Boston was actually done very well. The only issue is that when you get into the city, it seems a little too dense in the sense that one street is occupied by raiders, and then not even half a block away, there's a gunner outpost, and immediately around the corner there's super mutants buttfucking each other.

Fallout 4 suffers a lot from borderlands syndrome with the let's increase levels and then inflate those attack/HP/resists stats a bit.
The dumb part is that the armor doesn't do much if you picked rifle since you'll probably have 30%+30% armor penetration or some shit at high levels making rifles just much better than other weapons.
On vanilla NV they at least kept some sort of semblance to a working weapon system: Armor did flat damage reduction, guns that used the same ammo generally dealt similar damage. That way shotguns and SMGs were good at mowing down zom-feral ghouls, cazadors and random animals while high caliber rifles would punch through high DT armor and be able to deal damage through say an opponent with power armor while shotguns and smg would just bounce off it.
Energy weapons were made better as well on a later patch when they were given inherit ignores portion of DT on a later patch.
On Fallout 4 we're back to old armor again, with the retarded lmao upgrading chamber somehow makes the ammo more lethal, where using certain weapons was an absolute fucking waste of ammo. Like for example .45s in SMGs when Combat Rifles used those as well and dealt 3x damage per shot or .308s on revolver or bolt pipes when hunting rifle straight up did more. It's fucking dumb.
>>317877862

The worse part is that most guns aren't worth using. For example I'd expect that a shotgun should be great against the bug enemies, or the mirelurk babbys, but I'm better off rolling deep with the semi-auto combat rifle chambered in .45 for literally everything.
Armor piercing rounds aren't even worth using. All they had to do was copy STALKER in how to handle the different ammo types holy fuck.

Thank god there's a perk that allows you to breathe and not take radiation damage whilst in the water, otherwise people would bitch how it covers a good portion of the map.
I like the Mojave because it feels like an actual place. There's a logic behind where everything is and settlements, of various sizes, are found along trade routes. I like that.
I have the capacity to like stuff like FO3, and maybe 4 I have no idea what that map is like, where it's a disconnected, disjointed series of setpieces that you discover by wandering around.
For the purposes of serious storytelling and role playing, I enjoy the former infinitely more, but there are limitations to that writing and design philosophy that don't allow for the super cool or interesting modules of entertainment that the latter is conducive to.
I am really sick of NV posting lately. I love NV, but I am really tired of all the intentionally inflammatory threads.

The portions of the game that they got to are pretty awesome though anon. It's really easy to tell what things still needed polish, such as the BOS. The options in speech narrow, the quests get simpler, and stuff feels more disjointed.
For example Westside. The game never really connects you well to westside, you kinda just wander over there eventually and its mostly forgetable. If you look at the map outside, it looked like they were going to design westside to take up much more space and really going to make it into a quest hub.

Why does every such game have impassable fences/mountain ranges/YOU CANT GO THERE HURR INVISIBLE WALL as a map border? It could just have an exponentially increasing difficulty gradient past the areas you're intended to visit. So if you wanted to leave the map, you'd have to go through a wasteland fighting increasingly overly difficult enemies and facing insane levels of radiation. Making a kilometer or two of nothing but empty wasteland with no points of interest and shit that rapes youpast which the game would instakill you for obviously using tgmwould be a much better design and a much better way to force the player to stay on the map.

Both got really screwed by the Legendary system.
If you find a legendary pipe pistol, you can make it into a rifle, an automatic, a sniper, whatever fits your build.
If you find a legendary board it's useless.
And then there's unarmed, which only has 4 weapons, so your chances of stumbling upon an unarmed weapon with a good legendary effect are hilariously low.
Playing unarmed basically means rushing either the deathclaw gauntlet from the quest or the power fist from Swan.

Yeah, no kidding, there's like 5 different guns in this game and everyone just drops variations of them. Even when you go fight high level enemies they still drop shit like "short hunting rifle." I had fun with the missions, but once I finished a lot of them...I just had no urge to explore like I did in New Vegas. The weapons in this game are whack as fuck.

>>317902891
Obviously both would be better but it's clear the game was released a little early and they only had so much time. So between the two I'm glad we got more function over aesthetics.

>i hope we get a kellogg dlc
most likely because the base game never went anywhere with special k's brief possession of NickV
>>317905064
yep, the map is much better then previously, at the very least because there is now a lot of vertical movement, you dont feel like an ant running on a sheet of paper, I mean come on the corvega plant - the very first location you go to has a huge roof with ladders, extra rooms and shit all over the place, running around there and having a long firefight (starting on survival made the early game pretty hard, especially since I did not know back then that the game has a cover system) was actually, geniunely fun, too few games let you move on the vertical axis
people also legit make things up to shit on the game, like claiming that you cant sort things in the UI. or that you no longer can drag people and objects around
>>317884635
>desert is too desert-like
I have do not have an image appropriate for this level of autism
>>317905171
there is partial scaling, some locations have fixed level ranges, so for example the very first location - lexington will always have low level enemies, while the glowing sea does scale, but only to a limited extend meaning that the enemies will outlevel you
basically its something like this:
location X - all fixed level (mostly places around sanctuary)
location Y - a range something like 10-20 levels, the actual level within that range depends on yours but if you are say level 5, the lowest the enemies can go is 10 so they are still higher level then you even if they scale
>>317872283
they didnt even develope it
>>317883495
>>317883978
I have to ask, anon. How does it feel knowing that you're playing into Bethesda's hands by finishing their deliberately unfinished game for them? Those dynamic shadows look great, it's a shame they're wasted on the steaming shitpile that is Fallout 4.
I mean, it's obvious that they're going to start selling settlement items, armor, and weapons in 2016. The EULA specifies that only mods that use existing game materials must be distributed for free, everything else is presumably free game when they roll out paid mods in 2016.Mark it.
>>317905649
So do they only level in health, and equipment is entirely scaled? I could believe that; I'd never notice since pipe guns don't ever do enough damage to hurt you and take forever to kill any enemy regardless of level.
>be level 18
>wander into army training camp armory
>exit later
>legendary sentry bot lv38
BEEPY NO AAAAAAAAA
>>317905887
I think so, I really doubt that the fuckers have any kind of perks or whatever, so the thing that scales the most is definetely the equipment, though armour is limited by their type, which is why you see raiders have freaking fat man but still wearing crappy raider armour
I think thats also how skyrim handles some enemies because for example spiders had a max level of like 10 or something but elder vampires had a range of something like >25, so they would kill a lvl 1 character in one hit
keep in mind I might be badly/mistakenly remembering the actual level values but hopefully it gets the point across
>>317904889
Denser, yeah, and definitely in improvement upon 3; but it has the same problem where locations seem to be distributed randomly, and don't seem to be cohesive in the slightest. Of course, part of that could be down to how few towns there are in favour of
>YOU build it YOURSELF!
>>317905887
equip is scaled. in a kind of random manner. by equips I mean armor they drop. the guns will pretty much always be same, except theyll magically do more damage to you cause the enemy is higher level and then still be shit when you go to pick them up.
there's like multiple variants of leather armor depending on level.

The only reason that looks bad is because there's no atmospheric lighting based off of the things light hits, so everything is either lit or unlit by a source. Light isn't just jagged ellipses, if they made it more smooth and added reflection and ambient lighting then it would look great, unfortunately it's not necessarily worth the resources compared to just making the lighting static.
>>317907005
Mirelurk Queens aren't even that strong, they go down fast it's just that acid that hurts. It's retarded that they expect you to believe a Mirelurk Queen destroyed a heavily manned and fortified castle. If it were an Legendary Albino Mirelurk Queen on the other hand.
>>317902352
