which well, is fair, but nobody actually cares and that does not give you a toe to stand on in the debate.
