Well I just beat Maria so I'll give my thoughts. Ludwig was alright I beat him on my first try though. I had issues with his first form but since my main weapon is the same as his second form I knew how to counter him easily.i had issues with Maria and would say she is a top 3 boss in the game. Though I learned you if you stay close and go sideways you dodge about 80 percent of her moveset. Level design is cool to. Wondering what boss is in store for me next

You basically fight like 10-15 of those Living Failures, with about 2-3 of them on screen at the same time (except for when you start the fight with just one and others spawn as you're about to beat the first one).
Each of them have the exact same moves as each other, in the same way the Four Kings all share the same moves.
They have the same generic hand swipes as the big Celestial Emissary and they also have a homing magic attack.

I'm almost done with ng+ and about level 160. Should I access it now or would that make it far too easy? I'm thinking about finishing ng+ and tackle the dlc in ng++. I'm thoroughly enjoying the DLC, particularly the laboratory area. Shit is giving me those "oh my god everything is totally fucked" vibes that I got from the original game after killing Rom. Maria was a fun boss but way too easy to parry, otherwise her moveset is shit. The living failures were cool but had way too much HP which just made the fight a slog. Ludwig forced me to GIT GUD so that was a blast. Currently ragequit because of the well in the RE4 village that made me lose like, 100k souls because random second giant, because one giant with a fucking anchor isn't enough, right?

I'm happy you said that, it was exactly why I liked Grass in DeS.
In Dark Souls, there's no punishment for being bad, you just lose souls, something that can be easily obtained and isn't really all that valuable unless you lose extremely large amounts, you never are under the threat of being unable to make progress due to your lack of skill, as you can just keep trying without really getting better because you have infinite healing that never runs out. It's bad casual game design.
In Demons Souls, there were multiple consequences for being bad. You would lose half (Or 75%) of your HP, you would lose souls, and most importantly, you would constantly waste valuable healing items. These all force you to get better at the game and play correctly, if you don't want to run out of grass and farm for it, just get good and stop playing like shit. The game gives you more than enough as you play assuming you aren't constantly dying from stupid shit and wasting what you get, and if you do, that's your fault. The game rewards you when you kill enemies without getting hit by giving you grass for when you do make mistakes, but if you play sloppily and fuck up too much, you'll run out. The only flaw to this system is that you can carry more than ten pieces of grass at once, but Bloodborne almost fixed that issue.
Estus is absolute shit design, and one of the biggest flaws DaS has.
I forgot just how fucking great this game is. It's definitely one of my favourite games from the past few years, and that includes Dark Souls.
The DLC only makes it so much better.
I'm only Lv 39 with this character and am absolutely getting destroyed in the DLC, so just playing through the main game with Beasthunter Saif. It seems the most "samey" weapon out of the new ones, but it's the only SKL one I can use for now.
Two questions:
1. Why is the witch's village the absolute best area besides Cainhurst? And why is it way too short?
2. Will going SKL / BLT be smart with this expansion? Is there a lot to play around with then? My very first character was all VIT / STR and I only played with Kirkhammer.

Taking .3 seconds to slam a grass in your face that full heals you means you can literally fuck up constantly and still come out ahead. On top of that Boletaira literally SHIT GRASS ON YOU so farming wasn't even a thing.

In the first area there are three, and if you find the badge you can have the penetration rifle. 4 already, just at the first boss. I haven't beaten gatling gun batman so maybe there's actually more in the first area.

It's pretty difficult, but don't be afraid to summon NPCs, especially Valter. He'll wreck Ludwig, for example. Generally, I've had very good experiences with the hunter summons. Again, don't be afraid to ask for help.
The best thing about this expansion is that you can easily get a brand new character, beat amelia, and then just sprint through the expansion to get a shitload of awesome weapons really early in the game. They know exactly what they're doing, the lack of early game variety has been totally fixed.

I'd agree in terms of level design for sure. Haven't experienced bosses beyond Ludwig so I can't say, but I liked that fight a lot.
