There are 3 types of online multiplayer
Squad Missions involve you killing monsters in your own game to contribute to the mission progress. If your squad clears the mission, you get loot.
Squad Quests are unlocked after doing enough missions. Those play like Monster Hunter multiplayer.
World Events are like Squad Quests but everyone in your squad is doing it. One example is a boss that has a shared HP bar and has to be killed 6 times to clear the event.

My hype is still alive and kicking. Don't let the Japanese reviews get you down, the reasons they stated were all kinda unreasonable, and were mainly taken from Amazon, which has a history of bad reviews in Japan.
It seems like most people with review copies have had an overwhelming positive experience, praising the visuals, combat improvements, music, and characters.
If you liked the first one and you have a Wii U, I'd say you should totally pick it up. But, if you're not hyped, you're not hyped, dunno what to tell ya.

Well, it's an rpg, so don't expect any kind of reaction or precision based combat or anything. It's real time and you can move around, but it's more akin to a regular rpg, it's a numbers game.
If you like shit with constant progression and want to kill time, it's a great game for you. Plus, "open-world mecha" is like a pipe dream of a genre, at least for me. If that doesn't hook you, then I dunno mang.

I mean that you cast attacks out and then they recharge on a cooldown. It's very much a RPG with slight action elements, and not the other way around.

There's no online anymore so you can't get the best items and the story is alright but.....tedious. I also hope you like your character not being relative at all. I've actually never played a MonHun game, but you do get rare drops from completing online missions.
Here's my understanding of how the online works:
>You join a squad of 32 different players
>Those player's MCs will appear all over your map as recruitable temporary AI companions, recruiting another player's character will send the player some of the experience points you collect
>You can send chat messages to your squad about item or monster locations, if your message gets enough "likes" from your squad, it also gets posted world-wide
>You can send any loot you don't want into a "squad raffle". All the loot raffled will get distributed randomly among the participating squad members
>You also get a series of timed "Squad Missions", usually "kill X of that enemy" type missions. Everyone in your squad has the same mission, and you all work together individually in your own game to clear them. If you helped clear a squad mission, you're rewarded with online tokens
>Those tokens can be exchanged at BLADE HQ for a go at an actual online mission
>Online missions are instanced, usually either "defeat these waves of enemies" or "defeat this one super-boss", you can enter them with up to 3 other players, or you can substitute other players for Lin and Elma as AI.

I really don't want to derail this thread, but it's just sad when you compare this game and the previous xenoblade from a localization standpoint.
Xenoblade had complete dual audio on a fucking wii disk, name changes that actually made sense, like naming Bionis and Mechonis from kyoshin and kishin, and no clothing changes.although to be fair, with how much vitrol XCX is getting on the internet, it's really hard to find localization changes for the original xenoblade and I would appreciate more info on that

The original Xenoblade came out a complete year in the west after Japan. There's a lot to translate, including voices (there is much, much more voiced dialogue to be translated this time around).

I actually think the other way around, a mute and customizable MC is far better. A voiced MC can be a mixed bag, and either good, decent or a completely insufferable little shit that makes me want to drop the game, like Shion.
I also like roleplaying and think voiced MCs in RPGs are generally just cancer, though.

Yeah, it sucks a good bit, but at the end of the day a lot of it will go forgotten as long as the core plot and characters are the same. While some changes were made (like BLADE's acronym and skells) we can't really tell if the plot as a whole was censored from religious stuff until the game's out, since a lot of reviewers are either tight lipped about the story or aren't familiar with the Japanese version.
The changes are certainly a bummer, but I think Takahashi will be satisfied as long as the story's the same. I doubt the breast slider and Lin's costumes were part of his grand vision, although I'd certainly prefer the game uncensored.

This might mean more writing even if reduced to choosing between male protag and a female protag, but it would give the MC some substantial plot relevance while not being the hero i.e. DragonQuest V protag, instead of pulling a Vaan with this silent MC.

Most of the time I'm not opposed to name changes for the purposes of localization. Terra was a good substitution for Tina in FF6 since it still sounded similar and kept the exotic sound of it, seeing as Tina only sounds exotic to Japan.

Xenogears has nothing really to do with Saga which has nothing to do with Blade which also has nothing to do with X. People are just speculating that now that Takahashi is in a much more stable situation than with SE and Namco he is restarting Project Noah. Gears is nice but fuck me disk 2 is a mess. Saga 1 is very well paced and enjoyable while 2 is just pure awful and 3 is back to being good. And Xenoblade Chronicles is just a great game on it's own. I think really that is what was needed. I have read that Mira gravity is not that much different from Earth just a bit lighter so that's part of the reason.
