Nine days before Xenoblade Chronicles X. What are some things to do to pass the time? I recommend watching GundamUnicornbecause it has a very, very similar OST (both are by Hiroyuki Sawano). As for aethestics, I don't actually think Xenoblade is very close to many mecha anime series. Xenoblade is much more focused on the alien world than it is on the mechs, especially in the case of Xenoblade (which doesn't have any mechs at all outside of the enemy robots). XBX is a little different. I would say, world-wise, Xenoblade is closer to .hack's game world and Phantasy Star than it is to Gundam or Zone of the Enders.
I remind people to not buy this censored garbage. Saving /v/ sixty dollars at a time.
Oh, you can of course just play Xenoblade Chronicles to pass the time, but that game took me weeks to beat, not 10 days. Plus, XBX is a standalone game, no need to play Xenoblade Chronicles outside of a few references (at least from what I hear anyway).

my plan is to finish it before this game comes out. I thought I'd have last weekend but I got into the Overwatch stress test so that's all I played.
I'll fire up dolphin and try to make it through starting tomorrow. I'm a few hours after getting the last party member, but I stopped playing last summer right before I found a job. This game is kind of daunting to jump back into.
I've fucked around a bit and I figured the battle system out again, it seems I had set myself up to start maining Melia before I stopped playing. The problem is everything else I've forgotten, I vaguely remember how the talents/gear slots shit worked but I have no idea how crafting and shit works anymore. I'll stumble through I guess.

After Central factory you have one town-ish area, a boss fight, a break segment, a return to Mechonis, another boss fight, another dungeon, a boss, a dungeon, a boss, and the final boss.

Xenoblade Chronicles is not pro religion. It's actually pretty much nothing, to be honest, and this is coming from someone who actually enjoys XC's story. It is by the wire a typical JRPG shonen, complete with young boy who's village is wrecked and goes on an adventure to eventually kill god. What makes it stand out is that it follows that formula while doing a good job of making you interested in the setting and the characters.
XCX can be seen as pro-religion because the church remains a strong central part among the residents of NLA, with even one of the party members you can pick up being a devoted christian girl.

Yes and no. One of the problem is yearly release. If you force a game to just be completed quickly you can't take any time to optimize which leads to major load screens. But also you can't fix every glitch in the game. So they try to post launch fix. The problem there is that who the fuck knows if that patch leads to other glitches later on.
Nintendo however makes sure the games they release never needs patches unless it's multiplayer. The annoying thing is that now quality doesn't matter anymore. FO4 is just as glitchy and problematic as any other Bethesda game. But does that hurt it in any way? Fuck no. Everyone is way too comfortable with post launch patches and long load times. We complain but outside of crying about it nothing really gets done about it.

Melee has quite a bit of elements that give it some merits over ranged combat as, one of the most obvious being the higher amount of topple combos and appendage damage, which isn't really what ranged oriented characters excel at.
Astral Crusaders, Masterminds, Galactic Knights and ranged-oriented Duelists / Full Metal Jaguars fulfill quite different purpose in that they either bring a lot of debuffs, auras and Ranged Support, or then just deal a metric ton of damage in comparison to their melee counterparts, to balance out the fact that they don't have as much access to topple (without doing cross-classing) and can't destroy appendages as easily.
I think Astral Crusader (and the Pre-Class, Partisan Eagle) has access to only one topple skill that's ranged, and that is exclusively vs. Humanoids.
All classes have different strengths and weaknesses, eventually they start to iron out as cross-classing will open up a much larger pool of arts to your character, but until then picking either melee or ranged, or a little mix of both is all up to your playstyle. You wont be losing out.

Technically, you can watch the movie trilogy version of Mobile Suit Gundam so you don't need to watch the whole series. That totals out at 6 hours. Zeta is the one you are supposed to watch the full series for, which is 50 half hour episodes, and CCA is just an hour and a half movie. They are all worth seeing though. If you ever ask someone what to watch to get into Gundam, those three will be at the top of any worth a shit list. It's a lot more involved than MMO combat since the cooldowns are shorter and the combat is heavily position-based, so you're constantly having to move around to maximise damage.
I don't know if X is going to do it, but XCX made the combat a lot more exciting by having characters constantly yell out encouragement to eachother and that kind of shit.
I actually hate MMOs but I really fucking liked Xenoblade. If I were you, I'd just emulate Xenoblade or softmod a wii if you've got one.

Problems people had so far
1. Switching party members is a pain since you have to actively find them. Most wish there was just a terminal at the base that lets you do it.
2. Gathering missions are annoying again.
3. If you start a affinity mission you have to play it out and it locks out other quests until you finish it.
4. And only a few had this complaint. Story missions are gated off unless prerequisites are done. Like exploring more of Mira or something. But personally that just mean they want you to explore more and more.

Just beat Xenoblade Chronicles.Phase 2 Zanza was quite a wall climb as my team may have been underleveled (79 Shulk, 80 Reyn and Fiora
Also, that dragon before you faceDicksonwas also very frustrating.
Ended up grinding hours on end to clear Prison Island because all the quests that opened up near the end were New Game + level quests for lvl 85+.
Great times though and enjoyed the conclusion.

Couldn't really cheese the encounter so I had to rely on the hope that his healing skill wasn't on CD.

There's lots of articles on it, forgive me I don't know a good one-stop source.
Here's what I got from it.
When you get on, you are put into a a pool with 31 other players who are online and interact kind of like Dark Souls. I think you can share the location of materials, and you can give drops you don't want to those other players and vice versa. You cannot choose which 31 people you are pooled with.
Then there's the 4-player online mode where you can join people to do specific content. I think you can do that with specified friends, but I'm unsure.
Also, people's avatars can spawn in your world, and you can use them as a party member.
