I quit league after what they did to Gangplank and Mordekaiser, changing their gameplay and personalities significantly for no good reason. Poppy's rework is no different to those 2: they took a decent established character, and rather than expanding on it, gutted her and replaced "tough girl" with "giggling cheerleader"

I was a full time Morde main for about 2 and a half years prior to the rework.
In the patch directly for the rework, in terms of Ranked winrates, Mordekaiser had a 50% winrate in all ELOs. He was a balanced champion. He could be played and be somewhat useful in every role bar support and jungle [although longer time Morde mains than me have jungled him]. He was one of the most team-independent champs in the game: If your team is feeding, a good Mordekaiser takes advantage of this by killing the most fed player and using their ghost to bring about a victory.
After the rework he became the second most consistently banned champion after Skarner, was restricted almost entirely to the ADC role, and became fully dependent on the skill of his teammates to catch targets, while needing a support to function properly.
and that's when I quit League of Legends. Blatantly stupid and counterproductive decisions like that. Right after they turned Gangplank into a giant edgelord.

The model rework went from a great looking model to a Neanderthal with giant hands, and then later on into an even grosser looking fat thing which looks more like Sion than what he originally looked like. If they were going to pull such a drastic series of changes, they should have given us a Traditional skin.
Character wise, they went from a one-dimensional jolly pirate stereotype to a one-dimensional grimdark pirate stereotype. Considering the proliferation of super serious men in League, I far preferred the latter.

The one thing I wanted from the rework was for his cannonball barrage to feel like your enemies were actually being hit by cannon, and they didn't do that except when you reach lategame. But the barrel mechanic is cool.

They changed fundamentaly nothing, just removed her good parts and put gimmicks in.
Instead of gaining an armor steroid for early jungling, you get a shitty buckler that flies somewhere, you waste time catching it every 15 seconds and gain a shitty shield.
Instead of being able to dive towers or focus on the carry with her ult, "you can now send people across the map xD". Why?
When it comes to actual practical things, like ganking, he's exactly the same, except worse. You still only have the semi-gimmicky E as a form of ganking. Except now your Q doesn't guarantee damage. They need to turn EVERYthing into a skillshot nowadays, even auto-attack enchantments.
Why does a mobile melee champion have a 2 part ground explosion ability with no range or area that everyone who isn't stunned always easily dodges?
It's a good attack for Vel'Koz because he more easily stuns you and can use that 2-explosion attack to zone you out of something or to put you into a position to take his Q in the face. What advantage is there for Poppy to have her Q get a delayed 2 explosion? None.
I hate her remake. Her gameplay is exactly the same. Her Q is much, much, much shitter especially in hectic teambattles or any chase. Her armor steroid and her damage blocking passive transformed into a gimmicky useless 15% shield mechanic that you'll almost never get in hectic teambattles or chases. Her E and R diving combo is gone. R combos with NOTHING

Those lines are low-rate Ed thatch "Blackbeard" and pirates and privateers could be argued as being the modern origin of edge, since being a scary/batshit insane motherfucker was essentially the only way to keep your essentially mostly shanghaied and underpaid/not paid at all crew in some fucking order between the months of starvation and brief moment of glory.
Certainly not a "golden era" pirate since this was essentially a formative period in which most pirates were actually privateers or got to live off fat Ducat bucks, but in the leaner later years most pirates deliberately garnered edgy-as-fuck reputations in order to help secure better and easier returns on piracy and to keep men in line.
There too is an aspect of seeing galley capture warfare coming into its prime. When you think of naval combat you would generally imagine ships being sank en masse, the truth is that actually great efforts were made to capture a ship with cargo intact. Most privateers were kitted out with lots of anti-infantry weaponry in order to shed enemy numbers (often decks stacked with soldiers just to stop exactly this shit) enough to force them to surrender and steer their ship into friendly poors for scuppering and sale of cargo, and/or reuse of their vessel.
TL;DR Yes pirates in the later era were edgemeisters.

I guess its cool but I wish Riot would try to keep the quality of their game consistent. I've pretty much stopped playing League and MOBAs all together recently because they are painfully dull now and draining to me, but when they dropped the lore all together I was pretty disappointed in how they kinda just... did it. They are re-working a lot of together but it still feels pretty half-baked, and thats super evident with Poppy because she's just a huge change in character.

To give you some context on how really edgy he is in the lore, he "draws deeply intricate bone carvings into live, awake captives as a work of art" and spends hours in the lore pontificating on how bone carving is a lost art. GP's writing and voice acting is terrible, anyway. Absolute Coldsteel tier trash. Sion's gone from an Arnie caricature to just yelling all the time about killing, although it was an improvement in that area because he really did feel like just a joke. In both cases they didn't really add anything they couldn't have done while still keeping the original personality of the character intact.

I think you fail to realize that the naruto-tier lore for Poppy fits a yordle quite well. I mean yordles are supposed to be campy and whimsical as a race, which is why people like most of them in the first place. I think it's poetic to be searching for a hero to give a weapon you're carrying around, but in the journey, you learn to use the weapon so well you might as well become the hero yourself.

Gangplank has been the best he's ever been. He's one of the only re-works which has been successful. His q still makes bank his oranges are the same. Now he doesn't have some useless skill and it's been replaced with murder barrels that one-shots everyone that's not a tank. Why? I played Dota Allstars and then Dota 2 for years and when the game and Valve started their downward spiral I had enough.
Dota isn't even a difficult game to play in terms of the heroes, the depth lies in all the interactions (with heaps of exceptions that don't even make sense, there is no consistency), juke points and other shit more tied to the actual map than the game itself.
With a proper tutorial (or even tutor) system the overall player skill would skyrocket because the game isn't actually difficult to play.
