The stories are never about the fate of the world and are only personalized stories with a set time limit to the main character like Totori becoming an adventurer and alchemist to find her mother or Ayesha trying to save her sister from the spirit world thingy before she fades away forever. Totori easily has the best conclusion to her story

The original Rorona is kinda blah gameplay-wise, but Plus is good as it integrates a lot of the improvements they made in subsequent games. Story-wise it's the weakest of the PS3 Ateliers, but it's a decent introduction.

Rorona, Totori, and Meruru are all in the Arland series. Ayesha is the beginning of the Twilight series. Rorona is skippable since it's the weakest in my opinion and the few crossover characters aren't too important or explained who they are. I'd say play Ayesha first since it tone is different from the Arland series and a lot of people have trouble with that
