True, but in terms of stuff I'd go back to listen to, SK always has me replaying the OST, it has a perfect balance of mellow and pumping songs varying from familiar to progressive as fuck compositions with and a good groove factor.
With Cave Story, it's very rarely I revisit the OST but during gameplay, the songs do captivate me during gameplay, especially fucking Scorching Back's intense motif and Running Hell just gives me a rush. Wind Fortress and Moonsong are also great.

It's not really in contention for the top spot, but I just finished Kero Blaster. Quite fun, solid soundtrack, nothing quite as memorable as Cave Story though. I found the subject matter pretty amusing.
Probably not the best one but Iji is still one of my favorite random download games I've ever played.

That's a fun one and a great job but it's not quite content packed like Shovel Knight is.

Overrated as fuck as a platformer. Remove all the plot sections and compare it to OP's games, you'll see that it's not even close to them. Some levels are literal corridors, the best ones are towards the end of the game. Dicking around on any Shovel Knight level is more fun that most of Cave Story's levels. You get the booster too late too. And some people call it a "metroidvania" for no reason at all. People only dickride that game so much because they played it a long time ago when there weren't many indie platformers, or because they're amazed one guy did it alone, or because of the plot.

I'm just ranting. I played it, I have a save at Hell right now and seriously, it's a good game, but I've played several platformers and there is nothing special in this one. The booster complaint is that it's something fun and unique you get in this game but the game is almost over already when you get it, so there is not much opportunity to use it. I remember watching a speedrun in one of the gdqs and the dude was saying that he liked the game for the movement mechanics and cited the booster as a reason, but he had already played most of the game when he finally had it.
The beginning drags on too much: start with the tutorial before getting the gun, a lot of plot and a balrog fight. Then a small egg corridor with filler enemies, more plot, the boring village that is another corridor with yet more plot, then you finally get to a good level in the desert, but then it's dog fetch quest time. After that the game finally starts getting fun. By comparison, in Shovel Knight by this time you already beat king and specter knights at the very least and those are much better levels.
