Still happens to be one of my favorite games.
Actually impossible puzzle, that fucking Hexagon robot shit at the end of Broken Age Act 2. I gave up and uninstalled the game when I was in a scinareo where I had no reference point for what to rewire the thing back to to make him beat the drum. There was no way of divining the solution short of having a photographic memory.

>security system
Man this is their doorbell.
They literally don't give a fuck who you are, as long as you're white and don't have a tattoo with letters on the back of your hand, they'll accept you.
And even the non-whites are allowed entry through the back-door
>>317956676

shit took me forever until I got lucky guess. How does it supposed to be solved?
fuck this
>>317956804
>whoops you used the wrong "O" looks like you have to start all over :^)
>>317956763
Impossible. You are lying. 3 bells with symbols on them. When you reach them your character pulls out a card with the exact same symbols on them, aligned in the correct order, with the number of times you must ring the bells clearly stated on the card. It's not a puzzle, it's not even a challenge, it's a sentience test. Chimps have been performing these tasks for centuries in experiments. Even pidgeons are capable of pattern recognition when trained. The Bioshock bells "puzzle" is the most laughable excuse for an intellectual challenge i've ever seen in vidya.

"First flew the greedy Pelican,
eager for the reward.
White wings flailing.
Then came a silent Dove,
flying beyond the Pelican,
as far as he could.
A Raven flies in,
flying higher than the Dove.
Just to show he can.
A Swan glides in to find a peaceful spot
next to another bird.
Finally, out comes a Crow,
coming quickly to a stop, yawning and then napping.
Who will show the way?
Who will be the key?
Who will lead to the silver reward?"

That one puzzle in phantom hourglass. Yea, you know which one. Just fuck it. I spent hours trying to figure it out till I gave up and closed my DS to take a break and came back to it solved.
>>317961294
This would have been less annoying but the game never explains to you that using different spells has different effects and you have to use the weakest fire and ice spells to solve it, anything else will never line it up right

Yep it was that one. I could never figure it out, even after watching the tutorial i was like "Well that's cryptic as fuck". I think you had to know what direction some pilgrim lived in, which was alright, then you had to know that each >>paragraph>> was an input for the puzzle, and there was weird shit like ">>and he continued along the path>>". What path? The path to his home or the path he was travelling? I wasn't even sure about the way the puzzle was solved, i think i tried sleeping (resting with my party) at one point because the hints implied that the "traveller" was travelling at night, so i thought the game had to be night time. I guess i over-analyzed it a bit.

>>317966361
Half an hour would be 5 combinations a second.
>>317956136
Why does this shit bother people so much? It's just a 5-digit code that works to let Columbia know (and only when the city is overhead) that someone wants to come aboard. It's not meant to keep people out because they welcome everyone that wants to leave the Sodom below. Like someone said, it's not a password, it's the doorbell.
If they wanted it to be something you have to remember, they wouldn't keep the card in view when you do it.
There was a puzzle in Hotel Dusk where you had to close your DS and open it again, which I just got because I gave up and turned it off and when I came back the puzzle was misteriously solved.
One week later I was playing Zelda Phantom Hourglass and the same close the DS puzzle stumped me again which made me feel like a double idiot.

The last game had some really terrible ones Can't remember it exactly but it asked something like "how may stars on this flag", was hard enough finding all the stars, then you got it wrong. Why? because you needed to double it for the stars on the other side of the flag DUH.
If you do 'trick' questions you've got to make sure you save it for puzzles that are clearly not the 'obvious' answer or are otherwise impossbile to solve otherwise you spend the whole game not knowing if you're solving a logic puzzle or a trick one.

>>317971408
Easy, just start working with a smaller number. The winning move is to leave 1 number so your opponent has to take it and lose. This means that if there are 1-11 numbers left on your turn, you win. This means that 12 is a bad number as your option is to leave your opponent with the winning move. From here the good options are to force your opponent to 12 as it is a automatic lose. This means that up to 22 is winning moves to start with, you can always reduce your opponent to 12. Now 23 is a shitty place again as your only move is to leave your opponent with 13-22, which are winning moves. 24 is again a good spot to be, you can take one away and give your opponent a automatic loss if you play correctly. This goes up to 33, 34 is bad, 35-44 is good, 45 bad, 46-55 is good. At this point you must have noticed the pattern: 11*n+1 is bad, others are good. If the game starts at 50 it means that the one who goes first wins.

In the temple you're supposed to go through to get the main storyline started and become dragonborn, the path is blocked by an elf trapped in spiderweb.
Skyrim being amazingly written, you character automatically knows he has a claw and asks about it.
He feigns to be an ally then bolts the fuck out with it once you free him.
Chances are Draugr or a trap will stop him permanently shortly after.
On his corpse, you'll find a journal that details the claw.
Of course, if you decided to postpone the main quest line, didn't find his body because a trap sent it flying in a corner or just didn't read or pick up his journal, you will have no clue what to do at those doors.
>>317972750
Infinifactory.
>>317971110
That was some shit.
>>317972750
Infinifactory, basically SpaceChem except in 3D.
You basically take a configurement of blocks (the input) and turn it into another configurement of blocks (the output).
In order to do that you have to make "factories" that move the blocks from point A to point B, using various components like conveyor belts, fusers, sensors, pushers, lasers, etc.
For example for the puzzle in >>317971110 , you'd want to use a laser to destroy the worthless center column and free the blue blocks, fuse the blue blocks together into new columns, and then fuse those blue columns unto the grey base (which comes from another input not shown in the screenshot).
Every puzzle has a shitton of solutions, some of which are more efficient than others. As the game progresses the puzzles become more and more complex and mindboggling. I haven't even finished the game yet, I'm still stuck.
What are some good puzzle games like Myst, Lighthouse, and Riven? Specifically of the point-and-click variety.
I want games that make me have to jot shit down and keep notes, but any "modern" puzzle games are just simple things like matching shapes to get them to fit into something.

Pure eyes, blue like a glassy bead —
You are always looking at me
and I am always looking at you.
Ah, you're too meek —
beautiful, unspoiled:
thus I'm so sad, I suffer —
and so happy, it hurts.
I want to hurt you
and destroy myself
What you would think
if you knew how I felt.
Would you simply smile,
not saying a word?
Even curses from your mouth
would be as beautiful as pearls.
I place my left hand on your
face as though we were to kiss.
Then I suddenly shove my thumb
deep into your eyesocket.
Abruptly, decisively,
like drilling a hole.
And what would it feel like?
Like jelly?
Trembling with ecstasy, I obscenely
mix it around and around: I must
taste the warmth of your blood.
How would you scream?
Would you shriek "It hurts!
It hurts!" as cinnabar-red tears
stream from your crushed eye?
You can't know the maddening
hunger I've felt in the midst of
our kisses, so many of them
I've lost count.
As though drinking in your cries,
I bring my hopes to fruition:
biting your tongue, shredding it,
biting at your lips as if tasting
your lipstick.
Oh, what euphoric heights I would
reach, having my desires fulfilled
like a greedy, gluttonous cur.
I longed, too, for your cherry-tinted
cheeks, tasty enough to bewitch my
tongue.
I would surely be healed,
and would cry like a child.
And how is your tender ear?
It brushes against my cheek;
I want it to creep up to my lips so
I can sink my teeth into its flesh.
Your left ear, always hearing words
whispered sweet as pie —
I want it to hear my true feelings.
I never lied, no...
but I did have my secrets.
Ah, but what must you think of me?
Do you hate me? Are you afraid?
As though inviting you to the agony
at the play's end, if you wish, you
could destroy me — I wouldn't care.
As you wish, you may destroy me
— I wouldn't care.

Was literally impossible on the PC version without a controller on release. Middle-mouse didn't work for rotation.
>>317957906
Relaxing isn´t the opposite of thinking, though.
And to be honest, for these people it isn´t their work either, most likely.
>can't hear music down the hall even though it says you can
>song has two layers to it, but it only uses one
>I am tone deaf
>>317956342
Problem is there was literally no indication the game that you could actually go into your inventory and rotate the items.
I played it a long time ago when the game just came out and there was literally nothing suggesting you could take a closer look on an item in your inventory.

Look at this fucking casual.
They straight up give you totally different symbols for the numbers
In order to look at the numbers again you have to go through 5 menus then interact with the door again

Fucking impossible.
I have yet to hear of a single person who solved this without a guide.
I know I fuckind didn't.

Maybe so dull witted creatures who are capable of using tools and frequent caves, like draugr or goblins, are unable to stick the key in the door or something.
>>317997342
Not necessarily. I don't know if it's the case, but there could be an official guidewritten by the developers sold in Japan or something that had the solution to it that the other buide-writers just copied.
>>317997161
When I did that puzzle I was playing with friends, and another dude was controlling first. He ended up getting frustrated due to everybody trying to help and went outside to cool off along with other two, so I solved it all alone in the silence.
The worst part is that you don't get anything good for solving the damn thing. No good gear, or cool boss. Just a discovery.

>>317977905
was just gonna post this shit. after an hour i eventually gave up and looked online
"In here is a tragedy---
art thou player or audience?
Be as it may, the end doth remain:
all go on only toward death.
The first words at thy left hand:
a false lunacy, a madly dancing man.
Hearing unhearable words, drawn
to a beloved's grave---and there,
mayhap, true madness at last.
As did this one, playing at death,
find true death at the last.
Killing a nameless lover, she
pierced a heart rent by sorrow.
Doth lie invite truth?
Doth verity but wear the
mask of falsehood?
Ah, thou pitiful, thou
miserable ones!
Still amidst lies, though the end cometh not,
wherefore yearn for death?
Wilt thou attend to thy beloved?
Truth and lies, life and death:
a game of turning white to black
and black to white.
Is not a silence brimming with
love more precious than flattery?
A peaceful slumber preferred to
a throne besmirched with blood?
One vengeful man
spilled blood for two;
Two youths shed tears for three;
Three witches disappeared thusly;
And only the four keys remain.
Ah, but verily...
In here is a tragedy---
art thou player or audience?
There is nothing which cannot
become a puppet of fate or an
onlooker, peering into the cage."

There are 9 people between them, so add one of those to those 9 and you get half the circle, so the total is 20.
stupid. after the middle of a gunfight you seriously thing the next good idea is to make a player figure out he needs a bunch of bricks?
>>317955904
Ok I know that this is has been a long time meme but there was this one time when one of these doors was actually fucking bugged. The door literally could not open. The puzzle combination was perfect. After the "correct" combo didn't work I literally tried every combination possible and it wouldn't open. It wasn't just some random dungeon either, it was a pretty important one. I dropped the game then and there and then a few months later when I felt like playing again I opened the door and moved on.
>>318006078
1 or 4. the positions are never defined outside of being evenly spaced, or if a person is in each position, merely that "each sith lord IN ATTENDANCE, must be evenly spaced in a perfect circle". it could have either 20, or 2. the 2 works as long as the attending siths are evenly spaced, and if theres only 2, it would be directly opposite
This fucking code

nigga, theres that 6 square strategy thing. use it. rotate the six squares on the left in a counter clockwise or clockwise direction, and slip in the squares on the right when they fit appropriately on the left side. just circle and pull in and out squares as needed. suppppper easy.

Imagine a game that can be beaten but only if you never have bad luck and you get every good roll ever, that's basically the story
I just looked at a guide for the puzzles in the second half of Vagrant Story.
Ain't no one got time for that shit.
>>317957161
People like you are ruining RPG genre
>>318008617
here's just a hint of how bullshit this game is from wikipedia
>The game's lack of an automap feature, which had not been invented at the time of its release, practically forces the player to draw the map for each level on graph paper (included in the box) as he walks through the 20x20 dungeon maze,[7][5] step by step – failing to do this often results in becoming permanently lost, as there are many locations in the maze that have a permanent "Darkness" spell upon the square (making the player walk blindly) or a "Teleport" spell sending the player to a new location
other shit includes monsters that can kill your entire party in one turn from full health (at any point in the game whatsoever). If this happens you are technically dead.
>>317991006
