The more I think I understand what the game's mechanics will be like, the more I come to find that there's still more to figure out. I don't even have the game in my hands and I'm drowning in its depth of customization. Frankly I'm starting to get a little scared. What if I don't have enough drive to complete it?
I went for a few months around the halfway point of Xenoblade Chronicles before continuing that.

I've been playing Xenoblade Chronicles recently. I legitimately enjoy Shulk's voicework. I admit that it's not the best voice acting in the world but things rarely are.
And it doesn't matter if someone has no range, if they're picked based on their type of voice. She doesn't need to be able to mimic Beast Wars Megatron to be able to do the kind of voice she does. Furthermore, she was picked because the type of voice she does in the game is "Classic", which is a deliberate throwback to the previous Xenoblade game, which falls in line with "being picked based on her type of voice."
It was to give players an option to have something similar to the original British voice acting if they would prefer that to the other options.

I'm not sure about that. I believe Skell upgrades have a limit, so you might still need to buy the next model once you unlock it, because it might still be stronger than a fully upgraded lower level one.

If you look at the chart in the OP, some are better suited to certain forms of combat, while others have different strengths altogether. I'm a huge mecha fan, but I love the fact that you need to unlock the skells.
Once you get a skell, and then a flight pack, the world kind of "shrinks." Starting on foot for a while gives the world a more grand and huge feel, maybe even a bit intimidating. You kinda have to jump and hike around to get to high places, it takes longer to move around, all that stuff. But then the skells open up the world even more and make it fresh again. And then the flight pack removes all the boundaries. It'd be super lame to just start with the flight pack, but building up to it seems great.

I'm hype as fuck for Skells, but frankly with all the Division and Class work that needs to be done, I'd really prefer to cut a chunk of that out of the way before getting to Skells, so having a lot of time to do so before ever getting to them sounds wonderful on its own, before ever considering the storytelling and vidya value of needing to build up to Skell, and needing to build Skells up to flight. I have no problem with that at all. TEN THINGS TO DO WHILE YOU WAIT FOR XENOBLADE CHRONICLES X IN TEN DAYS
1. Watch Gundam (or any mecha anime anyway, just ask >>>/m/ about it and see what they recommend). A new Gundam just came out, but if you are completely unaware of the anime, you can just start at the beginning with the original Mobile Suit Gundam show (or watch it abridged in three movies). I recommend watching Gundam Unicorn for the OST which is made by the same composer of Xenoblade Chronicles X, Hiroyuki Sawano.
2. Browse >>>/m/. They're one of the best boards on 4chinz. Maybe they'll also get you into toku.
3. Play Xenogears (or any of the other Xeno games). Xenogears is cheap on the PSN (and probably easy to emulate). Xenosaga is fairly difficult to find in stores from what I hear, but you can emulate an abridged version of Xenosaga 1 and 2 for the DS quite easily. Xenoblade emulates really nicely, or you can get it in stores. Its much more available and its also one of the only New 3DS exclusives.
4. Watch non-Gundam mech anime. Gundam is actually nothing like the Xeno series. Xeno games have often been about religion and philosophy. Obviously, the anime which is known for combining these two things with giant robots is of course Neon Genesis Evangelion, which was actually partially animated by the studio who animated the anime cutscenes for Xenogears.
5. Watch non-mech anime. The world in Xeno games is quite different than most mech anime. The worlds usually are more science fiction-focused JRPG worlds. Aesthetically, .hack// is probably the closest you're going to get.

6. Play other mech games than Xeno. Zone of the Enders is actually much more like Gundam than any Xeno games. I also recommend Shogo: Mobile Armor Division.
7. Play other non-mech games. Xenogears was Final Fantasy VII at one point. Both games are squaresoft JRPGs that made the genre a little more dark and mature. With the inclusion of Cloud in Smash, you should do yourself a favor and play one of the best JRPGs ever and one of the reasons we have Xenoblade Chronicles today.
8. Celebrate Thanksgiving. Your family will probably not see you for a while once you get the game.
9. Plan your black friday list and go shopping. Remember that Xenoblade is a large game and your current Wii U hard drive might not be able to hold all of the data from the game and the four downloads which will make the game faster.

Agility was one of the best stats for most characters because it not only regulated evasion, but physical and ether accuracy, if I recall correctly. For the combat, you target an enemy, enter combat mode, and begin to autoattack. You can switch from melee to ranged auto attacks whenever you like, and they have distinct benefits. The point of auto attacking is to allow you to at least be doing something to the enemy between Art cooldowns.
It operates a lot like MMO Lite. The Art Palette is a hotbar of up to eight Arts, which can be ranged offensive, melee offensive, buffs, or debuffs. Several arts will have added bonuses based on which side of the targeted enemy you use them from, or whether they follow certain other arts. As you auto attack, something called TP, or Tension Points, will build over time. This can be used to revive fallen party members, enter Overdrive, or as a cost for stronger Arts. You'll gain different bonuses depending on the last type of art you used, and have a combo counter where each successive art attack becomes even stronger than the last.
Now, aside from just auto attacks and skills, there are also Soul Voice and Soul Challenge. Soul Challenge happens at the beginning of a player-initiated battle, and randomly throughout. It's basically a quick QTE that boosts the damage of your arts, raises tension, and heals your party. Soul Voice is a more controllable, customizable, and situational form of Soul Challenge, where your party members may call out for you to use a specific class of Art, or you may call out to them under certain circumstances. In both cases, you're given Soul Challenge to heal, raise tension, and boost damage.
Monsters can have different parts of them targeted, and sometimes even broken, for additional damage, to disable troublesome attacks, or for additional loot.

There's a quest you get from an exiled father to suit up in enemy gear, sneak into an enemy base, reveal to his son that the force he fights for is corrupt in the core, then help said son fight to break out of the enemy base.
At the end of the quest there's even a sad moment where the son dies and the father rushes in and kills all the evil motherfuckers in a rush of rage.
Now take that and consider the fact that the most complex quest in Xenoblade Chronicles was "Go to this place and this place then come back here and tell me which one was better looking"
For X it's "Find a blue item and a red item then come back and tell me which one to use".

Any party works, just remember that if you use Shulk or Melia you pretty much have to play as them since their AI is fucking retarded. Reyn's AI will heavily prioritize acting like a tank so don't expect him to make good use of the Berserk aura if you try putting it on his bar. Otherwise basically anything goes. Dunban can do crazy damage and Riki is OP as fuck in basically every possible way.

I didn't watch any of the streams, but hearing about how its similarly designed like the original but having more layers to it vertically and geometry wise makes me so happy. Weather patterns they change areas up from visions, from status effects, to simple storms like rain, to areas that you would think at first would be just "The jungle continent" but it seems to be a lot more to it and I just love it.

Honestly, if it were up to me, I'd make him the main character in the sequels. I just don't want another player-created main character, especially if they're going to keep at this silent "YES OR NO?" type of thing they have going on. It just kills any scene that takes place.

Heavy better, dlc heavy skells better, Type Ares is better for all around combat, but the Heavy skells for beating bosses tends to be better so long as you have the mats. Or you can do the Diskbom glitch and out damage the Ares with any skell. Need the level 50 skells to use though.
