What did you buy?

Any hidden gems?
An entire thread full of games more worthy than Battlefront
>>
>>318137314

Mainly indie stuff. Dustbowl, Runespell Overture, Environmental Station Alpha, etc. Can't say I'm terribly impressed with any of them, but they're cheap and at least somewhat interesting. I would always rather play something flawed but interesting than hyper-produced AAA dross.

Flawed but interesting? Have you heard of E.Y.E.? Pic related.
>>
I really want to get Wolfenstein The New Order, but after spending my money on headsets on Black Friday I don't have any left.
>>
Rocket League and half regretting it. Played for half a day and the game already pits me against veteran tier players because you "level up" too fast. Fucking bullshit matchmaking.
>>
Skullgirls colour pack
>>
I'm thinking about refunding Divinity OS, and getting Pillars of Eternity instead. Is this a bad idea?
>>
>>318138253
Yes.
>>
>>318138253
Divinity for the combat, Pillars for the story. Depends on what you prioritize.
>>
Should i grab Guardians, Shadows and lost tales dlc for endless legend or wait till the christmas sale?
>>
>>318137314
>Need help deciding?

Fairy fencer F ?

Trail is the sky what difference between original and SC
>>
>>318138351
>Pillars for the story.
HAHAHAhA
>>
>>318138495
Trails in the Sky: First Chapter and Second Chapter. Play them in order, otherwise you'll be lost story-wise. Incredible games if you're in the mood for a deep slow-burn story.

Fairy Fencer F is supposed to be one of the better JRPGs on Steam, but I can't tell you much more than that.
>>
>>318138621
Pillars has a good story. Just because you're incapable of reading longer passages doesn't undo that. The story isn't great, it's not as good as Baldur's Gate's story, but overall it's at the very least competent and serviceable.
Which makes it better than D:OS' story.
>>
>>318137893

Already got it. Actually, I stand corrected. One of my favorite games in recent times is Invisible Inc., and that is polished as hell, and has very few flaws.
>>
>>318138253
You get the refund money back in a week after the refund request is processed, the processing took 2 hours for me.
>>
>literally everything on my wishlist is on sale
>it's not even the Winter Sale
The fuck is this
>>
>>318138890

Pillars has a problem with the way the story is presented, not necessarily with the quality of writing. Also, terrible backer fanfiction.
>>
>>318138953
Okay, you're on the lookout for interesting games and like Invisible Inc..

Have you heard of Renowned Explorers? It seems like a novel and refreshing adaptation of 4x and TBS concepts. As a plus it has relatively short campaigns/games, they're supposed to be like 4 hours long each.

It does come heavily recommended, and I'm currently trying to decide between it and Invisible myself.
>>
>>318139118
That's certainly true, it does have flaws, but I still think it's one of the best RPGs in recent times and a pretty good revival of the classical CRPG. It needs work, and I haven't tried the DLC myself, but it's still a good game.

>>
I was gonna buy duck game and borderlands the presequel, both are games I know I would enjoy, but not enough to justify their price tags, and honestly? even on sale i don't feel like it's justifiable, they're still too much.

it's not even about actually paying for them, since i've got 140$ in my steam wallet from tf2 garbage, but something about even wasting fake money still burns me
>>
>>318139354
Damn dude you missed out
It was 5 dollars a few months back and $1 as part of a humbebundle a few months back as well
>>
>>318139231

I have it on my list. I tried Curious Expedition while it was free a while ago as well. Pretty fun, albeit a bit too random for its own good. Still worth a look.

As for Inc, I heartily recommend it. I got it on the recent sale with the dlc, and it was worth the 14e.
>>
>>318139354
I managed to get this from a humble bundle. pretty decent game.
>>
>>318140394
if you have bdl or bdl2 don't bother with another one
>>
>>318140282
Great game desu senpai. It's like if ftl and xcom had a baby. None of the stupid 95% chance to hit and then miss either. Every level feels like a puzzle where you know there's some way to get out alive if you play right.
>>
>>318140282

The core gameplay is really enjoyable, if you like turn based tactical games. The levels are proceeduraly generated, which leads to some jankyness and sameyness, but nothing unwinnable or gamebreaking. Very little RNG otherwise (there is not to hit % etc.). the difficulty is fairly customizable, you can easily find what's appropriate for you. The presentation is great, although it would greatly benefit from a bit more dialogue between team members.
>>
Bought Elite: Dangerous just cause it looked nice for a space game.
>>
>>318140760

It's a kind of game that would greatly benefit from having a bigger budget. The core ideas are really solid, it just needs more content (more hand crafted levels for example). Definitely worth the money though. It's what indie games should, instead of endlessly recycling retro platforms and fotm youtube fodder.
>>
>>318141028
Speaking of more content, how's the DLC, been meaning to pick it up?
>>
>>318141203

I bought the game with DLC included, so I can't really say. More items, longer timeframe, some new agents.
>>
>>318140804
You will regret it.
>>
>>318141471
why?
Looking at the steam reviews, even the bad ones are like "Gets old after 30 hours. 458 hours on record" sounds pretty worth for $15
>>

>>
>>318141870
If you own the base game you get a discount on the expansion, so if you buy the base game now you pay the same amount of money as if you bought game + expansion on Horizon's release.

It makes no difference money-wise.

>>
>>318141759
It's literally Euro Truck Simulator in space. Even Minecraft has more content than this game, and the fact they're tagging the addition of planets as an expansion, priced as high as a top AAA game, instead of patching them in like they were originally going to do, is reason enough to not support them.

I've had the game since day 1 being a fan of the old elites and i can tell you it feels like an early access title, it looks pretty but there's no substance to it, even Freelancer had more depth.
>>
Hard West is fun as fuck.

Supernatural Wild West XCOM.

If you like XCOM i'd say get it even though it's 15 bucks. It only launched November 19. Throw it on the watch list and get it this time next year for 2 bucks.
>>
>>318142936

Jews will jew. Luckily, I bought the whole package.
>>
>>318142612
It's really a sub-par scifi mod for Civ 5. Unless they shit out a great expansion (like they did with Brave New World), it's not worth it.
>>

Really considering GTAV.

It reminds me of 3 and I really liked 3 and VC. Kinda thinking of getting 2 and playing with the GF, but not sure how multiplaye works, or if coming back to GTA after so long if it will feel fresh. Never got into Saints Row, liked Prototype, JC2 was good but everything looked the same.

Environmental Stage Alpha

>>318142936
Bethesda is the Apple of games. Good with advertising to the mainstream, but ultimately shallow. Get Styx if you like stealth, or Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, or Thief 1-3. Or if you just want to wreck shit basically any game not that one.

The sequel improved upon the first one a lot. Firstly, most of your shit actually hits now. Meaning that it's more about tactics than what the RNG feels like that turn.

It's great, and it's cheap as dirt.

>>
>>318144220

>not finding $3 under your couch cushions
>>
>>318144097

Literally, not at all. I played through the first one, and I noticed a few re-occurring characters who happened to survive the last one's ordeal. My brother, who never touched the first one, also played through the second one and said that he that all characters where fleshed out so well that he never felt in the dark or as if he was missing anything about any of them.

The plot as a whole is set in the same universe but has absolutely no relation to the events of the first game.

Honestly, what made it the best experience for me though, was the combat with less RNG.

The fact that you didn't have to cross your fingers every time something launched and assume that it would probably miss, meant that you could focus a lot more on the fun stuff like using niche abilities for interesting effect.

The only game I bought this year from steam was an 80 cent joke game I was testing as a joke gift to others.

Nothing is interesting enough to be worthy of buying, Nostalrius is out and it costs nothing. Vanilla wow > all games in 2015

Steam better start bringing back the 75 80 and 90% off big name titles or else Im going to just save my money this year, and next year, until I finally feel I have to buy something.

They are the ones losing out, not me. I dont need their low value shovelware for almost nothing, they can keep it and make less money in the end. People dont buy games they dont plan on playing, if the prices are only 30% off.

Industry crash round 2 when?

It's a good game as long as you like japanese history, it's event and text heavy. Castle building boils down to making it bigger and better, you build provinces around the castle to either raise crops (Needed for population and army supplies), crafts(Overall income) and Levy (How many soldiers the castle can raise), the goal is to make provinces as efficient as possible. Combat is mostly automatic.

Supposed to be a proper and great stealth game, fighting means almost always that you lose, you absolutely need to stealth your way around. Great verticality in levels. As I've heard it involves a lot of trial and error and reloading, though. So it really depends what you're looking for in a stealth game. Think Thief or the earlier Splinter Cells, not Assassin's Creed or so.

Nobunaga's Ambition: Sphere of Influence, and I wouldn't recommend it for castle building, castle building is as shallow as in Total War games.

Tag small guns, speech and lockpicking. Take gifted as it's really good because unlike Bethesda Fallout games SPECIAL itself is super important. Small frame is great if you're not a pack rat.

Just play Dwarf Fortress and settle in a red sand biome, and pretend you're in mars.

Otherwise, X3.

It's worth it for the original games imo. I lost my discs so this was a godsend. The remasters are OK... HW2 is just updated graphics, but the remastered original is a homeworld mod in HW2's engine.

I've had Lords of the Fallen for quite some time but barely play it. Now, I admit that the Souls' games aren't really my thing, but I at least enjoyed my single playthroughs of each of those games. Lords of the Fallen? I enjoyed marveling at the graphics for a bit, then realised that the beginning areas are the only good looking parts of the game then just got bored to fuck by the combat throughout my single playthrough. While the Souls' games have weighty combat and movement, Lords does it way too much and you just end up slow no matter what weapon you use.

I'd like to see them come up with better everything for a sequel though.

Forged Alliance was the standalone expansion that did everything the original did but better. It even ran better but that's kinda a moot point with modern systems. You get more troops, a better campaign, more maps and just more everything. And no, you don't need both.

What's better? Ys or Hyperdimension Neptunia?

Consider I am not really interested by JRPGs but I wanna maybe try my luck into one and maybe get into the genre

Also consider I played the demo of Ys Origins and enjoyed the combat a lot (getting to the boss was some boring shit though)
>>
>>318149312
I found Anno 2070 to be very comfy and I enjoyed it. However it was my first experience of an Anno game and that type of genre so there may be better options out there.

It wasn't my 'thing' per se but I remember the gameplay on console being quite fun and I wanted to have somethingt to mess with and unwind. From what I've seen of 3 that'll definitely fit the bill, especially around Christmas!

i don't want to get a credit/debit card, i create a virtual debit card with set limit every now and then, so i added extra cash for my wallet whenever i want to buy something else, the card expires in 6 weeks, its safer too, after purchase i set my limit to 0.01
>>
>>318149481
Y's is a lot better than Nep, you'd have to already be a complete weeb faggot to enjoy Nep and if you were a complete weeb faggot then you'd already know that you wanted Nep.

It's alright really
PROS:
>the game is beautiful
>fun spells that allows you to cheese the game when you're tired of tryharding
>boss drops unique items if you beat them in a certain fashion
>high NG+ replayability
>you actually need to know how to parry some mobs if you don't wanna spend 10mn to kill them and waste time / health

CONS:
>brawler is too much easy mode, too much mechanics too cheese the game
>not enough magic / rogue items compared to all the strength item you get
>game is really easy once you have a damaging skill maxed out
>2 playthrough is enough to see nearly 100% of the content, more is just tiresome as the map is even less open than DaS2's.

I don't wanna buy them all at once, maybe just one during the sale max 2.
So which ones?
>>
>>318149758
Honestly I pirated it when I was younger and had a lot of fun. It's basically five minigames, the first one is agar.io, the second one is a third person RPG-likey hack'n'slash game, the third one is a RTS like Starcraft 2, the fourth is some sort of strategy thing like Civ V, and the final one is just some space simulator.

With that said all those games are as "mini" as can be and severely lack depth. The space one is the most elaborated one overall but it still feels void. Thing is: The servers are dead so 50% of the fun is gone. EA is not hosting them anymore.
>>
Is TiTs:SC worth it for just 10% off?

>>
>>318148141
But... Dual Destinies was already released??

The "DD" acronym was already taken by Ace Attorney Dual Destinies. Use "DrD" or something for your game. Thank you for cooperating.
>>
>>318149758
Eh... You can probably get a few hours of fun. It's pretty grindy at almost every life stage though. Space Stage being the worst offender.

It is kind of cool when you first realize how big the galaxy is and how insignificant the starting planet you've spent the entire first parts of the game on is.
>>
>>318149925

Screw Bioshit. Try hard "deep" shit games. Infinite is only worth it for the artstyle.
Definitely keep Legend of Heroes. It reminds me of those late SNES-early PS1 god tier JRPGs. I just bought it recently and I'm so happy.
>>
>>318150164
>Screw Bioshit. Try hard "deep" shit games. Infinite is only worth it for the artstyle.
True in regards to Infinite, but the first game was fucking incredible and still holds up really well, the second one is full of minor improvements upon that formula with a meh story.
>>
>>318149925

That's pretty much the case though. I avoid games on Steam with less than 90% positive reviews. I am not saying that all games with over 90% positive reviews are good, but if your game was shit to the point that more than 10% of the people who reviewed went out of their way to write negative reviews about it on Steam, then we have a problem. If it's below 80% and 90% I can maybe take a look at the negative reviews and see if the issues affect me directly. Will never buy anything below 80.

Elite is closer to a casual manual controlled version of EVE than it is to Rebel.

Rebel is kinda cool but Elite is more about flying around space in a 1:1 scale galaxy obviously using FTL travel, trading, doing missions, bounty hunting, pirating whatever. It's an MMO as well, very similar to EVE, except you can choose to play in a game unpopulated with other players

I am 15 hrs in already, so it's been worth my $15, and I'm gonna spend a lot more yet with some friends. I can see why people say there is a lack of content as, after you get the hang of it, you sort of run out of new things and start just getting better at what you know. But it's got a promising potential and it's very fun imo

But whatever you do, don't play 2 first, if you don't want to see the million flaws in ME1 gameplay.

If you're a sensitive person, play Spec Ops for the story. Otherwise, just watch a first time playthrough video on youtube to get it over with. (If you don't, you will probably buy the game at some point because you've overhyped it.)
The gameplay isn't noteworthy.

Had to refund Elite.

Constantly crashing out for no reason other than 'my 980 to powerful'.
Frontier seem to know it is a problem with the 970/980/980ti but make no effort to fix it.

You may be lucky and not have these problems, but the actual game isn't all that good.
Docking is pretty fun, but space is instanced, so you jump to an area and you lose who you were tailing.

Short answer? Its good.

Long answer? The game appeals to people that like to learn from their mistakes, if you want to play the game to its fullest go in completely blind with no guide, and figure shit out yourself. You can go the whole game without killing if your stats and skills are high enough, but IMO the best way to play is to go with a pure combat character because the combat is bullshit unforgiving, and until you know what weapons and skills are the best, or the power of secondary skills to supplement combat, it will be a tough tread, and you will easily have to reload your game constantly.

I beat the game about 10 times, its got incredible depth, lore, and a passable story, the biggest problem I have with it is that the actual length of gameplay is quite short, but you literally cannot do certain things with certain stat builds, which makes the replayability off the fuckin chain nigga.

I bought it full price and had no regrets.

I'm deciding between Rust and Ark. Gonna buy and play one or the other.

What do you all think?
>>
>>318162239

Kinda, there are better "survival" games in terms of balance or replaybility, but Ark have huge chances of actually getting finished, due to MS interest in using the game for promoting DX12.
>>
>>318141816
It's the hidden best RPG 2015, almost reachs classic status for me and is fairly new, so it will become "A classic" down the road.
>>
>>318141816

>>
>>318162472
Rust looks more fun to me at least and it's showing constant progress.
>>
>>318162415
>>318162414

Every avernum game is great, they get better progression wise. escape from the pit is a good starting point to get you used to the world it builds up. every game has over 50 hours of gameplay so if you can get it on sale nab it while you can.

The overworld in every game is great too, lots of exploration potential, and the combat system is one of the better turn based systems out there, with full AoE damage on team mates, body blocking off passages, useful summons, melee isnt totally fucking gimped ect.

Great game series and spiderweb is a good company to get behind, since the nigga making these games actually gives a fuck about his products.

You need to mod Kotor 1 to get widescreen. It's not too difficult. Kotor 2 works perfectly and has built in widescreen (just set compatability to XP or none at all). System Shock 2 also works perfectly and has great fanmade campaigns available.

Is Hyperdimension Neptunia 1 any good? Is the dlc needed? Do I just get Environmental Station Alpha instead, even though its not even 50% sale.

It may go on sale during the winter sale since it does release a month after, but who knows if the sale will be better or even as good as the current one.
>>
>>318162910

Insurgency was pretty active last time I checked (week before last huge update), both in co-op and "normal" matches. Good mechanics, you die quickly, most people are skilled too - pretty nice game, could be called "CS:GO done right".
>>
>>318141816
Agree with >>318162414

Worth the price of admission for such a unique game if nothing else IMHO, beat it twice and plan on replaying in future. Game still suffers from being too 'hard' (too high skillchecks that make very narrowly defined builds work), but overall it has a good flow, unique world, and engaging story.

>>
>>318163572

Removal of daily/flash deals sucks enough, it basically ends with discounts being low for whole duration, instead of having some short time "lucky shots".

Argument about people working and having no time to check Steam all the time is stupid - they HAVE to have at least a moment to check daily deals, nobody works for straight 24h, except some public services works.

Even then, when one guy from my uni group feared he would miss the deals, he simply asked me to buy keys for him and returned money next week. There is always some way.
