What if you're attacked from the other side of Sanctuary though? Also:

I restarted my character, so I haven't gotten to castle yet.

Besides, I usually build up Sanctuary because it's where several named NPCs as well as your pre-war home is. As the General of the Minutemen, wouldn't you bolster that naturally defensive spot into a bustling metropolis even if you take Castle as your main base? A Constantinople to your Rome?

>>317538091

top kek I love it
>>
Damn, that's some good shit you did there.

I don't know where to build my shit for the moment.
>>
>>317537895

Can you actually build something this good without modding?

I used the console to make the OP image, but only to clip some things into each other. Settlement size, resources, etc. aren't modded at all. Just be sure to scrap weapons from your inventory off the ground of your settlement rather than the benches so it tricks the settlement size limit into thinking you're taking stuff away.

The 'tcl' command is great for clipping those junk walls together so they don't have spaces all over the place. I use them for my outlying farm settlements which don't have nearly as much space as Sanctuary or Castle.
>>
>>317539669

>but only to clip some things into each other

So you have to use console commands after all. Fucking retarded, Bethesda.
>>
>>317537895

How many settlements can you have? I got like 7 or 8 places already and am running low on craft material to actually expand them beyond some walls, basic turrets and beds.
>>
>>317537895
I haven't played this yet, can you post more cool settlements?

I built this without console commands, as well as repaired the walls at Castle.

Let me tell you it's a pain in the ass to get it meticulously correct though, and the clipping just makes it easier and can even add some flair to your settlement. Concrete foundations will naturally clip through the bottom of the ground to even out your walls and building so stuff isn't floating in the air and inadvertently look like shit. Maybe you're not as anal about it as I am, but even foundations can be a little fussy in some spots.

Also remember: clipping doesn't help you when trying to clip into the world's geometry that you can't alter. You just have to suck it up and try your best to make things fit without looking like shit.
>>
>>
>>317540073
a lot, to get more materials just scrap everything in every settlement you don't need. it all amasses over time
>>
>>317540402
totally gonna rip off your power armor storage
>>
>>317540402

>>
>>317539669
>Just be sure to scrap weapons from your inventory off the ground of your settlement rather than the benches so it tricks the settlement size limit into thinking you're taking stuff away

Why? I don't understand
>>
Can you make settlements anywhere by just spawning a workbench?
>>
>>317540463
Not him but i have a question, is there a way to scrap junk en masse? or is transferring all the junk to the workbench enough?
>>
>>317540834
yes there is a mod on nexus for it
>>
>>317540834
you can but there are issues with enemy spawns and the cells not being marked to be persistent

mods will fix this eventually
>>
>>317538503
Can you get rid of the eggs on the ground at the Castle? They bug the shit outta me and I can't seem to delete them.
>>
>>317540834
No, there will probably be a mod for that at some point there. It's not like your hurting for settlements in this either. I'm at at-least 13 or so.
>>
>>317540998

Transferring junk is enough, the game will scrap the shit it needs when creating stuff.
>>
Has there been any evidence scrap benches aren't completely worthless?
>>
>>317541108
They disappear eventually. Just wait a few days or a week in game.
>>
>>317540817

So the settlement size meter in the top right of your UI when you build stuff will steadily increase. This is to make sure players aren't cutting Todd Howard's dick off when their frames go to shit when they tried to make a metropolis with a computer that barely meets minimum requirements. For those of us with decent computers, you can build far beyond the limit and still maintain good frames, but regardless the limit is universal for any player.

So if you want you can download a mod to manually get around the settlement size limitation, but if you're a console peasant you will have to trick the settlement size limit into thinking you're removing objects in your settlement. Say you want to add onto your settlement's wall but you can't build anymore --> go into inventory, drop all those shitty pipe pistols raiders piss out on a daily basis, then in Workshop mode scrap them while they're on the ground.

The size limit bar will steadily decrease as you scrap each weapon, thus allowing you to continue adding more stuff in your base. It's tedious but console players can't mod.
>>
I hate how you can't remove piles of rubble
I hate how you craft things in a ruined state, it makes no sense.
I hate how despite it being 200+ years post bombs, people would rather live in rusty tin shacks than sweep out the dust and rubble from a building that is still standing and live in those.
>>
>>317537895
how can i cheat to build the stuff for the teleporter, building shit is gay
>>
>>317541536

>>
How do you get more settlers? I've tricked out Sanctuary and have most categories above 45 yet I still only have 12 settlers including named NPCs?
>>
>>317541197
they pretty much are but after a point you get so much settlers you might as well assign one to it
>>
>>317541762
get more charisma, add more supply lines, more beds
>>
>>317541762
It's tied to your base charisma +11. I have 6 charisma and 17 unnamed settlers at the drivein movie place and can't put anyone else there
>>
>>317541197

Scrap benches passively create stuff like concrete/steel/nuclear material and puts it in your workshop.

As you might imagine, multiple settlements having these will add up if you supply line them.

>Settlement population is limited by the player character's Charisma. The Default Cap is 10, +1 for each point in charisma, meaning one can have a population cap of 20 (10+10). This can be further increased by wearing charisma boosting clothing and consumables. It is possible to get 38 settlers with a base Charisma of 10, the Charisma bobblehead, wearing Agatha's dress/Reginald's Suit as well as a Charisma-boosting hat and glasses, and consuming Grape Mentats, beer with the Party Boy level 2 perk, Day Tripper and X-Cell. Go to a settlement, wear the gear, pop the chems, and move settlers from the settlement to the desired settlement.

If it doesn't drain that makes me think it doesn't, but even if it just needs one to show you have them that's fine. I just don't want to be draining them twice as fast for the sake of looking cool, since really my companion is just there to hold shit and for the atmosphere.
>>
>>317550890
I think it needs one in it. If you leave armor sitting around with a core in it, NPCs can and often will hop into it and walk around/walk off with it. Usually only if combat starts, they'll jump in it to defend themselves and won't leave it until you force them to. Take the batteries out when you park your armor anons.

Caravan traders can use the power cores they carry to take your unpowered suits and run off too.

Anon, it's 210 years after the bombs fell. People have been living in some of the places for over 100 years continuously now.

Sure, it's not going to be spotless and the materials aren't going to be factory-fresh, but people would certainly have painted some shit and swept the floors every once in awhile. Every building you enter looks like the bombs dropped yesterday, when in reality it would take someone less than a day to clean the debris out of some of these places and maybe a sweeping a week to keep it clean. When you're living your entire life in a shithole you do what you can do make it less shitty, especially when it's so easy.

Sure, the places that got hit by multiple nukes might have no normal plant life, but places like the Commonwealth which evidently only received the one nuke should have some vibrant plant life taking over everything. Nuclear winter wouldn't cause all future plants to be weirdly brown and leafless. A post-apocalyptic setting like in the last of us would be cool for a fallout game, non-radioactive food would still be hard to come by and all the normal rules would apply but the city would be overgrown with nature just like it would in reality.

without (1+1) it's just 2 + 0 = 4, which is incorrect

No, he didn't. You are just too retarded to comprehend English.

He said at E3 that only Xbone would get mod support, and that would take a while to go into the game, because they have to okay any mod that'll go up on their site.

Depends on the town, but most of them were built onto pre-war buildings like: >>317557793

Regardless that's not what I mean. What I mean is, by looking at it you can tell some some random bozo put that town together. The layout and design doesn't make sense, it's just "BIGGER MEANS BETTER" design, crudely thrown together.
It's like when you see a location or housing mod on the Nexus, and they always stand out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of the wasteland because of how amateur the design is.

Like the fucking side quests in New Vegas.

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Flags_of_Our_Foul-Ups

I randomly picked this and it's a good example. It's another NCR quest but has an actual story behind it, has you deal with several characters that all have their own personalities in which you choose who's advice you take. The result ends up affecting the ending, too

Even unmarked, insignifcant quests that have no impact on the story like dragging the Rangers corpse out of a Friend trap so he can have a proper funeral is better than the majority of content in 4
>>
>>317560281
Plus the covenant investigation, the railroad and bos dilemma late game, many of the Institute missions both before and after the main ending, the ability to pay off bounties instead of rescuing kidnapped settlers to mention a few.

The roleplay in Fallout was always kinda lacking in my opinion.
You walk about in combat gear with a huge minigun on your back, and random hobos will still attack you as if it's no big deal.

There's also a lot of times when NPCs will call you green or treat you like a rookie or a kid, no matter the age of your character or the quality of your achievements. I kinda need to ignore this kinda shit and go with a headcanon most of the time.

Do we know exactly what kind of nukes nuked North America? Perhaps they were some kind of nuke dirtybomb that has contaminated the soil with something other than just radiation.

I mean, I dont mind suspending my disbelief, but there could have been something else in those bombs.

Not sure what you expected, the pipboy was presented the same way it came out as. It's still pretty cool in my opinion, but then again, I knew what I was buying.

As for mod support, like >>317558804 said, he announced mod support for XboxOne at the Xbox conference at E3.
Based on what you said, and on how you perceived that info then went and bought it on PS4, you can only blame yourself. (or for buying any Bethesda game on a Playstation for that matter)

That said however, it was sometime afterward mentioned that mod support will also be coming to the PS4. However the process of doing so will come even much later than it will on the XboxOne. (not even due to "timed exclusivity" but rather the time working around shit with the company/console itself, which Todd mentioned was already mostly taken care of with Microsoft and the Xbox)

So the GECK is scheduled for PC in January, to which mods will get created. Then the process for the XboxOne version will follow shortly after which includes them going through what mods can be supported (meaning mostly likely no nude mods or anything that'd make the console shit itself)
THEN much later (as they estimated) support will come to the PS4. So assuming you still care by then, that's something to look forward for.

I don't know, the final mission for the Institute where you attack the airport felt pretty big and hectic.

Though I think that was more because laser fights at night just look a lot more impressive by their very nature. The synths constantly teleporting in around me and birds getting shot down and blowing up probably also helped the mood.
>>
>>317561304
It'd be really difficult with the state building is in right now. Until a right and proper mod comes in and thoroughly overhauls the clipping allowances and we get a far more robust set of tiles to place, like half-sized walls and ceilings for a start, this shit isn't gonna happen.

naw man that fucking place actually became a god damn near paradise thanks to the geck and the knowledge of the vault dwellers saved from the oil rig

Nukes in FallOut have always been assumed to be much cruder, dirtier bombs than in real life, and Fallout 3 trues to demonstrate that DC and the East Coast got carpet bombed far worse than the WC,
Though in Fallout 4, it seems the Commonwealth got hit by only a handful of nukes

Yeah, these could have easily been bombs with a 2 stage payload. We can assume from the eames era of the rest of the world, they were fusion boosted fission bombs like we were using in tests in the early 60's. Those were multi stage bombs with 2 payloads, one with a fusion reaction that kick started the second explosion which is a fission reaction. Its not too hard to believe a third stage could be implemented with a disease or bacteria to kill off the weakened populous that would be left after such an explosion.

The way the work is that anything placed in workbench of any linked settlement will be shared in the building mode.

The items will not be shared in non building mode, so you won't see all your items if you hit R on the crafting station, but when you go to build, you will see all of them.

Including food, which you should be placing in your workbenches if you need to.

Otherwise your settlers will automatically put excess food into the workbench, assuming they have excess food at their settlement.

Throwing biological weapons into the mix kind of dilutes what FallOut is about.
Which a lot of people seem to have forgotten - it's about how people in the 50s saw the apocalypse. It isn't meant to be realistic. AT. ALL.
Hell, a lot of FO2's design choices were based on Mad Max/ABahD which were even farther from the concept than anything FO3 had, canon or not.
>>
>>317561681
>They simply can't make a new setting.
>>317561681

I wholeheartedly disagree.
Its not that they cant do it.
Its just that they don't fucking care since for many working there its just pay check with no passion for what they are working on and for the higher ups there is no need to invest to much into it since people will still buy it on mass.

And even hell with fallout its even more evident about them not giving a fuck about even the ip itself with their wanton ways of just adding shit that shouldn't be there or doesn't mesh well with what has already established just cause they thinks rad or something.

Like for fuck sake it is now 2 times in a fucking row that they have completely misrepresented the goddamned brotherhood of steel. They just don't care about fallout at all and are just using it so they can get into some of that shooter money.

Its so damn disheartening to see something i really enjoyed tarnished like that and hell i would be less so if they at least fucking made fallout 3 a damn reboot instead, though they never would since it would mean that they would have nothing to rip off to present as new to those who will never touch the original isometric games.

Like how the goddamned institute is just a shitty rip off of the master and his army with the whole forced evolution for the betterment of humans and what not. Like god damn it must feel so embarrassing to have your main plot completely out classed buy the exact thing your trying so desperately to rip off

I know. Im not saying its what happened in the lore AT ALL. It didnt happen in fallout lore. They probably were 2 stage fusion/fission bombs, but the anon said it wasnt realistic that plant life couldnt grow back. I just said one reason might be non-nuclear.
Obviously, the lore is to have us believe that this is the lasting effect of nukes. But in reality, plant life would be back by now, and probably thriving better than ever. Unless a disease took hold or a contaminant entered the soil.

>Like for fuck sake it is now 2 times in a fucking row that they have completely misrepresented the goddamned brotherhood of steel.
You do realize that FO3's BoS being Lawful Stupid was an explained, plot-centric point, right? And that Maxson's ideology in Fallout 4 is a realistic combination of his time under Lyons, combined with his original teachings at the WC chapter.
Fallout 4 has done a lot to actually expand upon the Brotherhood. Honestly, what do you want them to do, just sit in a home in the ground and be dicks? Having them do absolutely nothing is somehow better writing?
Even NV points out that the WC branch has sat on its ass so long its stagnated and is dying out.

You can't just take anything that has changed or been expanded upon and say it's shit because its not what Fallout 1 and 2 did.

>>
>>317562265

How did they misrepresent the BoS?

The BoS in Fallout 3 is outright stated by its members and the Outcasts to not be towing the party line and a bit of a breakaway faction.

The BoS in Fallout 4 has turned more into a hybrid of the more traditional BoS ideology combined with that for the one from F3. That is they decided to expand their definition of collecting technology to protect it from being abused to also destroying the "abominations" created by science that would destroy humanity, like Super Mutants.
>>
>>317562526
Agreed. I've spent my time in here shitting on Bethesda's retarded city building but I do feel they've done the BoS right the way they went about them here. Its one of the few areas where they show they're capable of learning and fixing their shit.

And yeah the fo3 was explained sure but it was still a stupid explanation made to conveniently fit into the plot. Like god damn he brotherhood are a bunch of elitist assholes who tasked them selfs with. As fucking curators of technology whens the last fucking time they were shown ,instead of just trying to hoard shit, but helping others out and reintroducing tech to people or communities so they could help themselves and grow.

there is so much shit with them but its always fucking black or white with bethesda its like they just cant into subtleties or just think that people like you are to fucking stupid to understand anything more complex than good or bad

At least by using foundation blocks we can build the wall.

>>317562972
Build a square of foundation blocks like a gulag but not very wide
Put a settlement bell in there
build flamethrower traps
Hook them to a cycled power transmiting post and then connect that to a generator after ringing the bell leaving and walling in your exit point.

Forever oven

As someone who loves the original games your the type of fan I fucking hate. You're autistic, no joke like actually fucking autistic. The idea that a faction cannot change in anyway shape or form is ridiculous. You and the people like you are always the worst parts of any fanbase. You're akin to Chris chan going insane over sonics arm color.

Characters and factions evolve over time. The ECBOS are the way they are because of the challenges of the east coast. Cut off from the brotherhood. Surrounded by super mutants in a heavily irradiated wasteland. Seeing the absolute hell that was the Pitt. It forced the elder to reassess not only his mission but his values. For what good does the brotherhood protect humanity if humanity is extinguished.

It's fucking world building. I can sit here for hours and go one about my problems with Beth and fallout 3 but the ECBOS are explained, and explained in a good way. The choices they've made make sense from an in game perspective and to really get this upset over a splinter faction that faced the realities of the situation they're in. You're just fucking ridiculous you're like a bad parody of /v/ in some Reddit tier comic.

ok like what the fuck is up with that?

Sure in 1 the brother was against super mutants cause of the master leading them to raid towns and villages for more people to convert into more super mutants and veiwed them all as bad due to what the masters influence and what not

and with ghouls well some do go feral and attack all other than other ghouls so they took violent action against them for that.

So the brother hood who has got alot of pretty advanced tech must have quite a large database to at least teach themselves quite a bit so they arent dumb.

So i am having a hard time making sense of this my self, but how is an extremely well organized and well led group to have achieved and acquired what they have also have and apparently extremely shitty and bad leadership at the same time who apparently don't give a fuck about any of the founding principals of said group?

Like am i missing something as to why they smart and capable yet at the same time super dumb and incompetent.

man fuck what i missing here to help me fucking understand. They only thing i can think of right now is the their current leader is just a shitty and mean person only for no reason other than the plot needed to be that way. There is no precedent of it before so what must have happened for them to be that way then.

What exactly are you looking for? There's the jumpsuits and the field armor. Other than that they wear power armor. The best way to collect BoS armor without killing BoS is to go to Quincy and areas around it and wait for the BoS to fight the Gunners and Super Mutants in the area. At least a handful of BoS will die if not all of them. Then you can just run up, grab their shit, and take off.

The world is very bland for a fallout game, NV is leagues better and even 3 had better world building.

It all seems rushed and not thought out, the characters have no real depth and the options for the end are all just so bland.

Like I'll get to a new place and explore and admire it and want to know what cool shit they put in there, but often it's nothing or just a few lines of text on an old monitor.

>>317560925
Everyone keeps blaming the shitty questing in 4 on "radiant quests", but what the fuck else quests are there? Because I sure as shit haven't seen any.
hell, the whole introductory quest where you meet Preston Garvey is literally just "Kill the raiders in this town" with no alternate solutions of any sort. And you HAVE to take the quest, even if you choose the "no" dialog option, the game still prompts you to get the fusion cell and use the Power Armor. This game rail-roads you even more than Fallout 3 for fuck sake.

One of the TUTORIAL quests in New Vegas with invading Powder Gangers had a heap of different ways to do everything. You could side with the Powder gangers.
And if you picked to help Goodsrpings, there were a bunch of skill checks with various townspeople to get their help.
>>
>>317553008
Because that would require Bethesda playing and understanding the original Fallout games.

I'm still convinced they just watched the intro video to FO2 and made an entire franchise over what they thought the rest of the game would be like.

I just wish I could put some Gen 1s and robots to work in the farms.

Nice post-war-pre-war house you pleb.

I want to build myself a comfy tower and have plebs work for me underneath it. Where's the best place to build it?

I'm already using the gas station so that's a no.

I'm enjoying trying to get 10+ settlers in most of mine. I have about 8 settlements in full working order with the supplies lines and everything. Feels good.

Obviously drive-in if you don't want food since I don't think you can grow that there. You'll have to make a plantation totally not at the given to you plantation of tenpines.

OP here. Got >>317544878 this and took your advice. The only thing Trump would have against this is that I didn't build it even higher. Now all the raiders should theoretically be funneled into the bridge entrance.

It's not an RPG anymore. That has been stated. They said they removed most RPG elements.

So without stepping on anybody's toes, what seems to be the general consensus with the "style" of the new Fallout games like 3/NV/4, like regarding diversity of the different populated settlements and such?

Because for me, as someone who hasn't played FO 1/2, based on those screens the towns look pretty "copy-pasted" without much imagination (obv not counting stuff like the history of those places and or the characters living there).

I'm just curious because the shit-flinging is always real when fans of the older Fallout games and the newer ones clash.
