Remove health bars, instead switch to CoD-style jelly-on-the-screen that regenerates when you find cover.

This is literally already confirmed.

They're going to make a really decent game in a really good amazing new engine that utilizes up to 8 cores at maximum efficiency and uses Vulkan so it runs butter smooth on even toasters with incredible graphics.

Then they will make it so mods are tied to DRM and can only be purchased on Bethesdanet using their new Bethesdanet client because the game will not release on steam. If it detects anything that could be anti-DRM stuff it will instantly permanently ban your whole bethesdanet account and you can't appeal it. The ban will be tied to your IP address.

>>317740110
I think it's about time they throw their ill gotten jew gold into development of good voice synthesis. If they make that work, there can be a lot more spoken dialogue with much less taken disk space. They could make Morrowind-level writing again, and each character would be able to say more than 2 sentences.

I honestly think the Fallout series benefitted from having a voiced MC because, let's face it, all the Fallout protagonists in the past have sucked.

Fallout 3 was the only one that wasn't horrible IMO, but even then they never explain why he's always an asshole to people.

Ok, but now here's my question on 4.

Can I make a retarded do-gooder who's literally incapable of speaking correctly and uses his fists to beat down everything in the waste?

Can I make a dastardly villain who's favorite past times include planting c4 on random strangers and ruining the lives of as many people he can find?

Can I make a slaver?

Can I make an anti-slaver?

Can I go work for some shitty chink city in the middle of nowhere?

Can I do a multitude of other things, including siding with the main villain?

Oh wait, I can't do any of that because FO4 is a shitty RPG.

Make it Skyrim 2 but with even better mod support. Tout how great the game will integrate mods. It sounds great but really you're just outsourcing making the game to the fans.
>>
>>317740110
When you're dubbing lines for your MC, you gotta make economy of dialogue. You can't possibly hope for the long, articulated dialogue trees you would have with a silent MC in a world as big as that of TES, especially with the idea of multiple voices for different races. A work that vast would arguably require more time than that which goes to final script to launch day.

So what do you do? You cut dialog trees to 4 static options, all of which are basically positive/negative/mixed/inquire. Your MC now has a voice but no personalily. I.e. another step from thoughtful content to gimmicky casualbait.

If they ever go full Fallout 4 on TES VI and they will the result will be much worse than we're already seeing and it will

Also quests features in mods are now awkward as fuck because either
a) some amateur who doesn't even speak English as his first language is trying to dub the MC
b) MC is now suddenly mute
>>
>>317738514
>combat skip button(an improvement if it's skyrim tier tbqh, family)

Seriously I don't care how many times people say "gamebryo is a good engine they just don't use it well"

It has such an unbelievably disgusting reputation that they NEED to replace it because it immediately turns off people just by hearing the word.
>>
>>317741470
>It sounds great but really you're just outsourcing making the game to the fans.

As long as the price is minimal, I'm all for this. Give us a core game module and a fuckhuge toolkit to create a new game out of, and tell us to have at it. Just don't expect people to pay 60 bucks for it.

Make the game like 10-15 bucks, the game+dev kit like 40, and off you go.
>>
>>317738961
Your background in Skyrim and Oblivion were already predetermined. You were the chosen one who was either locked up in prison in Oblivion, and in Skyrim you were some guy who was captured along the border who happens to be the chosenborn.
>>
>>317740110

if they were going to make a voiced protag I wish they'd make it like baldurs gate and shit had it

Bunch of selections, but the voices only voice general shit, combat diologue, random comments, etc.

voicing the whole game, and/or making people deal with only 1 voice which may not fit how they want their character to be at all just isn't practical.
>>
>>317741340
But that's my point exactly.
In 4 you actually HAVE a personality. You're a prewar dad/mom searching for your son. You actually know who you're playing as.
In the past games you could possibly be one of those people you listed but you have no way of knowing because the protagonists has always been written so blankly.
>>
>>317741763
Neither of those are backstory. They are current events and fate. Backstory is why you were chucked in jail and why you were crossing the border.
>>
>>317738514
They're just gonna make a movie out of it.
>>
>>317741763
That's the thing you were just "some guy" who happened to be the chosen one, the rest of your backstory was up to you. You could have been a merchant, a thief, a knight, a wizard, whatever.
Fallout 4 is extremely stringent, you're a military vet and loving family man (or a lawyer and loving mom).

>I'm literally retarded and have no idea what RPG games are
>>
My thoughts on how they could make the game as annoying as possible

> You have to feed every NPC in the game or they die
> No "wait" function, but NPCs constantly require you to "come back tomorrow evening"
> Dungeons are full of puzzles requiring complex interaction with your companion
> Companions never shut up
> Boss fights usually have several death traps that instakill the enemy, but he tends to trigger them himself by accident
>Alchemy now requires 7 rare tools that degrade quickly
>Guards will be suspicious when you carry too much, forcing you to smuggle your stuff into town.
>MC spouts one-liners in fights
> Soundtrack has 1 electronic track (not enough to make you turn off music altogether, but enough to annoy you every 30 minutes)
> Butterflies are now obstacles
>>
>>317742678
I don't need to be spoonfed the story. I just need there to BE a story. In every other fallout game the player character doesn't get any character development.
>>
>>317742979
>Alchemy now requires 7 rare tools that degrade quickly

Not him but you're missing the point
Old protags were such blank slates that they had no personality and the f4 protag has more personality
F4 in a way has a mix between a wrpg and jrpg protag
I wish they would have gone with full jrpg protag with a set look and personality along with a story driven game with player input regarding only a few critical decisions
The narrative would have benefitted
>>
>>317742382
The thing is, is that you're not supposed to be those things in fallout. Nobody wants you to, including bethesda. You're supposed to plow through the game the way they intended you to do so, and that is following the story that they wrote out.
>>
>>317739487

>>317738514
Skills? Gone.

Resources? Gone. You only have health.

Races? Gone. You can only make the race of whatever province they decide to put the game in. It'll probably be one of the human ones.

Armor? Only two slots. One for your body, one for your head.

Dialogue? Gone. You get a wheel.
>>
>>317739263
Then explain Skyrim.
>>
>>317743591
The problem with this line of argumentation is that you always ALWAYS end up at the point where you just have to go "video games are not a good medium for true RPGs" because the story is pre-made and cannot be customized while you're playing

>>317743664
An RPG should allow you to choose your strengths and weaknesses. Your choices should have consequences. Otherwise, it's just a bland, samey experience, exactly like Skyrim (and now Fallout 4) was.
It means limiting the game based on the player's choices, but that adds depth to the experience.
>>
>>317743840
I didn't mean it
But think about it, nobody remembers the blank slate character, everyone always remembers the jrpg protag or predefined character
Which wrpg characters are remembered? Commander Shepard? He has a VA and a canon appearance along with a set race
Gerat of Rivia? VA, preset unmodifiable appearance, and set race and origin
And many jrpg protags are remembered because they're memorable and that's caused by their personality and appearance and well everything being predetermined
>>
Realisticly though, they'll probably have a voiced protag, but this time with more voice options, like one for each race. Spellcrafting will probably be back because of the "fucking ePiC!" customization aspect of it, but there will probably be less spells.
>>
>>317743750
That's why a good RPG will add a lot of branching and choices to the story. Compare NV to 3. Obviously, there's only so many story paths you can make for a game, but NV had a ton of choices that all effected how the story played out. 3 had a small handful, and there were really only 2 or 3 that changed the ending.
>>
>>317744484
Who gives a fuck about what people remember, it's supposed to be a personal experience.
>>
>>317744017
It's funny that the real reason Cyrodil is a grassland is that Bethesda didn't want to create all the assets required for a jungle terrain.

If 6 takes place in Elsweyr there will be another "mistranslation."

>>317741950

Atleast in Fallout:NV you could basically end the game however you wanted
>>
>>317744484
There's a place for predetermined characters, and there's a place for blank slates. Not every game should have predetermined characters, and not every game should contain blank slates.
Not to mention the Fallout series usually has really strong factions and NPCs, things which have suffered when they've changed focus to the player character.
It's a game series about the consequences of people's actions in the past that created a harsh wasteland, and 3 and 4 have practically removed consequence from it. It's an action game painted in Fallout colours, but it doesn't even begin to understand what Fallout is about.

If you decide to be a dumb melee greatsword wielder you won't become a good archer until you decide to git gud at archery
I love Skyrim's system because it doesn't arbitrarily lock you out of stuff you might want to do later in the game
I can understand for example dragon age locking you out of magic because you simply weren't a mage but why can't I become a master of everything afterwards?
I'm gonna fight the archdemon right, I wanna become great in everything combat related to fight him but I can't because the game doesn't allow me to
>>
>>317745587

it atleast gives you the option to role-play the narrative however you want

you can create any character you want and role-play that character and make decisions accordingly

Most other RPG's have a pre-determined story ending

I havent played Fallout4 yet so I'll take your word for it but compare it to Witcher 3: Witcher has a pre-determined story ending where the only real choices the player makes was based on a series of rather innocuous dialogue options that popped up throughout the game.

You gain XP "from every action"
Each level up you get one skill point and one attribute point.

Skills are battle, Infiltration, and arcane.
Infiltration is pick pocket, sneak, archery, speach. warrior is all the typical melee combat and smithing stuff, arcane is mage stuff.
Putting a point in the warrior skill makes you better able to use and craft all melee weapons and armor. No more having to micro manage different perk trees or separate skills for the same theme.

You also get a point for your attributes. health which determines stamina and hit points, or intelligence which determines magicka. each point raises your attribute by ten points.

Instead of having a samey narrative tied loosely around 10000 dialog options that ultimately don't matter, you get a narrative and world that are very heavily influenced by 10 choices

I am actually very handsome and highly educated. That's why I like to play games with freedom that let me be a gross dumb cannibal....because it's a game. I don't want to live vicariously through some ex military fuck to try and feel bad ass. I want to do dumb shit that I can't do anywhere else.

>>317745910
You can make a new character if you want to explore different builds. RPGS are about choices and consequences, and letting the player do whatever they want without consequence makes it a dull experience.
>>
>>317746086
You really don't get the point of a role playing game, do you.

In a role playing game, you create a character. Their traits, personality and parts of their history are up to you. That's the entire point.

>>317739646
>>
>>317740431

Don't give them ideas
>>
Main story focuses on you allying with a faction and you can't choose sides. Cool factions are enemies; guilds don't exist so you build them yourself but they are radiant quest only without any ranks(because you build it in the first place) so it's more of a "choose what radiant quest type you like more". A lot of focus on building guilds but you can't build anything else without DLC. No more daedra quests, you get artifacts if you pray at the temple with low karma so farm travelers.
>>
Just make it like Fallout 4
>>
>>317746697
Then use your education to find rpgs that give you that freedom. They exist and are still being released every once in a while.
You seem really ignorant about vidya, of course a modern AAA rpg isn't going to cater to your niche desire.
>>
>>317743137
Thats because their RPGs which, SUPRISE SPRISE, REQUIRE YOU TO ROLEPLAY!
Go play last of us, Im sure youll enjoy that as much as you did 4.

That only works if the story is good, or if the choices they give you are worthwhile, bethesda gives you neither.

Honestly, I wish they'd just include a version where you get the objectives and go kill shit, nobody plays these games for the story.

But they do matter, that's the point. Each choice usually effects something else, from minor to extreme ways. Also, what >>317746997
said.

>you get a narrative and world that are very heavily influenced by 10 choices
You get 4 narratives that don't interact with each other until the very end

Holy Christ you are dumb as a rock.

It's a roleplaying game, you moron. Where player choice and concequence rule supreme. You fill in the empty blanks yourself, having been allowed the freedom to be a variety of different characters with differing personalities, traits and decisions. You know, actually role playing.

Skyrim and Dragon Age aren't really comparable aside from them both being RPGs and the high-fantasy elements.
>>
>>317747139
If you don't like that feature of an RPG, then don't play them. Games don't have to appeal to everyone.
What I'm saying is that choices having consequences is a feature that RPGs can excel at, and removing it makes the experience weaker.
>>
>>317747142
Now you know why they had that phrase system instead of the whole line. Even casuals would realise half the dialogue is pointless.
>>
>>317746921
What I am saying is because of the voiced protagonist you cannot be an evil dick. In past fallout games you could. The voice was in your head and your dialogue options were greater. I know there are other rpgs out there that I can choose to play and I do play them. It's just jarring to only have one voice. They didn't even bother to have different voice options or the option to turn it off.
>>
>>317747417

The small choices are the problem
Deciding to help the slavers is a big choice, blowing megaton is a big choice but they're dwarfed by a bunch of meaningless small choices that the game unfortunately takes into consideration
It's like if Stalin said thank you to the guy who brought him coffee every morning for the 20+ years he was leader of the USSR

I really REALLY hope next TES game won't be in swamps or desert.
I would be satisfied if it was just Skyrim 2.0 with more locations.

I cannot even express what a feeling it is, when there's a storm outside and you sit by your computer in warmth, looking at gorgeous Skyrim mountains, sipping your hot cocoa and pillaging corpses.
All those green hills around you, all those deep forrests with creatures you can hunt, accompanied by your trusty dog, then going back to your small hut for a goodnight sleep and nice hot steaming stew from Ysolda.

And then again, after a hard day of killing dragons and draugers, you go to a small pub and you make jokes about dwarves, while drinking honey mead, breathing in the damp air of wood and smoke.

Goddamn I love Skyrim.

I think the only reason for them not to make the population bigger, was because they would have to make (voice) more characters.
But, for example look at Witcher 3. Even the small villages were more populated than Skyrim towns, but you didn't have as many diverse characters.

But I agree with you, I want new TES game to be a masterpiece. Doesn't matter how long it takes, make big cities, make giant areas to explore, don't just copy paste shit. (Hire more voice actors than last time)

No?

Did you honestly think it was because of creative reasons that they retconned it?

They did it because they weren't up to the technical challenge of creating an elder scrolls game in a dense byzantium-ruled jungle.

And because LOTR movies had just recently come out and they wanted to tap into the generic fantasy market.

Bethesda isn't driven by any sort of creative desires. They are driven by profit and only by profit.

I'm half expecting to get some kind of new transgender gay bisexual race with rainbow hair in the next elder scrolls game

>keep the open world, even though it'll just be a graphic showcase (if that), since the point above will pretty much negate what made the open world fun in the first place
>no more interacting with unique NPCs; all non-plot characters are replaced with John/Jane Does as generic as any hold guard
>introduce generic 1980s-tier classes (thief, warrior, magician, etc.) that the player chooses at the start and cannot deviate from at any point
>make the character look a given way from the start, with equipment changes affecting stats but not appearance, a la Final Fantasy
>no more god-kings like Vivec, nor Daedra; just your generic dragon/wizard/whatever antagonist who wants to destroy and kill for no particular reason but to rule the world with an iron fist
>make every single dungeon look the same, just like the catacombs and whatnot in Skyrim and Morrowind, even though the linear story would presumably allow more variety
I could go on and on. There are so many ways that they could essentially sap the series of any unique features it's unreal; the worst part is that if they can do it, they WILL do it at some point.

>But classes actually contributed to the RPG element

They are restricting. Skyrim allowed you to pick and choose what attributes you have through leveling them up yourself.

That means you can be a a jack of all trades. You are just limited to one class. But the natural consequence is that you tend perform worse if you don't self-restrict more or less to one class. If you split between bows and one-handed, when you face a leveled boss you will have an underpowered bow and and underpowered sword instead of one powerful weapon. You can also mix and match between the old fashioned classes for a more new experience.

It makes the game about your decisions rather than the narrow choice set by the developer.

Role-playing has nothing to lose by hiding the numbers and the stats. Those don't enhance role-playing. They only exist in older rpgs because they used to be necessary.
>>
>>317752375
I literally have 0 idea what he fuck you are saying anymore. Skyrim doesn't even have classes? Neither does Morrowind or Oblivion. Idiot isn't an insult, it's literally fact. This is actually the first time you have replied to me seriously, don't act like you didn't. You're actually a child. Saying "It would help if you actually played the games" isn't any form of discussions it's simply ad hom.

I legitimately find it hard to imagine how Bethesda can dumb down the open world fantasy setting even more than they did with Skyrim, especially since its a setting which lends itself so well to complexity and depth.
>>
>>317753134
Maybe YOU should play the games. Specializations =/= restrictions. Makes it simply easier for your character to learn a given skill than others.

>Choosing a class is largely a matter of personal taste and style. Fortunately, your choice of class does almost nothing to limit the opportunities available to you for character development, plot, or gameplay. It can simply make some opportunities require more or less effort to exploit.
>>
>>317752894
>why the fuck do you want one character to do everything?

One player can't do everything. If you try that you end up weaker. It's just that Skyrim lets you do that.

If you try to use to many fighting styles at once all of them are weaker than if you dedicated to one thing. Same with stam/magi/health. Every time you upgrade stamina so you hit harder, you are wasting a potential magicka upgrade that gives you more firepower.

All the developers did was take the training wheels off.
>>
>>317747756
What you're missing here is YOU make those choices. It's up to YOU to blow up megaton or donate money to some homeless shit. Don't blame the games mechanics with your inability to control yourself.

Want to be an evil character who rapes puppies? Rape puppies and do nothing else. Nike megaton, don't donate, don't help. You can do these things because you're character is who YOU decide he should be and no one else. With a voiced protag with a clear backstory and life these options are gone. Fallout 4 suffers from this. The PC is not evil you literally cannot play him as evil. Because it's so against his character and hell in pretty sure there aren't even any objectively evil choices in the game other then selling the ghoul boy.

You are a normal moderately nice somewhat sarcastic and weary army veteran distraught over his wife's death and looking for his kidnapped son. That's fine that's even a pretty good backstory, the problem is I didn't make it. It was designed as the only possible backstory.

In Fallouy NV I played many times as many different couriers. Once I was a mercenary who worked for house as a sarcastic shitty mercenary who cared for caps and little else. I played as a cowboy who took up being a courier after his wife and unborn son died, killed by the NCR in an accident. He was a weary cowboy trying to do right in a world where right is something that gets you nowhere. He eventually cobbled together an independent New Vegas. I played as a ruthless, cold, manipulating bitch, she was an agent of the Legion in the guise of a courier sent forth to scout. Warm and friendly, pro NCR on the outside, but truly loyal to Caesar and Caesar alone.

I can do none of these things. I'll always be a nice but somewhat weary war veteran with a dead wife and kidnapped son, it doesn't matter what faction I pick or how I act because the game was designed with that character in mind.

All armor is just two pieces: The body and the helmet.
Light armor and heavy armor combined into just armor skill
All weapons combined into weaponry skill
Scrolls and Potions (except health potions) removed
Magicka removed and replaced with cooldown timer
Schools of magic reduced to Destruction (offensive spells) and Protection (defensive spells)
Merchants have unlimited cash
Directional power attacks removed (not that anyone used them anyway)
Every side quest stems from the main quest, so no need to go around looking for things to do
Carryweight replaced with inventory limit (more so to prevent you from having to scroll through 1000 different items to find what you're looking for than to actually impede you in any way)
Get gold for completing quests in general, not as an actual reward for anything
Leveling up is done at such a pace that you'll be maxed out by the time you get to the final boss
All smithing items available straight away, just need to find resources for them
Alchemy just lets you make health potions and health poisons, most ingredients are just to be sold for cash
Enchanting is done entirely through a shopkeeper from a list of pre-chosen enchantments
No more speech checks
Your character doesn't even hold conversations, he's/she's a silent protagonist and everyone else just tells him/her what to do

No, you tremendous retard cunt. The shared fantasy setting aside, the two games could not be more functionally different. They're not even the same genre, one a "tactical" party based evolution on classic CRPGs with linear level design, payer driven narrative and MMO-esque combat and the other a full sandbox first person action game with an emphasis on active combat, straightforward storytelling and mix-and-match play-styles.
Just because Deus Ex and Shadowrun Returns are both cyberpunk doesn't make them comparable, and the same holds true here.

you therefore made no point
going "nyeh, I have an imaginary point but you have to find it yourself" is not the basis of an argument
so you refused to go into an argument because you knew you were wrong
have a nice day

By making it into something you can understand.

No skills, no races, magic is 4 types (shoot fire, shoot frost, shoot shock, and heal) One story line, dialog consists of Yes and No (I'll come back and say yes later)

Answer the question. What's it like being ignorant?

Want to know something funny? I had no idea what I was saying, I was simply shitposting, that being said - I am still right.

Obsidian Entertainment were hired to create an RPG to rival Oblivion, the result is the game you mentioned which is similar class system to Morrowind, making your suggestion pointless and cementing the fact you have no idea what you are saying. Obsidian Entertainment have also worked with Bethesda.

Ignorance truly is bliss, I look forward to seeing your reply.

Thanks for proving the point that other games use the same class system then
Glad we can agree that you pretending it isn't a class system a different way was retarded

Ignorance truly is bliss.

>asks for games which uses same class system
>names game with direct links and competition to Bethesda

:^), last post on /v/, this place being terrible is probably the only thing 4chan is right about.
>>
>>317757442
Pretty much every American RPG company had "direct links" with each other and all RPGs were competing
Hell, go back a few years and you can hardly tell apart the companies during the great era of cRPGs
What a great non-valid point to end your /v/ posting career. Glad you're not coming back

And to get Paladin Brandis in the final fight

Some people like grinding in an MMO.More power to them.

Me the idea of having to grind a skill to progress a questline is a shitty mechanic.

You may consider it the height of gameplay but I disagree.

there will be a button that when you press, you get loot and it advances the story.

this is guaranteed to happen. voiced protag has ruined Fallout 4 and they'll do it from now on.

Stop saying this

It will literally NEVER happen

Todd is far, far, far too lazy to hire 10 different VAs such a heavy amount of dialouge
>>

Underrated post
>>
What I thin WILL happen:

- Voiced Protag.
- Only Human races.
- Pre-written backstory.
- Dialogue wheel

Skills will be cut down and rolled into:

Mage:
Conjuration (Illusion, Alteration rolled into here)
Destruction
Restoration
(alchemy will be split between all 3)

Warrior:
Melee
Archery
Armour (smiting will come under this as well)

Thief:
Thievery (Lockpicking, Sneak)
Speech
Alchemy
>>
>>317759983
Enchanting will be rolled between all 3 in Mage sorry.

Skyrim isn't an RPG.

Why does the gaming media and gamers accept cutting features or dumbing them down to oblivion as "accessibility"

What the fuck is so hard to understand about very basic stat systems, Is your average gamer have a lower reading ability than a 3 year old that doesn't allow them to read multiple dialogue options and instead needs to just see "yes, no, maybe"? Is your average gamer so dumb that they can't possibly do anything other than combat? That they can't understand directions?

No, of course not.

What makes people not play FO1+FO2 for example is it's dated graphics and tedious combat system, but why can't FO4 have Skills? What is so hard to understand about skills? Nothing, why can't it have the dialogue choices?

Streamlining is fixing tedious issues and making the UI more user friendly. Streamlining is not eviscerating 80% of the core mechanics.

>Says that killing is bad and should be avoided
>Do first quest for them to go into this building
>Have to loot the safe and should avoid killing the owner since they can use them
>Have fuck all sneak and a bunch of mods that makes stealth much harder

I guess it kinds of makes sense for my character, they were a pyromaniac and my perks makes everything on fire, including corpses.

>Streamlining is not eviscerating 80% of the core mechanics.
Except in the case of Elder Scrolls this is literally the case.

>Athletics
>MAGIC
>Different weapons

Skyrim is barely a shell of what Oblivion was or Morrowind for that matter. I mean the series started as a magic simulator, essentially. Look at what it is now - generic FPS/RPG.

>Scrolls and Potions (except health potions) removed

To be fair, the only potions I use are invisibility, health, magicka, regeneration and something that boosts damage like a destruction one if it's a tough fight.

Never used a scroll, they sell for a bit and usually you can get by with just the spells you have. Same applies to staves, if there were more exclusive spells tied to staves I might use them, but I'd rather blow stuff with up with my hands.
>>
>>317760727
The only reason FO1 and 2 aren't played by millennials is literally because of the stigma of the games being "hard" because they're more complex than pokemon

Also the concept of the games "not aging well", so instead of learning they just sit back and whine about how they didn't age well

>>317761952
Why would an Elder Scrolls game developed by the old Fallout devs be good? New Vegas is good because most of the people who made the old Fallout games are in Obsidian.
>>
>>317762681
Because they know how to make good RPGs? And Obsidian has more than ex-Fallout devs.

>>317763867
We've never seen an Elder Scrolls game from Obsidian, there's literally no reason to think it would be better because NV was better.
