>40 FPS in AC: Syndicate with Low Settings

Is this thing obsolete already? I don't think that I have the cash to keep spending $300 every year on a new video card.
>>
What's the rest of your machine like?

Also, both of those games are terribly optimized.

>>40 FPS in AC: Syndicate with Low Settings
Wow really?
I get like 40-60 on high settings (environment on very high) on a comparable GPU.
You must have a pretty mediocre CPU.

why didn't you sell it and get a 970? that's what i did 6 months ago. even a 960 with the latest nvidia drivers beat the 770.
>>
>>317750605
Probably exaggerating a bit here but it depends on where the camera is pointed I guess.

Although I do get framerate drops during the cinematics, which desyncs the audio from the visuals.

>>317751524
3.5 tho.

Although seeing Arkham Knight with framerate drops on a 980 Ti didn't help either.

I'm not talking about spending it on a graphics card. I'm shocked you can't save up that amount in over 300 days. That's less than $1 a day.

the 3.5 thing is blown out of proportion by amdfags and people thinking they could buy a $300 gpu and play 4k games at 60 fps.

i can play fallout 4 1440p and get 60+ fps almost all the time on high settings. even in diamond city.

970 can oc like a beast.
>>
>>317753646
Come back when you have a site that shows the settings retard. We all know GTA 5 doesn't have settings presets.
>>
>>317751927
AMD can't cripple their cards the way nvidia does; they need to keep the few costumers they have left happy.

Nvidia on the other hand will always do this and idiots will continue to buy their crap.

I bought a custom OCed r9 290 for 200 bucks last month, shit performs on par of a freaking 980 (Go read benchmarks if you don't believe me). IT PERFORMS LIKE A CARD MORE THAN TWICE ITS PRICE.

But you idiots will continue to buy 400+ dollars cards, 200+ dollars processors, expensive ram, when you can have a 4k 60fps machine for less than a grand.

>Why does every benchmark that I see have Nvidia cards outperforming AMD cards then?
Maybe you're blind?
Nvidia in the sub-$300 market provides basically no competition unless you're a super poorfag and need something like a 750 Ti.
>>
>>317754305

Because there's obviously collusion with nVidia to create benchmarks that specifically favor their cards over AMD cards.
>>
>kepler
nvidia gimped them to force other nvidia-only users to upgrade. they'll probably do the same with maxwell when pascal comes out.

>all those 980tifags
>>
>>317754430
This image is a good example though.

The R9 390 performs just under the GTX 970, however I can buy a 970 for less than a 390.

Why would I bother with AMD?
>>
>>317754650
>I can buy a 970 for less than a 390
390 is cheaper unless theres deals or sales
>>
>>317754553

The funny thing is, people will think you're trolling, but you're exactly correct.

Witcher 3 and Fallout 4 (both Gameworks games) used 64x tesselation on hair and light shafts, meaning only newer maxwell cards could withstand it without huge fps drops. There is no option to reduce tesselation amount, only quality. People have been asking Nvidia to allow setting max tesselation amounts for years, something that AMD allows.

this year had a suddenly high attrition rate with nvidia cards with respect to the videogames released. I think nvidia dropped the ball with driver updates. before 2015, my games ran pretty strong. I tried playing Mortal kombat X with a gtx 570 and it pooped the floor. I had to get a new card

Asscreed keeps getting worse both technically and writing-wise every year, who buys that shovelware shit? Also Ubisoft is bribed to push Console Parity meaning they purposefully sabotage their PC games in the cases where simple dev ineptitude wasn't enough to hamstring it

wait until that shit is on $5 Steam Sale. Even then, meeeh, asscreed is shit and Bamham Knight was apparently by far the weakest entry into the game series and relied entirely on the Batmobile gimmick--the gimmick which crashed framerate into a sub-10 slideshow

I disagree overall - GTA V has a lot of high res textures for objects most developers don't bother with (like all the shit lying on paths and roads) combined with enormous draw distances makes for a genuinely taxing game.

The game looks a lot better than most.

I can handle everything from the previous gen fine, but I'm starting to feel locked out of this current gen of vidya.

A machine to max out CRYSIS would've been a fucking supercomputer back when it came out.

Mostly it's that developers are becoming lazier and/or shittier. They rely on hardware getting stronger and stronger as a crutch to cover for the fact they know less and less how to actually make video game.

But that makes sense. Video game dev is a SHIT job and if you have superior skills you use them in an different programming area where you don't get treated like shit by your corporate publisher overlord and you probably get paid about 3x more. Autistic computer whizzes like Carmack don't go into vidya anymore.

I'm looking for an upgrade and can't decide between a gtx 970 or an amd r9 390, just trying to get the best bang for my buck. Also should I upgrade to the fx 8350 sometime after?

Saw some youtube vids earlier and it runs Metro and Tomb Raider 2013 at 60fps maxed out.
A friend of mine has the older model, with the 870m, and Dying Light's demo ran like dogshit on it.
Couldn't test anything else since I don't own games my computer can't handle, obviously.

>>317760648
I love the Lenovo y50's aesthetics. There's a LOT of people at uni who have it, surprisingly, so I might borrow somebody's for a bit to see how things run.
However, I also hear the 970m is a lot more efficient than the 870m, and I'm not sure how important that difference will be down the line.

Sager looks nice, but a bit hefty. I have an Asus G46 now, the thickness and weight makes it annoying to lug around. The msi is around 4 pounds and is super thin, which blows my mind, and will probably be a deciding factor.

(Thanks for the suggestions senpaidesu)

It's okay I guess, but it's not really a good investment

This may sound stupid but let's be realistic. If you can play the game on medium settings above 30 fps, you are already ahead of "next gen consoles."

Even though my GTX 770 as well seems to struggle with the newer games, it tends to still be able to run most things on high at 50-60 fps.

Granted I had to play The Witcher 3 on high at 40 fps, but still, this beats the console pace.

When you start seeing your graphics card or CPU in the minimum requirements section for most games, then it may be time to upgrade.

Just swapped my motherboard last week without a fresh install.

Worked fine but keep in mind you'll lose your "free" Windows 10 and will have to pirate it.

As someone who got rid of a 970 and got a 980ti, it you're seriously saying that you max games with the 970 and don't experience micro stutter regularly and major stutter after prolonged play, you're lying through your teeth. There's a reason Nvidia got sued over it.
>>
>>317768732

Even shit drivers would be better than what they have on their bleeding edge shit some times. Sometimes it can take months for them to release drivers that actually use the capabilities of cards they're churning out.

And, of course, those drivers are barely optimized. And by the time those drivers ARE getting to a point they aren't dog shit, it's been 3 years and now it's time for the NEW chipset and the cycle begins all over.

studies show the vast majority of people are highly "racist" when choosing partners. women are actually more selective by race than men, who are open to almost every ethnicity in comparison. still, as expected it's advantageous to be white and disadvantageous to be black, especially if you're a black woman.

My budget is tight, i don't care about maxing everything on ULTRA as long as the games can have a stable fps at 1080p with mixed high-ish settings.

should i buy a r9 380 or a gtx 960?
