Also, do not engage it at all until it gets exhausted, and especially when it becomes enraged. Try to get a mount or two off at the beginning of the fight to get some extra damage in but otherwise keep running.
It'll take some time, but eventually it will become exhausted and then that's when you hit it until it becomes enraged again. Rinse and repeat 2-3 times and the fucker is dead. Unless you have a group, than feel free to light into him.

Very worth it. Needs 9.2 or lower firmware, if 9.3 or higher you're out. Also needed, a microSD for the gateway card.
Region lock is nonexistent with it. Online also possible with the roms and the cartridges you've already bought.

Eshop is also accesible, gateway creates a 2nd firmware in your SD that's updated to the latest version, can be updated-not even manually, just update like you would normally from the console itself with wifi- everytime there's a newer one and still retains its pirating capabilities. This also means access to online and the eshop. Some times updating that 2nd firmware can cause it to stop working but the gateway team always posts new launchers to accomodate.
The original firmware will still be in place everytime you power your 3ds on. That means you ain't touching that one, ever. If your original firmware gets updated, you're out. There are also other precautions and stuff you need to watch out for so go read up on it.

Haven't hunted anything in a while, sadly. Got all the way up to G Rank and beat Gogmazios, but that's more or less where I left it. Trying to solo things is too much of a pain, and finding a good group to take on anything I wanted to fightmost notably Apex monsters because of honing, never could find a group that didn't triple-cart five minutes inwas just too aggravating.
Plus I want to let my hunting muscles rest in preparation for X, whenever it comes out.
Favorite monster, as far as design goes, would probably have to be Dalamadur. I've always been fond of the giant monsters, and running all over a giant snake-dragon as it coils around a mountain is a lot of fun.

Nerscylla is pretty easy once you learn his moves.
Aside from the various web shots, he'll swing at you with his claws, pull his fangs out for a poisonous bite that has an absurd amount of windup, and try to put you to sleep with his stinger while you're underneath him. That's all he's really got.
With Longsword, just hack away at his legs and be wary of his front, since you can bounce off his claws pretty easily. Once you topple him, go to down on his back end. Also mount as much as you can, he's easy to bring down.

Gl isn't as good as it should be, but still viable. I love playing with Gunlancers.
If you're a decent gl you'll be doing more damage then a bad gs. Have fun, the difference in killtime is minuscule.

I'm trying to finish up the rest of the [Advanced] G quests in 3U. I can only manage to make myself do 3 or 4 in one sitting, so its been slow. I was on three-month hiatus before Thanksgiving break, so I was a little rusty coming back but pleasantly surprised with how well I could still play switch axe. The muscle memory doesn't really go away once you've got a few hundred hunts in, does it?

Is it worth getting this while its on sale if I only have a vanilla 3ds, not XL or New or 2d or anything? I know it makes a frame rate difference but how big are we talking and is it stable?

I played 4U for hundreds of hours before getting a N3DS. So long as you're comfortable with using the virtual D-pad to move the camera, or getting used to using the normal D-pad and L to compensate, the game runs fine.
There are a few framerate issues regardless of what you play the game on, but the main difference is just the texture quality. N3DS gets better textures than the regular 3DS version, and it makes some monsters pretty awesome to look at, even up close.
Not sure if I should get X. I got 4G with the 3DS LL bundle and haven't done anything with it since playing 4 to death burned me out.
