What are some good games that aren't horror games but have some really disturbing/scary sections?

It does? Elaborate a little without spoiling too much. The game is horror themed isn't it?

STALKER trilogy.
>>
>>318082780
Max Payne comes to mind
>>
>>318083128
it's an action-RPG foremost, just like DaS and DeS before it. It just has both western, "transylvanian" horrors and some Lovercraftian spookies mixed together.

That sounds pretty interesting desu. I might finally get that PS4 after all.

do the souls games and bb have cool and interesting monsters?
>>

Yes, ds2 less so.

Dead space

I'm not even trying to shit on the series, I love it. But it's just not scary enough to be horror.

Besides that, the visual design and gameplay are bretty good to be honest, bruv.

stalker was marketed as and fps with rpg elements and everybody who grabbed that game expected exactly that. Unless you spoiled the game for yourself, you will not know about bloodsuckers, the labaratories and such.

How do people go into a post apocalyptic game not expecting spooky shit

stalker isn't really post apocalypse. the entire premise that justifies the zone is because there is normal life going outside of it.

Ah, true. I'm a fucking idiot. What would you call Stalker's setting?

demon's souls and BB both have multiple areas that are dedicated to unnerving/creeping out the player with their environment and enemy design. They aren't horror games, but they do put in the effort to throw strong horror elements in the works.

DaS (and especially DaS2) don't do this, they're more about generating a "melancholy" tone than an oppressive/fearful one
>>
>>318086365
I am not an expert but STALKER is one of those "prison-society" works. What qualifies such a work for me is:

> takes place in a small part of its universe
> this small society is bound to some sort of special set of rules, environment, people, anything.
> there is some interaction and dependance on the "big real world" outside of this society
> big parts of the work are spend focusing on the life in general in that society and not the plot or characters.
>>
>>318082780
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. That one fucking place everyone who played the game knows about.
>>
>>318086096
>>318086215
it's not post apocalyptic in a technical sense, since the outside world seems a-OK outside of the Zone, but since the player only ever interacts with the Zone, and the Zone is stylized as a post apocalyptic setting, the difference is a bit pedantic
>>
>>318085858
They were all over the game marketing and trailers before it came out.
>>
>>318084962
As somebody that likes a lot of enemy diversity in games and fantasy creature shit I'd say yeah. Like >>318085147 said Dark Souls 2 doesn't as much since it's mostly humanoids but it still has some fun designs.

It has a shitton of horror elements without being an "outright" horror game.
Also it has a very nice transition from rather "ordinary" horror to more inexplicable stuff.

The whole blood thing helps dampen the mood, usually. It's not overly gorey (there's a few designs that might work for certain phobias), mostly just bloody.
>>
>>318089346
I can't tell which part of BB's setting is meant to be more horror-inspired. On one hand, the Beast/gothic horror segments are very gruesome, and most of the NPCs that are involved with them get very bad ends. On the other hand, the Cosmic Horror segments are dedicated to ticking off every possible environmental-related phobia one by one, and are filled with evil experiments and shit

It's a mix of both, hence the slow transition over the course of the game.

Singularity was pretty spooky in the beginning then turned into a neat shooter with some annoying enemies.
