I did a lot of side quests and have now beaten the main quest. I have got to say, I feel pretty fucking disappointed. Rode the hype train all the way till maybe 6 hours into the game when I started realizing that the world is incredibly empty and boring. Every decision and action, including building settlements and maintaining them for whatever reason, is incredibly tedious and boring and pretty much pointless.
Seriously, as soon as I beat the main quest (which was like 6 quests in total...) I've lost any desire to play this shit.

If you have Max Endurance and Mysterious Serum, you can survive the radiation their without Power Armour. Rad Away or a Hazmat suit.
Ghoulish Perk, Solar Powered Perk and Jesus Heal perk make you a living tank.

There are two Perks in the Luck Tree that give Ammo and Caps. There is another perk in the Charisma Tree that is essentially discounts and more stock.
I sell every bit of Ammo that isn't Missiles or Minigun Ammo. With all the money I make, I buy more Minigun Ammo. Shops refill their stock after two days.
I also have Water Purifying Farms. When you have a tonne of Water Purifiers up at each settlement. Your purified Water gets put in your workshop. Each settlement can get upwards of 50-100. After a few days, that turns into several hundred or even a couple thousand.
I also sell all of those to make more money for my Minigun and Missile Ammo.

Because it scales from Heavy Weapons and Demolitions Expert. It's the only weapon in the game, aside from Fatboy that scales from two different stats. Then you can include in all the raw % stats like Lone Wanderer and Bloody Mess. The only reason I use this instead of the Fat Boy is because Missiles are plentiful. I have 600.
My Missile Launcher does 900 Damage.

Yeah the perks are mostly boring % increases or skills that are literally useless. Max level of bottlecap scavenging or ammo scavenging doesn't seem to make a difference at all.
The few unique skills usually require 2-4 levels invested in weak % increases before you even get a decent skill. Which was kind of their way of rolling skills into perks. Instead of getting 25, 50, 75, 100 small arms skill you get 4 levels of <generic weapon class> and the final skill might add some lame effect like "more limb damage".

Because I can spare 10 power armours with fusion cores for shits and giggles, but putting them back seems like a lot of effort.
When does this game start getting good? I'm probably 3-4 hours in and it just isn't enjoyable to play at all. Like someone who really enjoys shooters tried their hand at an RPG and didn't do a very good job at making either type of game. Nothing feels right and the world is just devoid of anything interesting so far

So i sided with the institute and after the main quest I often help in small battles between them and other factions.
But then i was exploring a building that had funny, non agressive robots in it. Anyway my synth comrades come in the door, greet me, and then slaughter all the passive robots.
I was mad, cause like, i'm exploring and doing my lone wolf thing over here, and they just bust in unannounced and turn the place into a goddamn shooting alley.
So i shot all of them.
Now, when I'm out exploring, synths are always following me and trying to kill me. I"m still friends with the ones at the checkpoints, and the institute is still cool with me coming and going.

I utilize stealth so I went with the Lone Wolf perk or whatever it's called, but other than that you want to pick up the more melee damage in the strength three and then the various sneaking perks from agility followed by the crit stuff in luck, since you'll be spending a lot of time in VATS.
Blitz is the perk that breaks the game, rank 8-9 agility, gives your VATS melee attacks A LOT longer ranger and the second rank increases your damage based on how far away you are. It turns you into a teleporting juggernaut.

Does Power Armor respawn at all? Ive found several piecemeal suits and one or two full suits of various types, but I've been playing for a long time and haven't seen them ever come back. Is it just a one time thing for each location with rng armor pieces?
Also scrounger is probably the best perk choice I made, took it early on and now I have 70+ Fusion Cores despite using power armor constantly and thousands of every ammo type barring stuff like plasma and EMCs.

Some quests are really, really neat though. And they have some amazing characters attached to them.
Nick Valentines quests, Hancocks, Ironsides, Pickmans, just to name some of my favourites.

Scrounger perk for finding free fusion cores then science (INT) and armorer (STR) perks for making power armor mods. It doesn't really have any requirements, it's meant as a temporary mech-suit powerup but they fucked up on balancing fusion cores.

There's not much to spec, honestly. You can make full use of it no matter what perks you have. But, if you want to upgrade it then you'll need armorer and science. Fusion cores last longer with a perk in the intelligence tree. And at the end of the strength perk line there's a perk to add some functionality to your power armor like staggering upon sprint, but that's not necessary.
So yeah. Armorer and science is all you really need to make full use of it.

The last perk is amazingly fun in Strength with Power Armour.
But honestly, just get some Endurance Perks. Then get the Strength Perks late game because Power Armour is OP at ALL TIMES.
I didn't use power armor at all for the first 100 hours or so. Been collecting fusion cores this whole time.
Then i found that full set of X-01 on top of that building so i upgraded it all the way and now i've been walking around burning through my 120+ fusion cores and loving the fuck out of it.
How i made it 100 hours without the use of a jetpack, i'll never forgive myself.

scrounger is literally a waste of perk points, same with the other bottlecap equivalent. Agility/Luck & low Intelligence build is the best way to play through this game. You can loot/buy weapons with higher tier mods, stash them until you get a good roll on a legendary weapon which makes weapon modding a waste of perks. Intelligence is essentially useless.

ok, so I have not yet seen the pyrdwn, been doing some side questing and am level 62 with max savant and 10 luck 1 int.
Most quests have a ~35% chance of leveling me from turning them in; usually I get a level during the quest and another at the end, once I got a level during the quest, a level from the boss, and then 2 levels from turning it in. I went from 45 to 49 in 15 min.
