It is worth it to get an i7 for gaming ?
>>
No. Stick with the much cheaper and readily available i5.
>>
yeah if you can afford it, should stay useful a bit longer than an i5.
>>
>>318073261
the AMD FX-8350 is superior to anything the kI5kes have to offer
>>
i5 6400 or 6600?
Is there such a big difference?
>>
>>318074269
>3 year old processor that needs to be ran at over 9000ghz and 100*c to compete
>>
The i7 6700k is sold out alost everywhere, and has gone up $70 in price, I'm currently waiting to buy one, but if it stays like it is for another month, I will be going i5.
>>
>>318073261
Go amd, don't buy botnet processors.

9000 GIGA hertz. A little exaggeration there?
>>
No, an i5 will be just fine for gaming. You only need an i7 if you're doing CPU intensive tasks that require hyperthreading.
>>
i7 is a meme
skylake is a meme
ddr4 is a meme

you're literally wasting your money buying these for gaming. almost no games use hyperthreading and skylake and ddr4 have literally no impact on gaming performance.
>>
>>318075832
What's DDR4 anyway?
Even faster RAM?
>>

it is another gen of ram

And that's only with DDR3.

Yes.
Not much between 6400 and 6500, but there is a big difference between 6400 and 6600. I just bought a 6600 myself. Non k because overclocking is a waste.
>>
>>318075832
Its the new generation of hardware, it will be required going forward, how can it be a meme? That's like saying new console generation is a meme. Sure the old ones are still good, and you can still buy them, but they are not going to be supported going forward.
>>
>>318075952
it's faster and a better tech but so far it has no use for gaming. ddr3 ram is still excellent for gaming, and it's way cheaper. you won't see any performance improvements with ddr4 for gaming.

This is what happens when there is no competition, no innovation and it becomes stale.

Remember when Creative had the monopoly, the same thing might happen to Inter or Nvidia if they try to push AMD out of the market.

Okay.
>>
>>318075832
An i7 can actually have rather significant effects on beyond 60Hz gaming. Hell in GTAV not even my 4790k at 4.6GHz can manage a solid 120fps.

That being said skylake and DDR4 are pretty pointless thus far. Some games can make use of better RAM (BF4, GTAV, FO4) but DDR3 is still generally cheaper than DDR4, even for higher clocked DDR3 kits.
>>
>>318076235
it doesn't though. cpus are not the bottleneck for gaming. any decent cpu you buy will be more than enough for gaming with stock speeds.

lol

You don't need more than 4 cores for gaming. All those extra cores aren't doing shit, most games barely even utilize 4 cores to begin with, never mind 8. Even games that are "optimized" for 4+ cores (ie. Battlefield 4) don't really see an improvement over a similarly priced or cheaper quad-core (thanks to the faster core clock speed of most quad-cores compared to hex/octo cores).

For example, you can get a quadcore FX-4350 for $60 cheaper than a FX-8350, but the FX-4350 has a higher base core clock speed, and will likely perform at or just slightly below the FX-8350 and its 8 cores.

I bought one of the original i7s back in 2009. It's still running nicely at 3.7Ghz but I've had hyperthreading disabled for 4 years now since it just overheats the chip and gives insignificant performance gains. In fact, in some games they actually ran slower with hyperthreading enabled!

Low end, Pentium Anniversary Edition G3258. Overclocks like a madman
Otherwise, i5. Overclocks well but you gotta invest a bit more for higher end clocks (I suggest all in one waterblock coolers, easy to install but make sure you check for evaporation/leaks if you see nominal temps go up over time)

ARK is an unoptimized piece of shit and runs awful on a 980ti. A decent current mid-range card is the R9 390 (not 390X). If you can wait see what nVidia Pascal does once the cards come out next year.

Yes, not only do more games take advantage of it, and more heavily take advantage of it every day, but so does everything else you would ever do with your PC. It's more than worth it for amazing emulation as well.
