In games set in the future, the characters are not speaking English. Just like they're not speaking German in the German version and they're not speaking Japanese in the Japanese version.

They're speaking whatever the hell language they're speaking. The spoken language option exists outside the game universe so that you can understand what's going on.

Please excuse the autism.

"Scots" is a language similar to English, which has a lot of speakers. It forms a dialect continuum with English, and the distinction between "Scots" and "Scottish English" is blurry to say the least.

Scottish Gaelic is spoken by fewer than 30,000 people, although it has its own TV station and radio shows.

Irish is spoken by almost 1m people according to official censuses, but in actuality, the number of fluent speakers is in the tens of thousands, and gaeltacts (Irish speaking areas) are growing smaller every year.

Welsh, however, has at least 500,000+ fluent speakers in the UK, and the number of speakers is actually growing every single year. There are many towns in the UK where Welsh is the daily language.

thanks for the info friend, I had a feeling that these languages were more for bragging rights while in actuality ppl are just speaking english all the time, even amongst themselves.
>>
>>318100618
Well, interesting. When did it just become the normal to speak English?

How big of a kekold do you even have to be to speak a language of a culture that hasn't even invaded you.
>>

This.

Don't think about it as English. Think about it as "common" or whatever.

>When did it just become the normal to speak English?

Depends what part of the UK you're talking about.

English is not a de jure ("official") language of the UK, it's only the de facto ("working") official language. Monolingual Irish and Welsh speaking areas existed until the early 20th century. Since then, almost every single native person has been bilingual in English (with very, very few exceptions). Scottish Gaelic monolingualism died out sometime in the 19th century. Cornish monolingualism existed until the late 17th or early 18th century.

Aside from Celtic/Brythonic languages, only Scots exists as an extant native language in the UK, but the number of speakers is almost impossible to estimate. Many Scottish people speak a largely unintelligible language to native English speakers called "Scots", although they're almost all fluent in English as well.
