Servers have a laughably slow refresh rate, meaning hits take slightly longer to register. Enjoy getting killed around corners a lot. For comparison, TF2 has 60 ticks and CS:GO has something around 120 or some crazy number.

Tickrate, I.E. how often the game processes movement and hit registration across the network. Games with absurdly low tick rates (like Overwatch) have dogshit hitreg because what you're seeing on-screen has very little to do with what's actually going on on the server. It's like trying to shoot accurately against a strobe.
Shit tickrate is why more recent Battlefield games have such trash hitreg, by way of example.

Man, stuff like this in games worries me. I played on the weekend and I think I did alright, but a buddy of mine was getting furious with our teammates and giving many of them poor ratings after each game because they didn't do well, he thought.
But they were probably just shit because it was the weekend beta and they were new players. Is the rating system going to negatively affect players this way? Is there going to be some kind of punishment if you get too many low ratings because, say, you were experimenting with characters you haven't used much and were trying to improve?

This past weekend I almost exclusively played soldier 76 this past on attack and would go 30+ kills and 5 or less deaths but idk if it was shitty teammates not following up or maybe he's just not impactful enough because i only won like 2 out of 6 games on attack.
Did the same thing on defense with torbjorn with 1/2 to 1/4 the kills and double the deaths and I didn't lose a single game on defense throughout the whole weekend.

I don't worry too much about class balance because everyone has access to all classes at any time, so if I'm fed up with someone on their side using an OP class I can just switch to it myself and level the playing field
what's more worrying for me is that matchmaking seems to have no problem putting a 6-man premade team (who know each other, communicate and work together well) against a ragtag group of randoms (who do not do any of that). that's a much bigger problem.

I've gotta say the only character that stuck out quite a bit was Mei, outside of that everyone seemed to be rather balanced.
But yeah, I won most of my offense games do to shitty teamwork and people not knowing when to press forward and won most of my defense games for the same reason.
Oh actually one imbalance is the final objective push. Defense spawns way too close and way too fast. That's about it though

The 20 tick rate shit turned me off hard as well as the sloppy animations. Other then that the only gripe i seem to have is its harder to be the better player. Like outside of a few characters that are mobility based its hard to find mechanics/plateaus to break ahead from mediocre players since there is less to master/polish.

Not difficult to be effective with him but it's on the same tier as Demo pipes.
Sure you can be effective as a Junkrat, or you can be exceptional. Air shot Phara's, trap charging Reinhardts, pop Reinhardts up into your team with your explosive so your team can murder him, trap in places to detect people in your backlines or around corners, bouncing them off of sloped areas into a good spot.
There's a lot of play attention in Junkrat that takes a while to get good at, same with Demoman outside of sticky bombs.

People need to understand that is a casual game is targetting towards casuals.
Why learn how to rocket jump when you can just press a button? Why pay attention to your reserve ammo or you fall height when we can just remove ammo and fall damage from the game? Why worry about dying when your Ult% doesn't decrease on death? There's no respawn waves becasue kiddies don't want to wait more than 5 seconds to play again. There's no killfeed so people can't see you getting killed. There's no scoreboard do other people can't see how worthless you're being.
Once you get that this game is just about dicking around and pulling off some cool moves you'll enjoy it. Once you start taking it seriously you're gonna have a bad time.
And yes there are some competitive elements but it's mostly just team comp.

Got in and played a lot this weekend and it's really fun with friends, as expected though the randoms were awful. All the characters so far are unique and have their own playstyle that you have to learn and be able to counter while being able to play as a team is the main factor determining who wins.
Downsides?

Appealing character design is pretty much all for the marketing of a game. It's mostly why the game is getting hyped. You don't seem to understand that you can switch characters mid game to hard counter anyone. Mei is such a hard counter to tracer, block her with ice wall, freeze her and she's dead, or if you want to have an even easier time, flash bang her as Mcree and just fan her to death. D.va is great counter to Bastion on the payload, either go in and tackle him off or throw an ultimate down and watch them scatter like cockroaches. These are just a handful of solutions to these issues, just remember you can changer your character at any time.

Its considered big because its one of the first games people download when they get Steam, but if you actually looked at how many of those people play for more than 2 hours you'd find a frightening number of people who haven't, add the number of players who just use it for trading and its even more so. All the updates and ranked are just life support for a dying game.
They aren't willing to do anything cool or interesting any more, just add endless amounts of cosmetics and shitty weapons. The grappling hook is an exception and I've been actually having some fun with it, but it will likely be neglected by the devs pretty soon in favour of the classic more balanced game modes. Its been seven years anon, its had a good run.
