There are a number of quests and NPC interactions in the game that go into playful innuendos and the like. It's more a question of whether or not they wanted to include some genuinely questionable and uncomfortable content when they had the ability to make it into something more welcoming. When any person is presented with the choice of writing a character and story line that is pretty reprehensible without it being a critical commentary on their actions, or reworking it into a more positive direction that isn't going to make others squirm, they're not exactly going to hesitate to go for the latter.

Play-Asia seem genuinely frustrated at the bullshit they get these types and noticed the change in the wind that encourages this kind of play.
However, I think you'd be naive not to see the PR side of this, especially after Hatred. Right now they've kicked the nest and everyone is focusing on them. DOAX3 has it's own small core audience who don't really pay that much attention to the negative press; they know what they are buying and they are probably more worried about the micro-transactions and DLC gouging. By playing into the social justice narrative they can potentially lure in new customers trying to stick it to social justice. It worked for others and it will work again.
As usual it's better to buy a game on it's own merits. If it's the kind of thing you are interested get it, but I wouldn't recommend buying it for ideological reasons.
